21.01.2022 What's for dinner in your house tonight....Lamb of course. Here is a little delicious tempter to get you started with the fabulous Hayden Quinn (All stars MasterChef) showing us how easy it is to cook lamb. Hayden Quinn is one of the most successful MasterChef Australia contestants after he placed sixth in season three. MasterChef changed his life and is looking forward to going up against the "best of the best" in the current series. Hayden has hosted "South Africa an...d Surfing the Menu Next Generation" on the ABC, but his self-described baby is "Taste Of Australia" which first aired in February 2020. But more importantly Hayden features in the 2020 Australian Dohne Breeders Journal with one of his favourite recipes cooking Australian Dohne Lamb. #dohne #masterChef #AllstarsmasterChef #Delicious #HaydenQuinn #australianlamb #kardiniadohnes

21.01.2022 Did you know "That it takes more energy for a lamb to make 1kg of fat than it does to make 1kg of red meat"? Furthermore as long as the fatter lamb is eating exactly the same energy as a leaner type of lamb then it is unable to grow as fast making it a less profitable animal. Muscle scanning allows you to more accurately identify the best animals in a flock for breeding. We work closely with Parker Scanning and record valuable muscle scanning data that form part of the ASBV...'s. Dohne ram breeders produce ASBVs for major measured performance traits, including number of lambs weaned (NLW), maternal weaning weight (MWWT), live weight (WT), muscle depth (EMD), fat depth (Fat), fleece weight (CFW), fibre diameter (FD) and coefficient of variation (CV) of FD. Ram buyers can then confidently select Kardinia Dohnes based on ASBV's and a balance of traits required for their individual flocks. www.kardiniadohnes.com.au

10.01.2022 Global trends are clear, breeders need to aim for a resilient, highly fertile, income producing meat & wool sheep. At Kardinia we aim to breed rams with excellent Sheep Breeding Values for post weaning early growth, eye muscle and fat, clean fleece weight and high staple length. https://online.flippingbook.com/view/295705/

07.01.2022 Lambing is now finished for another year with all mums and bubs happily grazing out in their respective paddocks. Our attention now turn to preparing for our annual on property ram sale. All our rams will have full pedigrees available with ASBVs for major measured performance traits, weaning and post weaning weight, fleece weight, fibre diameter and CV of fibre diameter. Also recorded is eye muscle, fat depth, reproduction and index. Why use ASBV’s? Dohne ASBV’s describes ...the expected performance of the sheep’s progeny for a trait relative to the performance of the sheep in all registered Dohne ram breeding flocks. Why Benchmark? We display the current Dohne standard (Percentile Band Table). This is a guide to the performance of each Kardinia registered Dohne ram relative to the current Dohne breed standard. Kardinia On property ram sale Thurs 17th September. www.kardiniadohnes.com.au

03.01.2022 Busy times at Kardinia with shearing and wool sales over for another year. With a lot of things making-up the consumer retail basket, and woollen clothing tending to be a discretionary purchase rather than a necessity the global wool sales have taken a tumble. Kardinia recently sold their wool clip and received a premium, well beyond the valuations due to the unmulesed status. We want to make sure we’re in a position to provide what our customers are asking for and unmulesed... wool is a very important part of that strategy. Kardinia ceased mulesing 15 years ago and is now accredited through Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) that provides full traceability of our fibre from wool growing on our sheep to becoming someone’s favourite garment. Our new crop of woolly jumpers are just hitting the ground with lambing about to hit its peak. Just as well Covid 19 is keeping the family grounded with all hands on deck.
