24.01.2022 Frascas Belting, Steel & Engineering is leading the way in inclusive employment and reaping the benefits, urging other local businesses to follow suit by offering people with disability meaningful employment. Ethan Fitzgerald has employed five Workways clients since April 2019, with three of them gaining stable employment opportunities, and he says that it has been a positive experience. I dont look at the disability of a job seeker, more at what they can offer our busines...s, what skills they have and how engaged they are in working. Read more of their inspiring story on our website: https://workways.com.au//wangaratta-employer-steeling-loc/

24.01.2022 Weve had the privilege to support Sun Bus Townsville with their recruitment needs, as they work toward a more diversified workforce that better reflects community needs including more indigenous and female employees. Sun Bus recently hired Fowsiyo as a casual bus cleaner, providing her with all of the training required and a flexible work environment that suits her needs as a mother of young children. We will be recruiting shortly for new bus drivers.... Thank you to Matthew from Sun Bus who has been fantastic to work with, and made sure that the process from interview to employment was quick so that our clients could get into employment as soon as possible.

24.01.2022 The aging infrastructure of the Benambra Saleyards in the Gippsland high country has received an upgrade thanks to our Envite Environment team employed as part of the Drought & Bushfire Employment program. The Drought Employment program, which was recently extended to incorporate bushfire affected community members, provides flexible employment to people whose primary income has been impacted by drought or recent bushfires. It helps to provide cashflow to households when it...s needed most, and also offers a social outlet for participants to be amongst peers who understand their situation. Benambra is a prime agricultural district in Gippsland, known for its Hereford cattle. The saleyards are a centrepiece of the township, and each March host the Mountain Cattle sales along with Omeo and Hinnomunjie where around 10,000 cattle are sold over a two day period. The saleyards were in need of urgent repairs to prepare for future events. The team, led by supervisor Tristan, replaced rotting and broken timber on the auctioneer catwalks, they straightened and reinforced the posts on more than 120 cattle gates, and also replaced any old timber within the pens. Feed and water troughs were repaired, and the surrounding yards were tidied up using brushcutters. Love your work team, and were sure the community does too!

23.01.2022 If youre in the Canberra region, please drop by for a coffee at On The Grind Canberra, where youll get to meet the lovely Tessa and Eli, both customers of Workways who are loving their new jobs with owner Fiona. Thank you Fiona and On The Grind Canberra, Tessa and Eli will certainly be great additions to your team.

22.01.2022 Our Work for the Dole crew were approached earlier in the year to work on a project fitting out the inside of a shipping container to operate as a coffee station for The Womens Centre Townsville. The Womens Centre exists to support and empower women in Townsville and surrounding regions and offers services in Womens Health, Homelessness Services, and Sexual Assault Support. Our job seekers commenced the job in early March but unfortunately due to COVID-19, work for the do...le programs were placed on hold. Our multi talented Work for the Dole supervisor, Ryan carried on with the job himself, and last week the coffee station was officially handed over to the The Womens Centre Townsville. We are sure it will be welcomed by the staff and recipients of the service. A huge thank you to Ryan for pushing on and producing a great result for the community!

21.01.2022 VALE Sue Salthouse The Workways Board of Management and staff are deeply saddened by the passing of our esteemed Board member, Sue Salthouse. Sue was a renowned disability and social justice advocate who gave tirelessly to the community, and was passionate about supporting people with disability into meaningful employment. She contributed extensively to our Board, and always did so with our customer front of mind. ... Not only did Sue bring knowledge and lived experience to our team, it was her compassion, giving nature and friendship that made her one of the best. She will be greatly missed. We extend our condolences to her family during this difficult time.

20.01.2022 At a time when youth unemployment is soaring, Subway Australia are actively working to provide jobs for young people. Local store manager, Hayley, has sourced over a dozen staff through Workways & Jobs Victoria over the past two years. As a former Jobs Victoria client herself, Hayley believes that local businesses in Bairnsdale should provide young people with a vital stepping stone and set them up for their future careers. Some of our young employees come from broken homes ...and havent had positive role models to help shape their attitudes to work. While we provide training and help them develop their skills, we also teach them how to have boundaries and meet expectations. Hayley is critical of the lack of access to mental health support services in East Gippsland, and sees that businesses can help fill a void by providing meaningful employment. When people have a purpose and a reason to get out of bed, it can make a big difference to their self-confidence. "And we need to support young people starting out in employment, not scrutinise their every move. Its important to be honest but constructive. Said Hayley. Thank you Hayley and Subway Australia for giving young people a positive start to their employment journey. Subway are open for business!

20.01.2022 2020 has been quite the year. Bushfires, floods, pandemic....thrown into the mix with our day-to-day lives, the pressure does sometimes get too much. Now, more than ever, we need to check in with each other and ask Are you doing okay?. But lets do more than that - lets think about how we carry on the conversation after weve asked that important opening question. What more can we do to support our friends, colleagues, neighbours, customers, local community members? Today... is a handy reminder to connect. We may be physically distanced, but that doesnt mean we have to lose our connection. Be creative, be innovative, do whatever it takes to check in with others. #ruokday2020

15.01.2022 For Beenleigh resident Melinda, facing multiple barriers to employment is familiar territory but with some support and guidance from Workways, she is breaking through the barriers. Melinda Mindy had been unemployed for more than seven years. During this time, Melinda experienced homelessness, battles with addiction and was told that she would never participate in full time work again due to physical injuries. However, this all changed when she met with Workways Recruitmen...t Partner Mostyn. After ongoing mentorship and inspiration, Melinda commenced a Certificate II in Food Processing course. It was this course that reignited Melindas passion for the hospitality industry and belonging to a team in a professional environment. The course enabled Melinda to find the courage to apply for work and attend job interviews. She successfully obtained employment with Contemporary Catering working at an Arcare Aged Care Facility as a Kitchen Attendant. Melinda has now been employed for more than six months and has received several compliments from her team about her enthusiasm, passion and hard work. Congratulations Melinda on your role - you deserve much success!

05.01.2022 Jeffrey Magnaye had always been a positive individual, but a three month stint in correctional facility Ravenhall, tested his resolve and changed his perspective on the justice system. You have two choices when you leave prison. You can become a better man or a bitter man. I chose the former. Said Jeffrey. When Jeffrey first left Ravenhall, he was placed into the Bridge centre which provides services for ex-offenders to adjust back into society. It was at a Jobs Expo there ...that he met Kristine, a Jobs Victoria Employment Broker from Workways Australia. Kristine and Jeffrey worked together to develop his skills and experience to help him prepare for employment. While it was daunting at first, he said that Workways helped alleviate his feelings of stress. Krissy helped me prepare my resume, at a time when I didnt have access to a computer or email. We sat side by side while she helped point me in the right direction. In November 2019, Jeffreys hard work paid off and he was employed by Meipol, a traffic management contractor that works with Public Transport Victoria to maintain assets including bus stops. In his role as Field Maintenance Auditor, Jeffrey is responsible for auditing bus stops and undertaking basic maintenance, assisting in the management of the 26,000 bus stops across Victoria. Meipol provided on the job training and support to help transition into the role. Inspired by his time at Ravenhall, Jeffrey has also commenced a Bachelor of Legal Services, with a goal to transfer into Bachelor of Law next year. Being incarcerated was a humbling experience. It taught me that liberty of choice is everything, and that I need to appreciate the things I have in life. It also showed me that I need to accept my mistakes and consider where I went wrong. Men are often too proud to ask for help, but Im glad for once in my life, I accepted that I needed this help. Jobs Victoria is an initiative of the State Government, Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR), designed to assist Victorians into employment.

He has been an absolute inspiration throughout; hes highly motivated and has been dedicated to becoming job ready. After a short employment trial, hes now been working with the wonderful team at Spantech for the past three weeks an...d is loving his job.
