15.01.2022 Members and guests The board wishes to advise that due to other work and personal commitments Tanya and Micheal have advised they are no longer able to service the Golf club for dinners on Friday nights. It has been a huge effort by them over the last few years in keeping the kitchen open while having full time commitments elsewhere. ... The board would like to thank and acknowledge the hard work they have done in supplying great meals each Friday night. The board is currently in the process of advertising the kitchen for lease, but until we are able to find a replacement the club will be unable to offer Friday night dinners. 11.01.2022 PARKES GOLF CLUB SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2020 In the early days of professional golf and tournament golf, there was only one championship: The Open Championship, what is often referred to today as the British Open. Founded in 1860, for decades it was the only national championship played by professional golfers. In the 1890s and early 1900s, other national opens plus other significant professional golf tournaments started appearing and then came alo...ng the Short Course Championships of Parkes to join the illustrious worldwide events The event is sponsored by Big D, Denis Howard and he has coordinated a massive array of prizes for players which is above and beyond a normal sponsor, so please all players go out of your way to thank the big fella on his massive effort. If you have lived under a rock for the last ten years and not sure who Denis is, then here is a grown-up photo to help. ( Photo below ) Tomorrow sees the annual Short Course Championship where the men hit off the ladies red tees and the Ladies utilise the Yellow tees to identify who are our Short Course Champions for 2020 will be. The red tees are not foreign to some of the men such as Jarrod Kemp, Rob Cheney, Mark Kelly and Brian Hogan as often their tees shots finish on or before the red tees during normal comps whilst the Ladies will cherish the shorter distances which may help Col Flynn who tends to get lost quite easily. The main threats in the ladies will see Leone Stevenson fresh from a Sth Coast golf holiday and carrying an injured ankle (beware the injured golfer rule) take on big guns Lyn Davison, Frankie Cock, Cath Kelly and current champ Anita Medcalfe but if Col Flynn can remember where her ball goes she may throw off an injury ravaged year to claim her 1591st career trophy. The mens champ is harder to find as with the smaller distances the big hitters will be, looking to overpower the course such as Phil Barnard, Jack Elliott, Michael Thomas but it also may play into the hands of the accurate iron players such as Family Magill, Rob Hey, Riall Harrison and Joe Van Opynen though the dark horse has to be Wayne Parker who is fresh and hitting some great form. So members, if you are looking for a new experience which combines fun, different tees and some excellent prizes then don’t miss out on what will be a great day of golf and most importantly support one of our members who has dug into his own pocket to support our golf club and our playing members Great work Denis See you on the fairways and good luck!

08.01.2022 Crazy afternoon at Parkes Golf Club a couple of groups got stuck in the little shower and hail, but everyone returned safely.

06.01.2022 On Sunday, the prestigious Cunningham’s IGA shootout will be contested attached is our expert’s view of events. Four former winners will start in this year’s Cunningham’s IGA Scratch Shootout including Ian Phipps, John Green, Robert Hey and Ken Cobcroft, while a list of up and coming golfers will attempt to shift the mantle to the younger players. This year’s field is very strong and has multiple numbers of players who on their day could take home this highly regarded event. ...The field comprises 19 starters with one player dropping out on each hole based on the highest scratch score which ultimately will see 2 players left to play the last hole with the winner taking all the accolades and prizemoney. With some notable absences due to work commitments such as low marker Mitch McGlashan, the opportunities for the new brigade such as Riall Harrison, Jack Elliott, Aaron Wilkie and Blake Parker will put pressure on the old timers, Rob Hey, Ken Cobcroft and John Green which provides for an exciting contest. The tips for the last two players will see Aaron Wilkie and Riall Harrison fight it out up the 18th. The most dubious honour of being first eliminated has numerous candidates with the following players expected to leave the contest in the following order: 1. Ron Hetherington 7. Phil Bishop 13. Luke Clarke 2. Rod Kiley 8. Blake Smith 14. Blake Parker 3. Ian Phipps 9. Brendan Chambers. 15. John Green 4. Matt Lawryk 10. Brad Scott 16. Rob Hey 5. Peter Bristol 11. Anthony Riach 17. Ken Cobcroft 6.Phil Barnard 12. Jack Elliott 18. Riall Harrison / Aaron Wilkie The event will be full of action, drama and sledging among the players and it is really who can survive a bad hole in the first nine holes to enter the cauldron of the last nine which sees the tension build and the drama increase. Cunningham’s IGA Peter Boschman, while congratulating all players who have made the final, wishes everyone all the best and believes that luck plays an important part of the challenge as one fatal mistake can prove disastrous. Supporters are welcome to come and watch this entertaining and sought-after event which commences at 9am Sunday 22nd November.
