13.01.2022 ****** PLEASE READ ****** 2020 has seen the Redan Football Netball Club face challenges like we have never seen in our lifetime with the cancellation of the 2020 season for all competitions we participate in (Seniors, Juniors and Female football) having a significant impact on our players, parents, members, sponsors and volunteers. At this stage, every one in the club I have spoken to has no greater wish than to be able to return to training and playing, and to gather togeth...er as a club and enjoy each other’s company. It’s exactly how I’m feeling at present. 2021 will see the club celebrate its 150th Anniversary, and planning is well underway for a range of activities and functions that will see us celebrate in style. The Board of Management of the club has worked hard to ensure the club is in the best possible position to re-launch in 2021, with maintaining the financial viability of the club a key goal. Fundraising has been a key challenge this year, with most of our traditional activities cancelled or severely curtailed. To those of you who have been able to assist through the ‘Friends of the Den’, the 'Good For Footy' raffle earlier this year, or the Meals nights run by the Western Hotel and the Ballarat Leagues Club, you have our thanks and gratitude. For those who haven’t had the opportunity to participate in those activities, our final fundraising effort for the 2020 season is underway with the I’m Still Standing raffle. We are looking to sell 300 tickets at $20 per ticket and that puts you in the draw for first prize of gift vouchers to the value of $500 and 2nd to 6th prizes of gift vouchers to the value of $100.00 each. To date we’ve sold just under 100 tickets, with under 2 weeks to go to the draw on AFL Grand Final day. Tickets are available through TicketHost via the following link. https://tickethost.com.au/v2/Performance.aspx Get behind it and do your bit to keep the Lions roaring in 2021! 10.01.2022 A couple of years ago Dan Andrews was at the Western Oval for the official opening of the re-surfaced and re-drained oval, the new ground lights, and the re-furbished kitchen/canteen. Today there has been a significant announcement re 100,000 $200 vouchers which will be available before next season to help kids get active in sports again post COVID-19. There'll be more details coming on how this will all work, but great to see the photo the Premier has used when making today...'s announcement is our own Savannah, seen here in deep conversation with the premier at the Western Oval. Savannah has been a member of our very successful Female Football program since 2017, and represents well the participation opportunities the growth of Female Football in our club has opened up for young people in our community. Bring on 2021! Go Lions!

10.01.2022 Annual General Meeting 2020 While COVID-19 bought our 2020 playing season to a halt, the administrative tasks of our club have continued as we look to position ourselves for a successful re-launch of the full range of club activities in 2021. Next year promises to be a significant year for the club as we resume playing the sports we love, and we celebrate our 150th year anniversary as a club. An important step in preparing for 2021 is our Annual General Meeting where the Bo...ard of Management for 2021 will be elected. The Annual General Meeting of the Redan Football Netball Club Inc. will be held on Sunday the 29th November 2020 at the Western Oval Hall at 11:00am. The meeting will include the presentation of various reports for the 2020 season followed by the election of the Board of Management for the 2021 season. Members are invited to nominate to serve on the Board of Management for the 2021 season (November 2020 through to November 2021). Members must be nominated by an existing member, and be seconded by another member. Nominees must also accept the nomination. A nomination form is attached to the communication. Completed forms can be returned by email to the [email protected]. Completed forms can also be delivered by hand to the Den at the City Oval on Friday evening (20th November 2020) between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. Completed nomination forms must be in the hands of the club secretary Karen Baker by Sunday the 22nd November 2020 1 week prior to the AGM. I look forward to welcoming you on the day. Yours in Football and Netball, Garry Goyne President Redan Football Netball Club

10.01.2022 Hi all, Wanted to give a huge shout out to all our members, players, parents, sponsors, supporters and those who just love community sport for buying tickets in the Toyota ‘Good For Footy’ raffle in support of our club. In a very difficult year for Football clubs everywhere, it’s been a welcome initiative to help us raise much needed funds for the club. We’ve been notified this morning that the raffle has sold out. A lot of clubs around the country have jumped on board with t...his raffle this year, and sales have closed about 3 weeks earlier than we expected. Unfortunately if you haven’t purchased tickets yet you’ve missed out for this year, but don’t worrythere’s always next year! So how did we go? 696 tickets were purchased, raising a total of $3,480.00 for the club.a great result, and about double what was raised last year. The raffle is still scheduled to be drawn on 20 August 2020, so stay tuned for the results! We’ll be drawing our bonus Fire Pit prize before then so stay tuned for that as well. Many thanks to all Garry Goyne President

09.01.2022 Can you help the club win $1,000.00 worth of equipment? Simply complete the survey via the link below. Very simple and takes about 10 minutes. Thanks in anticipation!

08.01.2022 Alex Harvey Interview 1. You've decided to head up to the Northern Territory to play football, how did this come about? I was definitely keen to play footy some way this year and location wasn’t really going to prevent that. I talked to Hoy a bit about heading up to the NT and he contacted people, and it was all pretty straight forward from there a few back and forths with a few different clubs and I only decided which club I was going to play for sitting at the airport. ... 2. What do you know about your new club Pint and the competition you will be playing in? I don’t know a whole heap about the club, although I’ve been told it’s got a good country feel which helped in picking the club and my roommate is also playing for Pint, which will be helpful when getting to games etc as he has a car, I’ve been told it’s a competitive league so I’ll have my work cut out for me that’s for sure. 3. Do you know of any other Ballarat players you are likely to face this season? I don’t know anyone from Ballarat who is also up here other then one Sebas player, which is always nice to see a familiar face. However I’ve been told from some locals that half of Victoria is up here playing. 4. What difference (if any) do you expect to see in the style of football being played? I definitely expect the pace to be lighting up here a lot of running and definitely clocking up a lot of kms during the game. 5. How long is the season and how will the wet season impact on this? The season kicks off on Friday 2nd of October so I’ll only have one week of proper training once out of quarantine so hopefully I can acclimatise well enough by then, and the season finishes in late March. The wet season runs from October through to April so obviously there will be plenty of wet games but at least it won’t be cold so can’t complain much. 6. What goals have you set yourself for the season? My goals for the season really are just really to set myself up for a good 2021 at Redan. As well as playing well up here for the club, and a flag wouldn’t go astray either. I also hope to make the move into the midfield. 7. What are you doing away from football while up there? Plans other than footy are to work a bit which the club is going to help me with which is nice. As well as being a bit of a tourist, and making the most of having no restrictions. 8. How have you kept up your fitness in the absence of group training during COVID? The weeks leading up to leaving I was probably the fittest I’ve ever been however I haven’t been able to run for a couple weeks with a quad injury so hopefully that’s fixed itself by the first game.

04.01.2022 Ballarat Football Club v Redan Football Club The following report is from the ‘Ballarat Star’, Monday 4th September. 1871. Ian Pym our Redan FNC Historian has found two recorded matches against the Ballarat Football Club in 1871 it is certainly the second oldest football club in Ballarat, it was formally formed as a football club in early 1871.... The Redan team: P. Bowden (Captain), O’Neil, Hughes, Sherman (2), P Healy, Dargan, O’Keefe, Bowe (2), Meagher, Taylor, Harrigan, Emergency J T Slattery, Tierney, Brennan, O’Connor, Kelly. The kickoff was half past two Sharp. ‘. Wynne’s paddock which was situated between Carlton and Sturt Streets Ballarat was held on Saturday afternoon the scene of the decidedly the roughest and most closely- contested match the Ballarat Football has played this season. The club’s opponents were the members of the Redan Football Club ‘alias’ the tribute workers of the Band of Hope (mine), who were stalwart, strong fellows, averaging about 14 stone. In this respect they had the advantage of the members of the Ballarat Football Club, who were all light weights, and played without their captain and several well-known players. The game itself was played against all rules of football, holding being the order of the day, while the Redan Club had no scruples in tripping, and worse. For these breaches, the umpire gave reprisals, although in every case the Redan men protested, and at times the disputes seemed likely to end in a free fight. The Redan club seldom picked up the ball; they rush about after the ball and play with no skill but by main force. The ground was very slippery and wet, so that, with the ball being greasy, the best players could make no show, not being able either to hold the ball or retain their footing. McLeod made some brilliant spurts, but from the reasons stated, they were of little avail. Merrin was anxious to work but failed in doing much. Boyd had two splendid chances within a few yards of the goal but seemed too excited and missed both. It is needless to describe the Redan players, as they were all about the same- here, there, and every-where: kicking and tripping regardless of consequences. We understand that Mr. George Bignell, of the Brunswick Hotel, got his collar bone broken. There was a numerous attendance of spectators, many of them being backers of the Redan Club, and were very enthusiastic. The lookers-on had no end of amusement from the rough play and ludicrous way the Redan Club played. Mr. Foote discharged his more than onerous duties as central umpire with satisfaction to all who know the rules of football. It is to be hoped, when the club next tries conclusions, the tributors will play more in accordance with the rules, and that the ground will be in better condition. Then, the Ballarat Football Club hopes to make up in its activity and skill what it is deficient in weight.’ The ‘Ballarat Star’, Monday 4th September. 1871
