20.01.2022 @abcnews_au "It is very, very disappointing we werent listened to earlier because we actually predicted exactly whats happening now. Former NSW Fire and Rescue Commissioner Greg Mullins, whos now a member of the Climate Council and Emergency Leaders for Climate Action, spoke to the ABC this morning. He says hes been trying to get an appointment with the Prime Minister since April, with no luck.... Measures could have been taken months ago to make the firefighters more effective and to make the community safer, Mr Mullins said. Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack are among those who have criticised people linking the deadly bushfires to climate change. Emergency Minister David Littleproud said in a statement: "While my office has not received a formal request to meet with Mr Mullins to date, I have asked my staff to reach out to Mr Mullins to initiate a meeting in the near future." #Australia #news #ABCNews #bushfire #bushfires #fires #emergency #qldfires #nswfires #climatechange #climate #climateaction See more

18.01.2022 @viceasia - Animated films are effective vehicles to put a spotlight on important issues, while online streaming platforms are great in sharing them to a wider audience. The latest to use both these avenues is the VICE Studios film Sitara: Let Girls Dream, which will soon stream on Netflix. The streaming giant announced on Friday, Oct. 25 that it will release the animated short. VICE Studios financed and produced the film created by an all-female team. Sitara: Let Girls Drea...m is directed by two-time Oscar winner and three-time Emmy winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. It tells the story of Pari, a 14-year-old girl who aspires to be a pilot while growing up in a society that doesnt allow her to dream, because she is expected to get married at an early age. 17.01.2022 The Sydney Opera House honored Australian firefighters Saturday with a moving tribute, illuminating its sails with images of the crews battling the bushfires across the country. "We want to send a message of hope and strength, and importantly to thank the emergency services and volunteers for their incredible efforts and courage," the opera house said on Twitter. At least 27 people, including volunteer firefighters, have died since the fire season began in late July. Posted @withregram @cnn (: Saeed Khan/AFP/Getty Images)

15.01.2022 Yes, climate change will affect us, but we wont be the first to feel the full repercussions of global warming. We face drought and bush fires however, many people are losing their homes to rising tides. It is predicted by 2050, there will be more than 1.5 billion climate migrants and we have no idea where they will go. #ClimateChange #RisingOceans #WorldVision

13.01.2022 @cnn - Veneto regional council, located on Venices Grand Canal, was flooded for the first time in its history on Tuesday night, immediately after it rejected measures to combat climate change. "Ironically, the chamber was flooded two minutes after the majority League, Brothers of Italy, and Forza Italia parties rejected our amendments to tackle climate change," Democratic Party councilor Andrea Zanoni said in a long Facebook post. Among the rejected amendments were measures to fund renewable sources, to replace diesel buses with "more efficient and less polluting ones," to scrap polluting stoves, and reduce the impact of plastics, Zanoni said. The historic Italian city has been brought to its knees this week by the worst flooding in more than 50 years. (: Andrea Zanoni)

12.01.2022 @cnn Follow @cnnclimate Wrthersee Football Stadium in Austria has been transformed into a lush forest in an effort to raise awareness of deforestation and #climatechange. The pitch is now lined with about 300 trees, some weighing up to six tons each. The aim is to challenge our perception of nature and question its future and symbolizes the notion that nature may someday only be found in specially designated spaces, says Klaus Littmann, the Swiss artist behind the project. 09.01.2022 @cnn - Australias top women soccer players will now earn the same as their male counterparts after a landmark deal aimed to close the gender pay gap between the countrys national teams. Previously, the players on the mens Caltex Socceroos were paid more to play and earned a greater share of commercial revenue. Now, the womens Westfield Matildas will receive an equal share of all revenues earned and will also be allowed to travel business class for international travel, as the men do. "Football is the game for everyone, and this new [Collective Bargaining Agreement] is another huge step toward ensuring that we live the values of equality, inclusivity and opportunity," the Football Federation Australia chairman said. 09.01.2022 @abcnews_au Australia in the past 72 hours. Right now, six states are facing fire weather warnings as hot and windy conditions scorch Australia. Victorian authorities have declared a code red fire danger for parts of the state for the first time since 2010, coupled with a moderate thunderstorm asthma warning for all but one district statewide. A total fire ban is in place for the entire state, with damaging winds and high pollen levels forecast along with temperatures a...pproaching 40 degrees Celsius. South Australian firefighters are working to contain blazes across the state after a catastrophic fire danger rating yesterday. Severe fire danger warnings were in place for three regions this morning, with a bushfire burning through 4,500 hectares on the Lower Yorke Peninsula as it headed towards Edithburgh. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has fire weather warnings in place for Western Australia, South Australia, NSW, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania. Sydney and Adelaide are blanketed under thick smoke haze, with experts urging children, the elderly and people with heart or lung disease to avoid exercising outdoors. 06.01.2022 Before World Visions initiative to address indoor pollution and #climatechange, the use of traditional, inefficient wood burning stoves in developing countries caused three immediate problem. 1. Cut trees surrounding vegetation is the first source of firewood, often in areas of drought. ... 2. Education children collect firewood, impacting on their school attendance. 3. Fatalities smoke from the stoves can be dangerous for children and contributes to carbon emissions. To address this, World Vision India introduced fuel-efficient stoves to 1200 households in the Lalitpur District. They have seen an improvement in air quality test results, as well as less firewood required for the new stoves. Similar initiatives have occurred in Ethopia, Kenya, Peru and Myanmar.

01.01.2022 @abcnews_au - The ACT now pays for enough renewable energy generation to account for its entire electricity use The last stage of SAs Hornsdale wind farm comes online today. With that, the ACT more than 1,000 kilometres away will "officially" be powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity. The ACT funds five different wind farms around Australia, which feed energy into the national grid to make up for what Canberra consumes.... For every watt of power the ACT consumes, it pays one back through its renewable investments.
