25.01.2022 Santa can't wait to see everyone at the Canberra's 76th Carols by Candlelight at Stage 88!

25.01.2022 Australis and Centauri choirs smashing out one of the new songs they learned at camp this weekend: "Believer" by Imagine Dragons. Sounding fabulous!

25.01.2022 . How his parents let him down. Made him miss out on music. You might relate.... He said something like: He wanted to learn music as a kid. He really wanted music lessons. But for some reason his parents only got lessons for his two brothers. Not him. And the worst part... He had to watch his brothers squander lessons they didn’t want... lessons he wishes HE had... Only to watch them drop music for other things. (Sport I think.) While this poor guy... Had to miss out completely. Can you imagine being in his shoes? Heartbreaking. Decades later... He still remembers what his parents did. And damn. I mean... Can you imagine dragging that memory around for years on end? It’s not a happy one. If you missed out on music as a kid, chances are you’ve felt that pain. But there’s a happy twist in this guy’s story. Now that he’s a parent himself... This dad gave his own daughter the chance to sing in the Woden Valley Youth Choir. Chances he never got. And now he gets to see his daughter have a blast singing every week. I think that’s fantastic. But I also find that story daunting. You might too. You see... His parents had a huge impact on his life. Something many of you parents appreciate (both as a parent yourself, and with your own mum and dad). If his mum and dad had given him music lessons as a kid... If they planted that seed early... He could have cultivated and bloomed his skill over decades. But instead his parents never gave him that chance. It’s incredible when you think of how much influence parents can have. Something which might be intimidating if you’re a parent yourself. If you’re a parent with a teenage son whose voice is changing... And you worry if your son will miss out on singing in his life... Then you might want to check out this letter. It’s about an upcoming chance for him to sing and make new friends if he’s interested. It’s a once-a-year opportunity. And it’s coming soon The earlier you catch it the better. Click here to see it: https://docs.google.com//1mhFnxFhmmgvdc9YpUxrdUAUOklv1g2w/ Or email our friendly neighbourhood Brenda at [email protected] if you want to learn more. Any of your friends have a teen son who might want to sing? Please share this post with them. You can help give their son a blast singing. 11.01.2022 *** ?*** Fear can be contagious. But did you know fearlessness can be too?... Sometimes all your son needs is to meet someone fearless in his passion for choir music. To help your son brim with boldness himself. Incidentally... This mum recently called the Conductor of Centauri Voices ‘a fearless leader’ and recommends this choir for young men who love to sing. Think your son might be interested? Or do you know any parents that do? If you know any... please forward them this letter: https://docs.google.com//1mhFnxFhmmgvdc9YpUxrdUAUOkl/edit Or get them to email [email protected] for more details. 08.01.2022 We received a lovely card from Anglicare NSW South, NSW West & ACT, thanking us for choosing them as the recipient charity for Canberra Carols by Candlelight in 2019. Our annual Carols by Candlelight is a fabulous way to come together as a community and to also support some amazing local charities. We've started planning the 2020 event already! As you can imagine, it takes a lot of hard work by our parent community. We look forward to the great support of the National Capital Authority and working with Canberra City Band again. The 76th Canberra Carols by Candlelight will be the best yet

04.01.2022 ***’ *** I came across this story recently: , ’ , 6 .... Can you believe some parents actually say that? And tear down their kid’s confidence? How cruel. No wonder that same teacher hears from those boys: No way! I’m not joining chorus. Or I can’t sing. Please don’t make me. Imagine living your whole life believing you have a horrible voice. That you can’t sing. At a time when your voice have been supported instead. It’s worse when you’re a male at that awkward age where your voice ‘breaks’. Where your growth spurts have made your vocal cords a bit clumsy. But with the right encouragement... It’s possible for guys like that to enjoy singing more than ever. If you’re the parent of a son like that... I’ve got great news for you. The same teacher also says: , . I love how this shows yet another way proactive parents like you can make huge positive impacts on your kid’s life. And if you want your son to spend the rest of his days singing... Then here’s an opportunity you might want to grab for him. One that could build his courage, make him new friends, and get him singing with a smile. It’s a once-a-year opportunity for your son. And it’s coming up soon The earlier you catch it the better. You’ll see why. 04.01.2022 That's one way to wake them up! WVYC Senior Camp in full swing

04.01.2022 ? Last year a 9-year-old girl sued a boys’ choir. And not just any choir...... A 554-year-old Berlin Boys’ Cathedral Choir. The girlor more likely her parentswanted her to be the first girl accepted in the choirs half-millennium history. But the choir powers-that-be said ‘No’. She didn’t have what they were looking for. (The choir also thought the girl’s parents would be difficult to work with. I wonder why...) So the girl tried surf into the boys’ choir riding on a lawsuit. Dramatic stuff. Whatever your opinion on all this... There’s a powerful lesson here. One that affects your teen son if you have one. And that is... We love to be included. Especially in the awkward age of adolescence. But if we’re cast out on the other hand... Did you know that brain scans show rejection activates the same brain areas as physical pain? So being shoved away from a group literally HURTS your son. It can feel like life or death. For example Imagine you’re a choir boy and your voice begins to change. If your beloved choir is only for treble high-pitched voices... They have no choice but to let you go. Even if they kick you out as nicely as possible... you can still feel cast out. Maybe your own son has already gone through that. And he wants to be in a choir again. Despite his voice change. Or maybe he just wants a group of mates he can slap on the back and sing with. If so I might have the perfect place for your son. There’s a once-a-year opportunity coming up for him. Where he can fit in with guys just like him, sing with them, and hang out with his new-found friends. It’s coming up soon The earlier you catch it the better. If you think your son might be keen... See this letter for more: https://docs.google.com//1mhFnxFhmmgvdc9YpUxrdUAUOklv1g2w/ Or email our friendly neighbourhood Brenda at [email protected] if you want to learn more. Any of your friends have a teen son who might want to sing? Please share this post with them. You can help give their son a blast singing. Lucus Lawsuits are a terrible way to make friends Allerton ***Conductor of Centauri Voices*** [A choir for young men with maturing voices]

04.01.2022 It was fabulous to partner with DOJO Bread at Braidwood in our most recent fundraiser. Through purchasing 50 packets of hot cross buns, the Woden Valley Youth Choir members supported a local bakery doing it tough, and raised a few dollars towards our own fundraising goals. We look forward to making a trip to Braidwood in the future, taking our wallets and voices for a much needed outing. Yum!

04.01.2022 ***. *** Do you know any parents whose teen son might want to sing? We have a 46.5 hour camp for guys like that....
