24.01.2022 Originally known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November and marks the signing of the peace agreement between Germany and the Allies that ended the Great War of 1914-1918. The Second World War began just 21 years later. Almost a million Australians served during that conflict that lasted close to six years. Armistice Day was then renamed Remembrance Day. Now Remembrance Day is a day to remember and honour all Australians who have served.... The First World War Armistice came into effect at 11am. To commemorate the occasion, we stop at 11am for one minute of silence to remember those who served during the First World War and those who have died in conflicts since. We will remember them. Lest we forget.

23.01.2022 At Wyong Neighbourhood Centre, we offer a program called Tackling Tobacco. It focuses on the health and financial benefits of quitting as well as discovering the reasons people smoke. Nicotine replacement products are provided free of charge to help facilitate quitting. The image below shows just how much smoking costs in terms of what else you could buy instead of a pack of smokes. The health cost is much, much more. If you’d like to discuss the tackling tobacco program with us, please call 43531750.

20.01.2022 COMMUNITY GARDEN... Our community garden is looking so good on this gorgeous spring day! Our staff and volunteers have worked really hard putting in the plants purchased under the funding received from the State Government Community Partnership Grants. Some were also donated by one of our staff members and Bunnings Tuggerah. Everyone has been working really hard to make the space beneficial to the community. Sadly, someone has been taking the opportunity to raid the plants over the past 2 weekends and has stolen plants & seedlings from the garden, this causes great distress to the volunteers and staff that have put the time into these spaces. If anyone has any information about the thieves, please contact our office on 4353 1750.

19.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day. Mental health is one of the most neglected areas of public health. Close to 1 billion people are living with a mental disorder..., 3 million people die every year from the harmful use of alcohol and one person dies every 40 seconds by suicide. And now, billions of people around the world have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is having a further impact on people’s mental health. There is always help available. Call Triple Zero (000) if immediate police response is required. This year, the World Health Organisation is focussing on calling for a massive scale-up in investment in mental health. 18.01.2022 We gathered as a team today to mark Remembrance Day and NAIDOC Week 2020. The staff shared stories of past & present Australian service men & women, including the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander troupes who have served and often received little recognition and in some cases were treated quite poorly post service. Recognition was given for the sacrifice made by these brave men and women to leave us with a better world. Wyong Neighbourhood Centre Inc. operates on Darkinjung land and acknowledges Elders past, present & emerging.

05.01.2022 Help needed!!! Our volunteer handyman is unable to perform his normal duties for a while and therefore we have a position vacant for someone able-bodied to do regular odd jobs around the centre. Needs to be able to operate a petrol leaf blower, brush cutter and lawn mower. ... In addition to this, be willing to do a daily sweep of the site to check for syringes and other hazards, put the council wheelie bins out on Tuesdays and bring them back in on Wednesdays. The the volunteer would also assist our Second-Bite driver to unload the donations from Coles and organise periodic trips to the tip for the cardboard and other large rubbish that accumulates. Daily garden maintenance in the community garden is also among the tasks our handyman usually assists with. This role is ideal for someone with a 15 hour a week Centrelink mutual obligation. Will need Working-With-Children Check and a police check may be required. Volunteers are treated like valued staff members at Wyong Neighbourhood Centre. A trial period to ensure volunteers are a good fit for the centre is important. A full induction to the site will be provided.
