25.01.2022 Planning on doing a bit of gardening this spring? Grass and pollen allergies can affect those who suffer from them when it comes to tending the garden, but th...ere are lots of ways to reduce your exposure and keep healthy this Spring! It is wise to avoid mowing the grass if you can, and stay inside when it is being mown. If you are the only one who can mow it, remember to wear a mask and take a non-drowsy antihistamine before you start that mower. Gardening in the mid-afternoon is also a wiser idea than gardening in the morning, as pollen counts can be higher as the morning dew evaporates. Choosing the right plants for your garden can help too. Plant flowers and trees that are insect-pollinated, rather than wind-pollinated to reduce the amount of pollen blowing around in your yard. If you need help with allergy symptom relief and prevention, have a chat to our Pharmacists today. See more

23.01.2022 Don't forget your sunscreen! You might be thinking, it's not hot enough for that yet is it? Remember that sunburn is not about heat, but UV rays. Here in Aust...ralia, the UV is a lot stronger than in other places around the world, and you can even get burnt on cloudy days. If you are going outside, even in your own yard, check the UV rating on the weather websites and protect your skin appropriately. If you are not sure where your sunscreen is, or which kind of sunscreen will be best for you and your family, come in and have a chat with our team today! See more

23.01.2022 No new cases for our region again today, but Queensland has recorded 2 cases of coronavirus (COVID-19). There are currently 28 active cases of COVID-19 in Queen...sland. Each day, total cases may not equal active plus recovered plus deaths, as information for some cases is still pending and will be updated in due course. Detailed information about COVID-19 cases in Queensland including maps of cases by HHS and LGA, likely source of infection, age and gender, testing completed, and self-quarantine notices issued, can be found here: www.health.qld.gov.au/covid-data

22.01.2022 The Greater Brisbane region will transition to eased restrictions at 6pm today, following a weekend lockdown enacted to contain any potential spread of the UK v...ariant of COVID-19. The restrictions are similar to Stage 3 restrictions Queensland saw in July last year and will be in place at least until 1am 22 January. You will be allowed to leave your home for any purpose. The following gathering restrictions are in place to keep you and others safe: You must carry a mask at all times. Masks must be worn in indoor places including shopping centres and supermarkets, gyms, places of worship, libraries, public transport, and taxis and rideshare vehicles. Masks must be worn in workplaces if social distancing isn’t possible and it’s safe to do so. You don’t need to wear a mask in private vehicles, while outdoors at a safe distance from other people or if you’re doing strenuous exercise. Businesses and venues can have one person per 4m indoors and one person per 2m outdoors. Smaller venues up to 200m can have one person per 2m up to a maximum of 50. You must be seated to eat and drink, and no dancing is allowed except at weddings. Gatherings are restricted to 20 people in homes and public spaces. Weddings and funerals can have up to 100 people, and dancing is allowed at weddings without restrictions. Indoor concert venues and theatres can operate at 50% capacity or one person per four square metres, whichever is greater. Outdoor stadiums can operate at 50% capacity with COVID-safe plans. Restrictions on visits to hospitals, aged care, disability accommodation and prisons will remain. Visit here for more information https://www.qld.gov.au//easing-greater-brisbane-restrictio Over the past 72 hours, people in the Greater Brisbane area have followed lockdown and movement advice strongly. It is because of such a strong response from the community that we are able to ease these restrictions, but we aren't out of the woods yet. Thank you all for coming together - as you have before - and playing your part. Let's keep up the amazing work. Remember to always: Practise good hygiene Socially distance Exercise common sense Stay at home when unwell

20.01.2022 Anyone else excited for passionfruit season? Not only are these little fruits delicious, they have some great health benefits too! They are high in vitamin C,... fibre, and antioxidants to keep your body feeling great through the whole season. A great tip for eating them recommended by Aussie Passionfruit Growers is instead of cutting a passionfruit in half, just cut the top off and eat it like you would a boiled egg. This stops all the delicious juice from running out when sliced open, yum! See more
20.01.2022 There are three ways to find out how much pain a child has: what a child says, what a child is doing, how the child's body is reacting... To find out about these, we must ask and look. Ask: the child (using their own words or using a pain scale to show the pain they have the nurse or doctor who knows the child best Look at: what the child is doing (body posture, facial expression) how the child's body is reacting (change in heart rate, blood pressure) how the child's behaviour has changed (are they more quiet / irritated) If you want to know what is the best pain management options available for your child, please speak to our Pharmacist in store today.

20.01.2022 Even if you usually do not suffer from asthma or allergies, thunderstorm asthma is something you should know about. Thunderstorm asthma is triggered by a combin...ation of grass pollen in the air and certain thunderstorm conditions. It can occur when pollen grains are drawn up into the clouds as a thunderstorm forms. The pollen grains absorb water, swell and burst open. Particles containing pollen allergens are released and are so small that they can be breathed into the lungs. The weather conditions can push these tiny particles down to ground level then along the ground in the winds that come ahead of the rain. Those who do suffer from asthma and hay fever are more at risk from serious complications due to thunderstorm asthma, so if this is you, come in and see our Pharmacist to make sure you have a plan ready.

16.01.2022 The labels on your medicines contain a lot of information. It's name, the dose, and something you might not look at as often - the expiry date. If the medicine ...is not something you use often, or stopped using, you may find it is out of date. Routinely going through your first aid kit and medine cabinet and checking the expiry dates on your medicines is an important step to reducing possible accidents from someone taking or using something they shouldn't. If you find something that is past it's date, set it aside somewhere safe and bring it into the Pharmacy as soon as you can for proper disposal. See more
16.01.2022 When it comes to the dates on your foods, do you know the difference between Best Before and Use By? If you have a product that is "best before" a certain date,... it is still okay to eat for a while after this date, but it may have lost a bit of quality by this point. If your product has "use by" on it though, these foods are a little bit more serious. if sold and consumed after this date, they could pose a health and safety risk to the person consuming them, so it is best to follow the label and dispose of these if they pass this date. Some products may have a "use by" date that is well into the future when you buy it, but keep an eye on "once opened" warnings too. Some of these products stay well preserved in their packaging, but once they are opened may only last a few days or weeks. Remember, foodborne illness can be serious, so if you are not sure about a food, trust your gut and dispose of it safely! See more

15.01.2022 The more the sun comes out, the more our striped yellow friends want to be out too! Most people will experience a bee sting at some point in their life, so kn...owing how to remove one properly is important. While your initial reflex might be to pinch it out, this can lead to more venom ending up in your system. Instead, remove the stinger by sliding your fingernail, or something with a firm edge like a bank card across it to slide it out of the skin. Wash the area, and apply ice to reduce swelling. If the person who has been stung is allergic to bee stings, immobilise the person, apply pressure to the site, and seek immediate medical help. We have a lot of bugs and critters that can bite and sting us here in Australia, so knowing how to appropriately deal with each one is important for everyone! You never know when someone will need your help. For more information on other bites and stings, you can visit: https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au//bites-and-stings-firs
15.01.2022 I had spent an hour in the bank with my dad, as he had to transfer some money. I couldn't resist myself & asked... ''Dad, why don't we activate your internet ba...nking?'' ''Why would I do that?'' He asked... ''Well, then you wont have to spend an hour here for things like transfer. You can even do your shopping online. Everything will be so easy!'' I was so excited about initiating him into the world of Net banking. He asked ''If I do that, I wont have to step out of the house? ''Yes, yes''! I said. I told him how even grocery can be delivered at door now and how amazon delivers everything! His answer left me tongue-tied. He said ''Since I entered this bank today, I have met four of my friends, I have chatted a while with the staff who know me very well by now. You know I am alone...this is the company that I need. I like to get ready and come to the bank. I have enough time, it is the physical touch that I crave. Two years back I got sick, The store owner from whom I buy fruits, came to see me and sat by my bedside and cried. When your Mom fell down few days back while on her morning walk. Our local grocer saw her and immediately got his car to rush her home as he knows where I live. Would I have that 'human' touch if everything became online? Why would I want everything delivered to me and force me to interact with just my computer? I like to know the person that I'm dealing with and not just the 'seller'. It creates bonds of Relationships. Does Amazon deliver all this as well?''' Technology isn't life.. Spend time with people .. Not with devices.

14.01.2022 It's time to talk about UV! UV stands for Ultraviolet, a type of radiation that is produced by the sun, and some artificial sources. Unlike light or heat, yo...u cannot feel UV radiation, which is what makes it so deadly. UV can penetrate clouds too, so your skin can sustain a lot of damage from UV before you even notice. UV is measured in strength through the UV index, which can be found on weather forecast websites like http://www.bom.gov.au/uv/ Protection is recommended (sunscreen, hats, glasses, covering clothing, you know the drill!) when the UV index reaches 3 or higher, so keeping an eye on the UV throughout the day will let you know how strong it is, and when to stay inside or in the shade and protect your skin. Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 50+ can help provide you with extra protection when you are out and about in the open. If you are not sure what kind of sunscreen will be best for you, or you have sensitive skin, have a chat to our team and we can help you find a sunscreen solution! See more

05.01.2022 There is no question that drinking caffienated drinks well into the afternoon and evening can disrupt your sleep, but what SHOULD you drink before bed? While ...a popular solution for some to get to sleep is a whiskey nightcap, this is not advisable at all. While alcohol can make you fall asleep fast, it contributes to poor sleep throughout the night, disrupting REM sleep, interrupting your circadian rhythm, and causing havoc when your brain and body need to be resting. The Sleep Council in the UK have provided some great suggestions for alternatives to the nightcap. Warm milk is effective in stress reduction, and even the psycological link we have between a glass of milk and bedtime may even be responsible for our more restful sleep after drinking one. Herbal teas like chamomile and peppermint also have properties that can relax the body and soothe you off to sleep.
