25.01.2022 Vale Rick Keam It is with great sadness that the VFFA reports that Rick Keam died yesterday after a long battle with cancer. Rick’s life was rich and varied, and his incredible creative talent was expressed in so many areas. He was a talented musician who wrote and performed songs at Country and Folk music festivals. A few years ago he recorded and released a delightful and immensely entertaining CD called Ordinary Stories. His contribution to fly fishing and fly fishing li...terature was immense. He wrote or edited a number books on fly fishing, including The Flyfishers’ Annual, Australia’s Best Trout Flies Revisited, the VFFA’s history The Country for an Angler and the VFFA’s book of fly patterns called Time Flies. He also contributed several articles to our fly fishing magazines. Rick was also well known as an avid and innovative fly tier who created a number of very effective patterns. His Autumn Hopper is just one of his many patterns that has been recognised as simply one of the best. As an advocate for trout, Rick was a Councillor and life member of the the Victorian Fly Fishers’ Association, a member of the Australian Trout Goundation and the Council of Victorian Fly Fishers. He worked with and/or advised groups such as the Victorian Fisheries Authority, Catchment Management Authorities, the NSW Fisheries, ACT Fisheries and the EPA. Rick’s contribution to Australia’s trout fishing and to the anglers of Australia is indeed immense. While he never sought publicity or recognition his legacy will continue far into the future. Our sincere condolences are extended to Rick’s family and his many friends at this time.

24.01.2022 The VFFA is very sad to report the passing of esteemed member, Bob Roles, on October 23 2020, following an 18 month battle with illness. Bob was a resident of Bendigo but a frequent and welcome addition to VFFA functions in Melbourne over the years. Bob's skills as a fly-fisherman were well know and he was regarded as one of the finest anglers in our ranks. Our thoughts are condolences are with Bob's family and friends at this time.

19.01.2022 Look out for trout! The Mitta Mitta River is getting more fish habitat! A project to provide much needed habitat at Katie Peters Reserve is going ahead thank...s to your fishing licence fees. The North East CMA has grabbed a grant of more than $40,000 as part of the 2019/20 round of rec fishing grants. Theyll be supported by local fishing clubs and the Australian Trout Foundation Inc, which has led several recent projects in the north east. ATF president Terry George said the organisation would provide volunteers to assist in restoring the health of the riverbank at the reserve, having also helped identify the location. The project includes boulder seeding to provide an area of variable flow for fish to have a spell and a feed. Lunkers (logs installed into undercut banks) will also be used to give the rivers trout and blackfish spots to hide out in. The Katie Peters Reserve is named after a firefighter who was tragically killed in the 2013 Harrietville bushfires and grew up on a dairy farm at nearby Tallandoon. To learn more about all the projects to score funding in the latest round of grants, visit vfa.vic.gov.au/feesatwork2020 #yourfishinglicencefeesatwork #fishhabitat #mittamitta
