Singapore Airlines today announced it will increase services to Australia from Monday 8 June, adding flights to Adelaide and Melbourne, increasing services to Sydney and, pending regulatory approvals, introducing a circular service that will operate Singapore-Sydney-Brisbane-Singapore. The addition of services to Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne will mark the first scheduled SIA passenger flights to these cities since March following the closure of Australian and Singaporean borders due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Key Points ADL: 1 reinstated flight per week from Adelaide MEL: 2 reinstated flights per week from Melbourne SYD: Increase in services from Sydney to three times weekly SYD/BNE: Addition of a new circular service operating Sydney-Brisbane-Singapore, twice weekly. In addition to Australia and New Zealand services, Singapore Airlines will increase operations to Amsterdam, Bangkok, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, London, Los Angeles, Manila, Narita, Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai and Zurich.

10.01.2022 Comments from Australian Trade and Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham on Tuesday confronting but at the same time realistic. The Minister had the following to say: I wouldnt put any guarantees that you could undertake that overseas trip in December. This is a time where, unfortunately, people cant undertake holidays and they wont be able to go overseas for quite some time to come. There may be a slightly earlier point in time where it becomes feasible to think about ...domestic travel again. Were not there yet but certainly this time is a good time for a bit of dreaming, a bit of planning. Think about the Aussie break that you might take when we finally get to the other side of this. In a later interview the Minister also commented about cruising and to summarize believed that booking cruise travel right now would be madness. At some point in the next 5-6 weeks, Stage 3 lockdowns will be eased, slowly and advisedly, but options will be tested to gauge the impacts on infection rates and the publics response. Later this year, maybe in July or August, some domestic intra-state travel will begin on a State by State basis. And it will be different for different States. Then at some point, hopefully by September (October at the latest), cross border travel will be permitted and domestic flights will start to resume, with frequencies increasing as time goes by on condition that infection rates remain, at the very least, tightly controlled and manageable with our given health resources. Moving in to 2021, the Australian Government will look to allow travel to a very limited number of overseas destinations, on a bilateral basis, to which Australians can travel and return without the need for quarantine and those countries citizens can do the same. Destinations such as New Zealand and possibly some South Pacific countries could be amongst the first to be open to Australian visitors and vice-versa.
