18.01.2022 Dog Poisoned by the Diffuser Saturday night I got home late and my dog didn't recognize me. Being a nanny I thought I woke him up and he was having a night terr...or. Sunday, he was still acting weird. I realized that I had been running my new diffuser and decided to turn it off. Sunday afternoon, he was feeling better. Today at work, my dog sitter said that he wouldn't come out from under the bed. It was very odd as he is a happy dog. I came from work early and again, he was very confused about who I was. So I took him to emergency vet. It turns out that the tea tree oil I was using in the diffuser is toxic for dogs. Thankfully the test showed that his liver was ok but we weren't out of the woods yet. He was given fluids under his skin to get the toxins out. The vet and the poison control are saying that they see these cases often now that the popularity of essential oil is growing. Please make sure that the essential oils you are burning are not toxic for your pets. 06.01.2022 Are you ready for a Dog Show? Our first two Virtual Dog Shows are coming up! We have two fantastic judging panels with three licensed Doberman Pinscher author...ities judging each show. Show #1 Kimberly Meredith, Steve Schorr and Nancy Christensen and Show #2 Theresa Mullen, Jay Richardson, and Darlene Young. You can enter one or both shows with the same video of your Dobe. The judges will use the Doberman Pinscher Club of America’s (DPCA) Top 20 scoresheet which can be scored to half-point fractions with a total of 100 points. The highest overall scoring Dobe will be the Best of Breed winner and if coming from the classes, they would be entitled to two prize awards. Judging will be based on the numerical points. Each participating Doberman Pinscher is individually evaluated by each judge using the scale of points (scoresheet). The dog with the highest Average Placement total is declared the winner. In the event the Average Placement scores result in a tie, there will be two (2) winners. AKC Champions of record must be shown in the Best of Breed Intersex class. All others will be in either the Dog class or Bitch class depending on gender. Winner’s will have the highest average score and Best of Winner’s will go to the highest point average between the male and female. Cash prizes will be awarded to Winner’s Dog, Winner’s Bitch, and Best of Breed (Intersex). To participate go to the Facebook group Virtual Dog Show based on AKC Standards and ask to join. You will need to submit your entry form, along with a video of your Dobe to be judged and the entry fee(s). Ashlee Claggett is our Ringmaster and will handle the details and organization of the shows. She will not compete in the virtual shows. The example individual exam video is posted in the group for you to follow as your guide when videoing as well as the entry form. The judges have approved the example video as their desired ring procedure for these two shows. Professional handlers are allowed to handle the Doberman Pinscher presented in the video if you wish since not everyone has the ability to show their own dogs. Judges will be told the age of each participant. Each individual dog video and the judge's scoresheets will be made viewable to the exhibitors and the group audience. We also allow foreign entries so uncropped Dobes should be minimally penalized, as ears are on the score sheet with just one point assigned. We feel this will be an excellent educational experience given the knowledge of our judges. The shows will be judged once a minimum of 30 Dobes have entered with a maximum of 50 Dobes per show. If this catches on we will expand to include other breeds. Let’s have some fun! See more
