01.01.2022 I have a big social media presence where people are listening so right now I am going to use it in a way you havent seen from me before. - I want to talk abou...t depression, anxiety and suicide which isnt something I cover much. I feel suicide just like obesity related deaths can be prevented from happening prematurely with professional help. Obesity is visible and easy to spot, depression is not. You cant hide obesity from your friends and family, but depression you can. - You cant force a smile to those who care about you to hide obesity, but you can when youre suicidal. The reality is Ive lost more friends to suicide than I have obesity so Im just speaking up. We need to talk about the elephant in the room more, we need to care about those around us more. We need to stop assuming mental health is obvious or visible because its not. Were worried about sharks when we swim in the sea 1 in 264.1million are your odds. Youre over 30,000x more likely to end your own life than experience a fatal shark attack. Suicide is the leading cause of death in males between 15-44 in Australia. Every single person reading this post can make a difference. Reach out to your closest friends and ask them if theyre alright. - We need to protect not only ourselves but those around us from preventable deaths, combining those visible like obesity and those invisible like depression. You could literally save someones life and save their loved ones from bereavement just by asking if theyre ok. James
