20.01.2022 A big thank you to everyone for the support over the last week. Island Herbs remains open for the time being, with social distancing measures being observed. It’s been so good to see people getting in to their gardens at this difficult time, and especially to grow food. There are more seedlings on their way, with a new batch to be ready in a couple of weeks. We will update this space when they become available. If you would like to arrange a sale without entering the nursery,... please call 0417553143 and leave a phone number. There is hand sanitizer in the nursery for everyone to use. 08.01.2022 VEGIE seedlings looking great, ready to plant, great range autumn /winter greens open wed to sat 9 to 4 Lots of perennials too, culinary, medicinal, ornamental, cut flowers, scented, bee plants, dye plants, companion plants

08.01.2022 Next batch of seedlings are almost ready, however they are small 1. Leave on sunny outdoor table(safe from wildlife) to harden off for 1 week to 10 days so nice size to handle without damage. (if you leave inside they will get soft and leggy and will not do as well) DO NOT OVER WATER, light sprinkling is fine 2.Prepare your soil in this time. Personally I like to lightly dig over the bed or use a small tiller for winter. The bed will drain better and root growth quicker.( no ...dig gardening is also an option)Your garden beds need to get all day sun in winter for optimum results 3. I lime in Autumn (dolomite Lime) as leafy greens, brassicas and onion tribe like lime. I also add sheep manure or horse manure. I find digging a trench and burying manures, eliminates weeds from the manure. ( do do not add blood and bone or Dynamic lifter at the same time as Lime.) 4. Weeds will germinate within this 10 days as turning the soil brings weed seed to the light and they germinate. Rake, hoe or hand weed. you can use light mulches in winter too heavy and it cools the soil. 5. Plant, you can use a light liquid feed to water in (helps with transplant shock and promotes growth, you can do this again in a week or so, gets your little seedlings motoring along) Do not overwater your seedlings light watering will do, if you put your finger in the soil and it is dry around the root zone then water 6. Be vigilant checking for slugs and snails, you can place pots with bottom cut out for added protection. Coffee grounds also good. 7. pot any spare seedlings into little pots, egg cartons etc for spares in case you do lose any. Or give to friends 8. I recommend Potting up Cauliflower, Cabbage and heading Broccoli's into small pots and lightly liquid feeding regularly to get 4x in size before planting. It is too late to plant Brussel sprouts. I do sell sprouting broccolis and Collards (leaf cabbage, harvest leaves as required) PLEASE REMEMBER WHILE AT THE NURSERY 4sqm Between customers. I may have to ask you to wait at the gate if busy. Regards Lindy
