25.01.2022 As the warmer weather encourages people to enjoy the outdoors, snakes become much more active. It is crucial that we are extra vigilant to protect ourselves and our pets from snake bites. Children and pets can be very curious, and may attempt to chase or kill snakes, putting themselves at risk of bites. Snakes are attracted to safe, quiet places to hide. To make your backyard less appealing to snakes, keep the grass cut low, remove potential harbourage, food and water source...s. Block up holes and potential entry points in fences and walls with an impervious material. If you see a snake on your property DO NOT try to catch or kill it. Most snakes in Victoria are venomous and will strike if they are injured or fear that they are in danger. Walk away from the snake slowly and keep an eye on it from a safe distance (several metres away). If the snake is inside the house, close the door of the room it is in and place a towel under the door. 24.01.2022 Love is in the air. On our farms, in our cities and everywhere in between you can hear the foxes romancing each other as they pair-up for another breeding season. Females come into oestrus for 2 to 3 days over 2 to 3 weeks in winter. Males are fertile throughout winter and early spring. Gestation lasts 51 to 53 days and a litter of 3-5, kits are born in the den. Weaning occurs at 4 to 6 weeks. The young appear from the den in late spring, at about 6 weeks of age. During this time daytime activity by adults feeding cubs is common. The cubs leave the den at about 10 to 12 weeks and by 6 months of age, are independent. Both sexes reach sexual maturity in their first year.

23.01.2022 Peek a boo Rabbits hopping around the backyard may seem cute, but did you know that they can be a host for a number of parasites that can be transferred to your family and pets.

23.01.2022 Foxes are susceptible to the same diseases as dogs and can transmit them to your pets. The fox is a carrier of rabies (where present) and could be a major vector for the spread of the disease if introduced to Australia.
