17.01.2022 Repost from our Auxiliary President Christine: If you missed the surprise at the Wye General on Sunday Rex has put together a video. It has been four years since the 2015 bushfires tore through our town of Wye River, destroying 109 houses and turning everyones lives upside down. It has been a long path to recovery, with the community grows stronger. The CFA, the Community Volunteers, Surf Club members and locals from the town stood together over the years. The song Stand by... me sums it up. Made on Australia Day 2020. This video is a tribute to communities hit by the 2019/20 bushfires and gives hope that they can recover and grow stronger as we have. ENJOY and please share with others that might enjoy. 16.01.2022 Campers are urged to obey the following campfire regulations, if it’s not a Total Fire Ban day: Use a purpose-built fireplace where provided, otherwise light... your campfire in a trench at least 30cm deep. Ensure the trench is no larger than one square metre in size and the area around the trench is cleared of flammable material up to three metres in all directions, including above the campfire. Branches and logs on your campfire must be less than one metre long keep your fire just big enough for warmth and cooking. Never leave a campfire alight or unattended. You must maintain a 50-metre line of sight of the campfire at all times. An adult must be present at all times when the campfire is alight. Ensure your campfire is completely extinguished using water, not soil. Under the Forest Act 1958, on-the-spot fines of $496 can be issued to people breaching campfire safety rules. The maximum penalty for lighting a fire during a Total Fire Ban is $39,652, two years in jail or both. There are locations where you can not light fires, these can include Parks and beaches. Always check for any restrictions applying to your specific area. There are heavy fines if you get caught. For more information on camping and campfire safety, go to https://www.ffm.vic.gov.au//fire-restrictions-and-regulati

16.01.2022 Well be sounding our siren at 5:40pm today. Please take time to remember the police officers tragically taken one week ago. Repost: At 5.40pm today, all CFA (Country Fire Authority) brigades will sound their fire alarms for four cycles as a tribute to our four fallen members who lost their lives at approximately that time one week ago.... We thank our firefighter friends for their support. In emergency services, we are one big family and we stand together. Always. See more

15.01.2022 Training done a slightly different way at Wye River CFA. We all need some time out from our day to day life. A great idea by one of our amazing firefighters to get out and go for a paddle. Some R&R time. Amazing how the ocean (& some mates) can be so good for the soul. ... Believe in Yourself Believe in Yourself And in your dream Though impossible things may seem Someday, somehow Youll get through To the goal you have in view Mountains fall and seas divide Before the one who in his stride, Takes a hard road day by day Sweeping obstacles away. Believe in yourself And in your plan Say not- I cannot- but, I can. The prizes of life we fall to win When we doubt the power within

02.01.2022 Work to deliver new strategic fuel breaks around townships along the Great Ocean Road is ramping up, with crews hitting the ground across the region from next w...eek. Building on the successful completion of demonstration breaks at Lorne, Aireys Inlet and Anglesea last year, works will expand to complete 35 kilometres (108 ha) of new fuel breaks. Crews will also be out undertaking important hazardous tree removal along parts of the Great Ocean Road and the Deans Marsh to Lorne Road. With the safe window to conduct planned burning getting smaller, practical, on-ground initiatives like this are vital to reducing risk in what is a very bushfire prone landscape. Signage and traffic management will be in place where required, so we ask locals and visitors to follow all advice to ensure their and our safety. Want to know more? Visit: https://bit.ly/3sZaVfY

01.01.2022 Our hearts break for the families & colleagues of the brave police officers who lost their lives last night in the line of duty. We salute everyone who goes to work to protect others and in doing so put themselves at risk.

01.01.2022 Alicia Gugele is a volunteer firefighter who has struggled with anxiety and depression for around 10 years. After losing her job due to COVID-19 and feeling as ...though her anxiety was getting on top of her, Alicia started to withdraw from brigade activities. Noticing that a few members had behaved in a similar way, Alicias brigade put a phone check-in system into place, checking up on their members to have a chat, see how theyre going and asking the important question are you okay?. For Alicia, it was the simple act of someone asking her if she was okay that made her realise she hadnt been feeling like herself. The brigade has been a huge support for me, said Alicia. Even if you ask someone that question and they answer they are okay even if theyre not - the question shows that you care about them and have noticed a change in them. Today, and every day, ask the question are you okay? CFA Wellbeing Support Line - 1800 959 232 Lifeline 13 11 14
