17.01.2022 A little mini photo shoot of Xai with her watermelons and rice. Not entirely sure how the rice will go this year, but fingers crossed that we see good results. It’s also been two years since we have started growing watermelons but by far, 2020-2021 has shown the best fruition. We are absolutely new to this so knowing when they are ready to pick is still a challenge. If anyone has any tips or tricks about growing or harvesting watermelons we are all ears AND the last image ...may not look very appetising but my goodness it’s one of the best watermelons we have had, EVER, in our lives. I’m not just saying this because we grow them but looks can be deceiving and this watermelon trumps the ones I have had from supermarkets. I’m pretty picky with my watermelons too. Does anyone else take their fruit seriously? 03.01.2022 A beautiful day like today calls for a papaya salad / som tum. The main ingredient used, however, is not papaya BUT...drum roll please...white carrots! It makes for an excellent substitute especially when papaya is hard to come by down here. The star of this dish is not even the carrots but our very own snake beans and cherry tomatoes. Add some kang kong on the side and you’re pretty much set! Of course, sticky rice is a bonus too ... 03.01.2022 It’s been a few years since we’ve been able to grow egg plants but every year we are so happy to see them again. They are absolutely thriving at the moment and thank goodness we have our hot houses to be able to grow this delicious produce. I’m not sure if anyone has tried but I love to put egg plants into my lasagne.
