16.01.2022 BTAS State Basketball League - Grand Final Weekend Preview - Elphin Sports Centre - Launceston After a record number of teams in the State League for 2020, we a...re down to the Final Four in the Men and Women. We have four teams from the North-West and three teams from the South along with the BTAS High Performance Women who are looking to defend their title from 2019 the action will be red hot from the opening tip. Saturday 28 November Semi Finals 12noon Women BTAS High Performance (7-1) vs Wynyard Wildcats (5-3) Finishing the regular competition on top of the table, the BTAS High Performance team played beyond expectation again and have set themselves up nicely for another run at the title. The HP girls are quite balanced in their scoring and receive double figure scoring from Taya Webb, Zoe Crawford, Micah Simpson, Sharn Hayward and Charli Kay. Standing in their way is the only team that beat them the Wynyard Wildcats. The tactics of the young girls to stop the D’asia Chambers (28.8ppg) and outside bomber Emerson Wells (12.9ppg) will be a highlight of the contest and may determine the team that progresses to Sunday’s Grand Final. 2.15pm Women Penguin Blues (6-2) vs Burnie Tigers (5-3) The second Semi-Final will see a traditional North West rivalry add another chapter as the Penguin Blues battle the Burnie Tigers. Both Penguin and Burnie entered the competition as the two favourites to take it all and one of them will depart on Saturday. Penguin finished the competition in outright second with a 6-2 record and outscored opponents by 140 throughout the competition proving a handful on both ends of the floor. Meanwhile, Burnie have the firepower to throw a winning score with Ellie Collins 32.9ppg and Maria Payne 31ppg (most made 3’s in the league) leading the way. 4pm Men Penguin Blues (8-0) vs Kingborough-Huon Kings (5-3) Finishing runner up to Launceston last year, the Penguin Blues will be hungry to go one step further in 2020. A perfect 8-0 record through the competition, the Blues are favoured in this one with 6 players averaging double figures - Jacob Richards 22.8ppg, Mason Bragg 14.3ppg, Zach White 14.7ppg, Fraser Eaton 15.8ppg, Joel Beveridge 13.3ppg and Ryley Haywood 10ppg. Don’t count out the Kings however as they can get hot on any given night. Noah Straatsma at 26.8ppg has taken some major steps in his development and is now a force inside whilst Elijah Pawson at 24.1ppg can bomb away from the outside. 6.15pm Men Glenorchy Spartans (6-2) vs Hobart Phoenix (5-3) The last semi-final of Saturday night will be the preview of the upcoming 2020 Hobart Senior League Grand Final. The best two teams from the south will do battle in a massive grudge match. The offence of the Spartans will be sparked through the likes of Jack Stanwix (27.8ppg), Callum Barker (19.5ppg), Liam Smith (17.8ppg) and Phoenix Robey (14.5ppg) whilst Phoenix is led by Tiri Masunda (21.4ppg), BJ Radcliffe (16.1ppg), Callum Boucher (10.6ppg) and Luke Brown (9.6ppg). Sunday 29 November Grand Finals 12.30pm Women’s Grand Final. 2.30pm Men’s Grand Final.

12.01.2022 This will be a great addition to our club.

12.01.2022 The NWBU will revert back to a slightly more traditional schedule after the release of the 2021 roster. For the past two years, the start of the season has featured games on Tuesday and Friday nights for most of the opening two thirds of the season, before reverting back to the regular Tuesday night slot when the North-West Thunder's season commences. But after feedback from clubs and other associations whose players travel to compete, the NWBU has cut back the amount of doub...le-header weeks to only three, which in turn has lengthened the season by around three weeks. Basketball Tasmania North-West general manager Ben Richmond believes the move will benefit coaches and their players. "It provides teams more opportunities to train and helps with player management as the double-header weeks made things pretty hectic," Richmond said. "There are still three double-header weeks in the roster this season and we've also tried to schedule as many Friday night games as possible before NBL1 starts for the North-West Thunder. "We'll be finishing a few weeks later than last season, so we haven't extended the season by any huge length of time." Grand final night for the men and women has been penciled in for Friday, June 25, one week after the preliminary final. It provides teams more opportunities to train and helps with player management as the double-header weeks made things pretty hectic. However Richmond said that dates for both of those sets of games could be changed pending the final outcome of the NBL1 roster and the involvement of Tasmania's three clubs. "We're just waiting on the NBL1 to release their roster - they have a draft in place but they have a few COVID-related issues on the go they are dealing with before anything final comes out. "We'd love to have our grand finals on a Friday or even a Saturday night but we'll work in with NBL1 and if we have to go back to Tuesday night, then so be it. "Last year we had the grand final scheduled on the Friday of the June long weekend, which is the weekend all NBL1 clubs generally get off." Ahead of the Friday, February 5 tip-off, teams will gather the weekend before for the traditional Ulverstone pre-season tournament. "There has been a bit of player movement going on with some of the big-name local players, and with not as many American imports in the league, there will be some pretty handy drive-in players as well," Richmond said. "I think it will be a really good roster with a lot of evenness about it." Re-posted from Basketball Tas Page.
