23.01.2022 Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs) are a group of important,multi-functional carbohydrates uniquely found in human milk. There are over 150-200 HMOs described an...d each has a structure which gives it a function. The composition of HMOs is so specific for each woman it could be considered her "fingerprint." Some women lack the gene to make 2'-FL, the oligosaccharide recently introduced in an infant formula. When I was presenting for the Australian Breastfeeding Association I had the great pleasure of being on that tour with Dr. Lars Bode, a professor at UC San Diego and an expert in Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs) . This is a great piece for those of you who want details about human milk oligosaccharides. I've included Dr. Bode's review paper on HMOs as the first comment for those who want the hard core science. http://www.bodelab.com
