10.01.2022 Who remembers the scales that stood outside the West Wyalong Post Office many years ago? Manufactured in England around 1880 by George Slater, these scales were protected by Queen Victoria's Royal Crest and Patent. In the early 1900's, approx. 1000 of these scales were sent to Australia and placed at railway stations and post offices. During WW II, many scales in England were recalled by the British War Ministry and recycled for the iron and brass content to help with the w...ar effort. The only known scale of this type left in England is in the British Railway Museum in Derby. Did you find this post interesting? Did you know that the Bland District Historical Society publishes a newsletter three times a year. It's all about history with particular emphasis on history surrounding the Bland District. Its $20 to subscribe to 3 issues over a 12 month period and our next issue is due to be released in July. To express your interest in receiving this newsletter, please contact the museum via this page, email [email protected] or you can write to us at PO Box 299, West Wyalong NSW 2671.

09.01.2022 The Museum Murmurs is the newsletter of the Bland District Historical Society Inc. As some of you may know, the newsletter was put into recession in the last few months. There is a possibility the newsletter may continue should we be able to acquire enough interest from the public. The cost of the newsletter will be $20 plus $6.60 postage which includes delivery of all three issues per year. We would like to know if you would be interested to see the newsletter back up and running. If you have any ideas or contributions to put forward we'd love to hear from you.
