24.01.2022 WYC came alive with a buzz today. New family's, excited kids and amazing food was all part of the day. Our Start Sailing and morning program attracted more boats than we can remember! 20 boats all full with kids and adults having fun on the water on a full tide. Then back onshore for Bigharts/Project O team incorporating Chef YYan's gourmet kitchen where lunch was served. Lunch was then followed by afternoon racing where sailors were challenged to two races offshore in 10 to 18 knot NW winds. Big thanks to all who assisted in making this day at WYC one to remember. Love what WYC offers its community.

24.01.2022 WYC held its official opening to the 2020 21 season with approximately 100 friends and members present to celebrate the forthcoming season officially opened by incoming Commodore Chris Symonds Three tiers of Government were represented and present with Mayor Robby Walsh, Ruth Forrest MLC, Roger Jaensch MP and Federal Member Gavin Pearce who spoke of a unique community culture at Wynyard Yacht Club driving its continuing success. Incoming Vice Commodore Jess Andrewartha was ab...le to share the recent success of the WYC being named as Club of the Year for Australian Sailing Tasmania along with Ela Klinger named as Volunteer of the Year and Chris Symonds named as Para Sailor of the year. All three winners will represent Tasmania at the national Awards to be announced next week. Many junior and youth sailors and paddlers then took to the water for a sail/ paddle past and river racing. A BBQ and celebratory cake was enjoyed at lunchtime before racing resumed off shore for the senior fleet where 12 yachts competed in light westerly winds on a large groundswell. In all a fantastic day for WYC showing great teamwork to deliver a successful day for all who look forward to the season ahead. See more

18.01.2022 Despite the rain, still plenty of action at the club today with the beginning of a start sailing course, and the fun yet competitive tulip cup. The tide & wind conditions made for some interesting racing in the river with the two races resulting in a 4-way split of 1st place. Thanks to Matt for the video, and all the volunteers who made today work so well.

18.01.2022 Big thanks to Greg Bird who travelled to fit our new Surf Radio to our vessel today.

14.01.2022 Saturday’s activities showcased sailing in Devonport at it’s finest. What a spectacle - the rigging lawns and pontoons in front of the Club were crowded with bo...ats and sailors getting ready on a glorious day with a 15 knot sailing breeze. (And in amongst this hive of activity our Dragons Abreast boat paddling ladies had a great morning as well.) Training for juniors and adults in the morning, a junior race in the river before lunch, briefing and a ‘sav’ at the bar, then 21 yachts of all description from along the coast competing in the Cock of the Mersey Race. The BBQ and presentation afterwards had the place buzzing with conversation. Thank you to the visitors for putting on such a spectacle, and the locals for the efforts in putting in the work. And the winner is..Mike Darby from Wynyard YC. (Full results will be posted separately shortly.) Our volunteers all of you including the ‘quiet achievers’ are appreciated thank you. A special shout out this week to our Treasurer Angela Marshall (who became a full-blooded dinghy sailor turtle on the way back in from the race course) and her children Cody, Jamieson, Sam and Maddison who put in two big days of effort. Family involvement at our Club is so vital to our recent growth. Hope to see you all out on the water again soon. See more

10.01.2022 Last Saturday was Leven yacht club's opening of the season & two refurbished launch ramps with all coastal and some northern clubs represented. The rains stopped for the official opening then closed in again when 22 yachts hit the water on a full tide for an out and back course from the clubhouse to a bouy 250 meters off the river mouth. The range of classes was huge with the A Class Cat leading all home. The race was won by an Elliot 7 trailer sailor by 1.5 minutes on corre...cted time. The Mayor, State MP and recently retired State MP then jumped onto yachts and joined the racing with the Mayor taking the hounours. The outgoing tide caused some of the smaller yachts grief but all otherwise had fun. Congratulations to Leven Yacht Club for a great day and we wish you the best for the season ahead. See more
