19.01.2022 The gorgeous, powder-blue foliage of sea kale (Crambe maritima) beginning to emerge. Native to the beaches of England, this reliably perennial species of kale is perfect for the kitchen garden, but easily beautiful enough to sneak into the garden elsewhere! It’s available from our website.

18.01.2022 A beautiful misty morning. I’ve always assumed the wonderful strappy foliage here is a Hemerocallis (daylily), possibly H. fulva? It has never flowered for me, but the foliage is such a winner that I don’t much care...

15.01.2022 Dicentra ‘Spring Morning’ playing nicely with grays and purples.

14.01.2022 The very beautiful Fritillaria pyrenaica. Grown from seed and proving to be quite easy in the garden.

13.01.2022 The magnificent Cardiocrinum giganteum var. yunnanense doing its thing. Often a bit shorter than C. giganteum but has lovely purple-flushed foliage in early spring to make up for it. We’ll have this guy for sale hopefully next year.

13.01.2022 We’re not done with the hard frosts yet... The invaluable Hylotelephium (formerly Sedum) Herbstfreude / Autumn Joy; still bolt upright after countless frosty mornings.

13.01.2022 The insanely elegant Fritillaria meleagris stealing the show, as it does every year. As beautiful as they are easy to grow, as far as Fritillarias go! They’ll be back in stock later in spring when they‘re dormant, but if you jump on the waitilist we’ll let you know when they’re ready to order.

12.01.2022 Some early spring hero foliage pics. Erythronium revolutum, Veratrum nigrum and Dicentra ‘Langtrees’.

11.01.2022 Always our first Lilium to flower, L. pomponium. Native to the Maritime Alps in France and Italy, it’s the harbinger of Lilium season; one of my favourite periods in our garden. We’ve got this guy and other Liliums for sale in the nursery, which is open 10-4 Friday to Monday. #wychwoodtasmania #wychwood #Wychwoodgarden #lilium #bulb #tasmania #gardeningaustralia #gardensofinstagram #rareplants #perennialgarden #gardensofinstagram #inmygarden @wychwoodtasmania

11.01.2022 I know we’re late to the party with this sentiment, but as former Melbournians our hearts absolutely go out to everyone up there dealing with COVID and lockdowns. We just wanted to say we think what you’re doing is amazing. As a token of our appreciation for how hard you’re battling to get this jerk under control we’ve made postage free for all Victorians for the next 7 days. It’s not much, I know, but hopefully it’s something. Keep fighting, you’re doing an awesome job!

09.01.2022 Sunrise through the hot bed...

03.01.2022 In full spring! Wychwood will be reopening on Friday 20th November. Our hours are Friday-Monday 10-4. Hope to see you soon!

03.01.2022 One of the greatest of low-maintenance grasses, the New Zealand native Anemanthele lessoniana dominating this (very) early spring scene. They’re available from our website.
