22.01.2022 Photo: Caitlyn Appleby riding Diva. Great horses are not often easy horses. These horses take time to figure out, they are complex and complicated. Initially, most buttons you push will result in you tasting your arena surface. These horses are often sensitive and reactive, one accidental squeeze and you’ll likely find yourself in orbit, or three counties away from where you started. ... These horses have strong characters, they don’t take well to being forced or bullied. Losing your temper will likely result in a hoof shaped bruise or a broken headcollar at the very least... do not fight with these horses, you will not win. These horses are often labelled cracked, quirky, unrideable or even dangerous. They are the ones who can be easily passed from home to home, never finding anyone with the patience or ability to unlock their potential. But these horses have something about them that not every horse does. They don’t necessarily have all the looks, paces or presence... but they have heart, more heart than money could ever buy. These horses aren’t next day miracles or overnight champions, they take time and patience, and it’s rarely ever smooth sailing. These horses won’t find many people who understand them, and even fewer with the skill and tact to ride them. 06.01.2022 Rider Profile: Karina Bartlett, an inspiration for all our riding mums. Love it ! Earlier this year Karina discovered our JS kinko's in Silver. After using the same pair of stirrups for the past 30 odd years, It wasn't a surprise to learn how much she loves them. Karina writes..." I was so excited to receive a new pair of Kinko Silver Stirrups over Christmas. Amazing! My background up until I became a mum has mostly been dressage but as a kid I went to pony club and had a go... at a bit everything. Somehow I was blessed with eventing kids and now tends to rule the competition calendar. My husband, Cam, loves racing and has a passion for Off The Track Thoroughbreds. At the moment we have 4 fabulous OTTs in work for this season. I do love sharing my passion of horses with my husband and our girls - we are a super team. I have to confess, however, it can be a juggle to fit in my riding and dressage competitions but where there is a will there’s a way. My mare has been far from easy. Sounds so corny but she has taught me it’s truly not about the destination but the journey. Training with Stuart Archibald for the last 2 years has been a turning point for us as a combination. Cynthia Bossema and Andrew Cooper have also played a big part. I’m so excited to continue to compete and learn more this year. One of my 2020 goals is to take on another dressage horse. I hope this post might provide some inspiration to other mums who ride. We can do it !"
