23.01.2022 As amazing as it sounds, a recent study out of Europe found that people who ate three servings weekly or more of nuts had a stunning 40% less risk for cancer de...ath. (One serving of nuts is 28 grams or 1 oz.). Nuts are brimming with antioxidants, PACs (proanthocyanidins), magnesium and heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to double down on nut consumption, but do consider how you can get more of this superfood into your daily routine! 15.01.2022 Can Red Bell Peppers Cut Lung Cancer Risk in Half? A recent study found that adults whose diets were richest in beta-cryptoxanthin had 55% less risk for lung ca...ncer. And red bell peppers are our richest source of this powerful nutrient, providing 450 micrograms per 100 gram serving. In order to explore if it really was the beta-cryptoxanthin at work, researchers treated mice with it and found that it did indeed reduce lung tumor incidence by an incredible 91% as well as markedly extend their lifetimes. After 100 days, all the untreated mice had died but 94% of the mice getting beta-cryptoxanthin were still alive. Beta-cryptoxanthin is a powerful antioxidant and is a member of the carotenoid family, so absorption is maximized when consumed with health fats like extra virgin olive oil. 11.01.2022 Leafy Greens Keep Your Brain YoungBy 11 Years! According to a recent study, people who eat at least one serving daily of leafy green vegetables have brains tha...t functioned as if they were 11 years younger compared to non-consumers of the same age. Effective brain age was assessed using the global cognitive score which included tests for working memory, visuospatial ability and perceptual speed. Typical leafy greens like spinach, kale and leaf lettuce are rich in lutein, vitamin K1, folate and flavonoids which appear to be the key nutrients at work here (especially lutein). 10.01.2022 Good morning and happy Friday. My favourite place to sit in the morning having a cup of tea and a meditation. Enjoy your weekend.

08.01.2022 Bees and bananas great day

05.01.2022 In a recent observational study out of Europe, people who ate pumpkin about three times weekly had an impressive 43% reduced risk for lung cancer, basically cut...ting their risk in half. Not only is pumpkin a rich source of beta-carotene, vitamin C, lutein, zeaxanthin and potassium, but it also contains a recently discovered polysaccharide that’s toxic to cancer cells. So this Thanksgiving and beyond, why not try some healthier versions of pumpkin like roast, stewed or as soup? (And if you must have pie, do try a lower sugar version.) 05.01.2022 Had my lovely Thursday in the garden and yesterday I was remembering a dear friend Kath Brebner who gave me a gardeners gift 6 years ago. I use and reuse this string and every time I do I think of Kath who gave it to me. Maybe we should gift useful things so that we are remembered for our kindness. Something so simple

01.01.2022 Got Cancer? Lay Off the Sugar. That’s the clear message from a recent study out of the US, where colon cancer patients had an incredible 67% increased risk of d...eath or cancer recurrence if they drank 2 or more servings of sugar-sweetened beverages daily. These beverages included soda pop and also sugar-sweetened fruit juices, drinks and punchesso just because fruit is among the ingredients, doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Among sweetened beverage users, the increased risk of death and cancer recurrence was worse for men (+127% risk), those who didn’t exercise much (+97% risk) and the overweight (those with BMI over 25 had 106% increased risk). And they say sugar doesn’t feed cancer. Please search for 24937507 on Pubmed dot gov to find the article. See more
