The Lord Mayor and Civic Cabinet Listens Forum is expected to be rescheduled for the Wynnum RSL later this year

04.01.2022 A huge shout out to one of our favourite patrons Bill McFarlane! Below is written by his granddaughter Nelly Hilder: Those that remember ‘McFarlane Field’ at 388 Woodall Rd - currently where Bunnings is now - back in the day when lots of ladies from around Wynnum used to march for Wynnum Manly Marching Girls or play a bit of Monday or Thursday night basketball (there was also a BMX track) these sports were made happen by Bill McFarlane also know as ‘Mr Mac’ who was President ...of both sports clubs for many years, he spent endless hours preparing the grounds and making these sports playable for many women around the local area, he was well know for his kind personality and generosity along side his late wife Olly ‘Mrs Mac’. Over the years as we can see that land was sold off to make room for many housing units, family homes, a road and off course Bunnings. Prior to Bunnings been there the land was actually offered to and owned by the Wynnum Manly Meals on Wheels - Bunnings decided they wanted the land more though and bought out Meals on Wheels and landed themselves a nice big block of land to erect another Bunnings store. Wynnum Manly Meals on Wheels were later able to purchase a block of land at 880 Manly Road Wakerley whereby along with local council they have now built a state of the art building with an immaculate kitchen that caters and serves for many of our local elderly community. The land was also fit to make room for 6 brand new netball courts whereby many members of the local community come together and play a sport that they love and create new memories and friendships - brings back memories of McFarlane Field days So yesterday - after many years of persistence to make this happen Bill McFarlane received the recognition he deserves, after all his years of hard work, dedication and gratitude he officially had the park at 880 Manly Rd Wakerley (Wynnum Manly Meals on Wheels Venue) named after him - the unveiling of ‘Bill McFarlane Park’ such a proud moment It was a lovely ceremony and I would like to thank Councilor Ryan Murphy and Meals on Wheels for making this happen. Also if you care to take a look next time your entering through the front door at Bunnings on Wondall Rd - there is a plaque hanging on the wall to your right - have a read - also in recognition of Bill McFarlane.
