25.01.2022 ¡Bienvenidos! Welcome to the town of Setenil de las Bodegas in Cádiz, Spain (España), where around 3,000 inhabitants are living quite literally, under a rock. Believe it or not, people (la gente) chose to settle here for practical reasons. The natural caves of Setenil turned out to be ideal living quarters to keep out the heat in the summer (verano) and the cold in the winter(invierno), all they needed to build was a facade. It is believed people have been living here since ...pre-historic times. Setenil has a reputation for its meat products, particularly chorizo sausage and cerdo (pork) from pigs bred in the surrounding hills. As well as meat, it has a reputation for producing fine pasteles (pastries), and its bars and restaurants are among the best in the region. Its outlying farms also provide Ronda and other local towns with much of their fruit and vegetables Setenil de las Bodegas has a Mediterranean climate(clima), with hot, dry summers (JunAug) and mild winters (DecFeb). Carnival (Feb/Mar) includes street parades, dancing and music. Easter Week (Mar/Apr), or Semana Santa, sees 2 local brotherhoods put on competing processions through the towns narrow streets. The Feria de Setenil de las Bodegas (Aug) is a multi-day event with concerts, horseback riding and flamenco dancing. The Fiesta del Aceite (date varies) celebrates local olive oil production with a market and tastings. Have you been in this Spanish town? - ¿Has estado en este pueblo español? Would you like to go? ¿Te gustaría ir? @ Setenil de las Bodegas

23.01.2022 Costa Rica is a tropical haven in Central America, but there are plenty of facts I bet you didnt know about this small, peaceful, eco-diverse country. Here are some interesting facts about Costa Rica 1. Pura vida is commonly heard in Costa Ricait means pure life and is often used as a greeting instead of hello and goodbye. 2. Costa Ricans refer to themselves as Ticos (for men) and Ticas (for women).... 3. One of the most eco-minded countries in the world, 25-percent of land in Costa Rica is protected and its home to an incredible 5% of the worlds biodiversity, and just 0.3% of the total surface area of the planet. 4. Costa Rica is smaller than Lake Michigan in the USA. 5.Costa Rica has had no standing army since 1949. 6.Approximately 10-percent of the worlds butterflies live in Costa Rica. 7.Blowing your nose in public is frowned upon in Costa Ricain fact its seen as downright impolite and disgusting. 8.Poor children who cant go to school take classes via Costa Ricas national radio station. 9.There are an estimated 20,000 species of spiders. 10.The country is surrounded by 800 miles of coastline, by both Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. 11.The sun rises and sets at the same time in Costa Rica365 days a year! 12.Costa Rica is home to an impressive 52 different species of hummingbird and an abundant number of monkeys. In fact, theyre one of the most common mammals next to bats. 13.The national flower is the orchid. 14.The country contains seven active volcanoes and a total of 121 volcanic formations. 15.Costa Rica has coffee tasters who train for five years to refine their palate. They are called Catadores and are just as important to Costa Rica as wine tasters are to France. Often these Catadores taste the coffee while its cold, because it should taste just as good as when its hot (if its of good quality). 16.Costa Rica is a third world country, however, its not cheap due to the high volume of international tourists. 17.Nicoya is a city considered one of the five Blue Zones in the world, meaning it is common for their residents to live over 100 years old. 15.01.2022 Comida tradicional mexicana preparada por fabulosas cocineras oaxaqueas. Qu rico! Traditional Mexican food prepared by fabulous Oaxacan cooks. Delicious! Mexicos traditional cuisine was the first ethnic cuisine in the world to be recognized by UNESCO on its list of Culinary Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Mexican food in the country is very diverse. You can find big differences in each state and province, from North to South, from the hot climate region...s to the coasts, and from the mountains to the arid areas. There is a great variety of cultures and communities within the country; this is why the food from each region has different textures, flavours and scents. Traditional Mexican cuisine is a comprehensive cultural model comprising farming, ritual practices, age-old skills, culinary techniques and ancestral community customs and manners. It is made possible by collective participation in the entire traditional food chain: from planting and harvesting to cooking and eating. The basis of the system is founded on corn, beans and chili; unique farming methods, cooking processes and singular utensils including grinding stones and stone mortars. Native ingredients such as varieties of tomatoes, squashes, avocados, cocoa and vanilla augment the basic staples. Mexican cuisine is elaborate and symbol-laden, with everyday tortillas and tamales, both made of corn, forming an integral part of Day of the Dead offerings. Collectives of female cooks and other practitioners devoted to raising crops and traditional cuisine are across Mexico. Their knowledge and techniques express community identity, reinforce social bonds, and build stronger local, regional and national identities.

12.01.2022 Gelato vs Ice CreamWhich one do you prefer? Whats your favourite flavour? Che gusto preferisci? Vaniglia (vanilla), cocco (coconut), cioccolato (chocolate), pistacchio (pistachio), fragola (strawberry), nocciola (hezelnut), limone (lemon)... While its unknown who invented ice cream, its earliest renditions trace back to ancient China. A mix of buffalo milk, flour, and ice was said to be a favorite dessert of King Tang of Shang. Later versions of the dessert include...d fruit, juice or honey served over fresh mountain snow. Ice cream evolved to include dairy from cows and eventually egg yolks, and it became a delicacy reserved for the elite. However, ice cream did not become a popular dessert until the 19th century when technological advances in the dairy industry and refrigeration techniques allowed manufacturers to make and distribute it cheaply and in large quantities. Gelato was first made in Italy, though there is some confusion over where it originated. Some believe it was first made in Sicily while others believe it originated in Florence. Gelato and ice cream share three main ingredients dairy, sugar, and air. The difference lies in their proportions. Whereas ice cream is airier and has a higher fat content, gelato is softer and packed with flavor. Both contain a lot of sugar, but gelato is traditionally made with much less fat. Either can be part of a healthy diet when consumed occasionally and in moderation.

12.01.2022 Long before its association with Easter, the egg was a symbol of rebirth. Many ancient cultures used the egg to symbolize both rebirth and the universe. Ancient civilisations such as the Persians, the Egyptians, the Chinese, the Gauls and the Romans, all used the egg in their springtime celebrations. ... However, when Christianity spread to the lands of these ancient cultures, the exchanging of colored eggs became incorporated in the memorial celebration of Jesus resurrection, the holy day that came to be known as Easter. These Easter eggs were colored and given as tokens to remind Christians of the tomb and Jesus triumphant victory over death.

05.01.2022 Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated November 2. On this day, the life of the departed loved ones is honoured and it is believed that the souls of the dead return to visit their living family members. Day of the Dead traces its origins back to several thousand years to the rituals of the Aztec and other Indigenous Nahua civilizations of what is now central Mexico. Today, many Mexicans celebrate this day through the traditions... of the past by visiting the graves of deceased loved ones and by setting out offerings and altars which include the deceased’s favorite foods and drinks, photos, flowers, candles and traditional foods such as the sweet and aptly-named pan de muerto (bread of the dead). La Catrina is one of the most recognizable figures of Day of the Dead, a towering female skeleton with vibrant make up and a flamboyant feathery hat. The Lady of Death worshipped by the Aztecs protected their departed loved ones, guiding them through their final stages of the life and death cycles. La Catrina that we know today came to be in the early 1900s by controversial and political cartoonist José Guadalupe Posada. Plans for Day of the Dead are made throughout the year. Toys are offered to dead children and bottles of alcohol or jars of alote get offered to dead adults. Most families decorate their loved ones’ graves with ofrendas, which include marigolds. It’s said that these specific flowers attract the souls of the dead to the offerings, and the bright petals and strong scent guides the souls from the cemetery to their family’s home. Since 2008, the holiday has been recognized by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in honor of this celebration that keeps Mexico's rich history and traditions alive. iFeliz Día de los Muertos! #DiaDeMuertos #dayofthedead
