24.01.2022 Welcoming and acknowledgement of country recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians of land. Pre-Prep engage in this every morning during their morning meeting before marking the roll. Today we read the story The Rainbow Serpent. We learned that this is a dreaming story in Aboriginal society and represents one of the great and powerful forces of nature and spirit. Connected to water, the Rainbow Serpent is the ...great life giver, and protector of water, which is his spiritual home.. We embedded our 3A approach as we engaged in small group conversational reading opportutinies and used our strategies for SEE, SHOW, SAY. Next we explored the Aboriginal Flag and the colours that the flag presents with and what it represents. We learned that the colours are symbolic of the first australians. Black represents the Aboriginal people of Australia. Yellow circle represents the Sun, the giver of life and protector and the colour red represents the red earth, the red ochre used in ceremonies and Aboriginal peoples' spiritual relation to the land. After exploring the colours we engaged in an Art Activity. The children explored the Aboriginal Flag as a stimulus and used the colours red, yellow and black to make their own creations.
23.01.2022 This week is Nutrition week and the Pre-Prep children have explored the different food groups and importance of nutrition by exploring the food pyramid and learning about different food groups and how they make our bodies feel, we completed a cut and glue activity to create a healthy plate of food and we explored fruits and vegetables. During morning tea we engaged in conversations about the different fruits we had on our plates and all the colours. Eating a rainbow of fruit ...and vegetables is important for our health and the rich conversations educators had with the pre-prep children is a part of enriched caregiving in our abecedarian approach. During our group learning experience the children explored ‘a rainbow of fruit and vegetables’ we read the story the very hungry caterpillar and spoke about the different coloured fruit the caterpillar ate. Next we painted our own rainbow and collaged fruits and vegetables onto the correlated colours. See more

Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves.
22.01.2022 Our Junior Early Years children started of the Nutrition week with one of our favourite storybook, 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' Implementing our 3A conversational reading. The children engaged in an open ended conversation related to our theme of the week 'Nutrition Week'. We spoke about 'Healthy and Unhealthy Food' such as carrots, cucumbers, peas and any other veggies, they are all good for you. We extended this conversation on a sensory fruit painting, instead of using paint brush, we also talked about the colours of of favourite fruits/vegetables.

21.01.2022 Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. Today on the eleventh hour, on the eleventh month, on the eleventh day, we paid respect to not only the traditional owners of our land, but also our fallen comrades in Australia and NewZealand, today makes us all very honoured to live in Australia, and recognise no matter what country we come from we are all Australians and so very greatful to call it our home.

17.01.2022 As part of our 3A approach the Pre-Prep children have been enjoying conversational reading and learning games this week. Lucas enjoyed one on one conversational... reading and using the 3S strategy ‘see, show, say’ for what we see on the pages. Some of our other friends have extended on our syllable jump game from last week and we have been using the syllable parts of our names to put them together and say the syllables as we point to each part. 09.01.2022 We are already feeling the Christmas Spirit in Early Years! This year we are going traditional with both Spanish & Samoan languages in our performance. These two languages are from Mr Mario & Miss Christine's background and what they speak at home. It is an absolute pleasure to be teaching the children something different! This helps develop diversity and language within the classroom and also a sense of belonging. We can't wait to show our full dance on our Christmas concert but for now, here's a snippet of our dance! (We do not own copyrights to the song)

05.01.2022 The Junior Early Years children participated in some Indigenous activities such as painting boomerangs, developing our fine motor, hand eye coordination as well as strengthening our muscles as part of Naidoc Week activities. We also played our part in remembering our people who play the biggest part in our lives. ( Our fallen soldiers)
05.01.2022 Early Learners enjoyed our new catch and throw game .... Enriched caregiving is all about using simple transitions to extend children’s vocabulary. Today’s catch and throw game extended children’s language skills as they followed simple directions and used their vocabulary to identify different colours and how many balls each child had collected. It was a spontaneous fun way to grab children’s attention and allow them wiggle time before moving onto the next planned group activity

04.01.2022 This week we have begun trialling a new Childcare App called OWNA, which allows you to view your child’s learning, daily information and centre details from your phone in real time. Parents can read and respond to posts and stay updated on announcements. The App provides a secure environment to improve communication. Collaboration between parent & educators is at the heart of our service and we understand that our services can improve with increased engagement between parent ...& educators. Learning is visible so when everyone is on the same page, the outcomes for the children can only be positive. You will be sent an invitation email, which will include your username and password. This will also provide links to download the OWNA app to your phone via IOS (Apple) or Android. Our Educators and administration staff will be working hard over the next few weeks familiarising themselves with this new app, and we ask that you are patient with us over the coming weeks as we learn together. If you do not receive your OWNA invitation or need any assistance navigating the new app, please come and speak with the Director Peta, who will be happy to assist you.
04.01.2022 As we near the end of 2020, we are beginning to look at our children’s end of year celebrations. At Waterford West Education and Care Centre we are busily making plans to celebrate your child’s achievements for the year. We are pleased to let our families know that we will be organising an end of year celebration for the children and families. Our celebrations this year will look different from previous years due to COVID and QLD health restrictions. This year we will be c...elebrating our Christmas concert on Friday, 11th December 2020 at 3.00pm. This is an opportunity for our educators and families to come together to celebrate your child’s achievement throughout the year. We have held off as long as we can hoping we can run our event as per every year, but we have had to implement some strategies to comply with Qld health restrictions, including: maximum attendance is 2 ADULTS only per child/ren. This will ensure we meet social distancing requirements of the venue families will be positioned apart from each other and must remain seated at all times food will be provided in the shape of a snack box to be taken home on departure There will be no extra activities provided this year. Once your child has performed we ask that you move from the area to collect your snack box and child’s/ren present. Unfortunately we have no choice in limiting the number of adults as we must comply with the 1.2metres social distancing. The centre has limited space which therefore limits us to the number of adults able to attend. We look forward to seeing you at our modified Christmas Concert to help us have some fun and celebrate the crazy year we have all had. From, today, Attendance Letters will be issued to families, we ask that you please complete the attendance slip of who is attending from each family, and return as soon as possible or before Friday, 4th December, 2020 for the catering and seating arrangements. Tickets will be provided for entry so please ensure you write the correct names of attendees.
03.01.2022 Who said you can't have waterplay in the back yard? It's time to bring out that good old hose. Our Junior friends enjoyed their waterplay in the back yard this morning, and it was a great weather for it. We filled containers with water and we had the best time ever .
02.01.2022 This morning Pre-Prep had a group learning experience about car safety. We watched an informative clip on youtube about safely driving in a car. You can see the video here at the end of the post. We had a discussion on road safety and what signs we knew of and recognised. We read a storybook about signs and what they mean in the community in general before the children brought up traffic lights. We discussed what traffic lights mean and Pre-Prep were confident in what each colour of the traffic lights mean. We played a game similar to freeze but using the traffic light colours, green meant go, yellow meant slow motion and red meant to stop/freeze. After the children painted their own traffic lights signs.
02.01.2022 Our swimming friends ventured to their swimming lessons this morning where they developed their gross and fine motor skills, built awareness of water safety and techniques for swimming. Swimming is great for the body, it's also great for your child's mind. It can improve their mood and self-esteem. Learning to swim early on will also reduce a child's fear of water, making pools and beaches less stressful environments. Do you have a child moving to Pre-Prep room next year? Children can attend a Term of swimming lessons once they are over 4 years old. Please see Miss Peta to discuss getting on a waiting list if you would like to access this service in 2021.
01.01.2022 During Naidoc Week, Educators in Early Learners took this opportunity to exercise our embedded 3A Abecedarian Approach , using the 3S strategies- SEE SHOW SAY. While reading our Indigenous story "How the Birds got their Colours", we implemented this practice by making statements and asking questions - "I see you are looking at all the coloured birds!" "Can you show me the black bird?" "Can you say black bird?"... While reading with our children in Early Learners, both individually and in small groups having intentional conversations, we are extending on children's early literacy skills. See more
01.01.2022 Our Junior Early Years children are excited about our Christmas Concert..cant wait Getting them ready for it.
