25.01.2022 In 2020 the Kostka Early Years Art show will be virtual. This year’s exhibition of art will celebrate art pieces created by the students mostly during their remote learning. Using resources that were readily available the students created art works that expressed imagination and creativity whilst further developing their Visual Arts skills. Creating Art pieces allowed the students to express themselves and to develop other skills like resilience, grit, and a growth mindset. ... Connected will be showcased in an online Exhibition using the program, ‘Padlet’. This will enable you to view your child’s, and their peers', art pieces. https://xaviergallery.padlet.org/eleonoraluiset/KHEYART2020

16.01.2022 What a year 2020 has been! We started the year with the tragedy of the bushfires in Victoria and before we had a chance to recover, the world found itself in the midst of a global pandemic. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Jesuit Social Services Dinner at the MCG was cancelled at the very last minute and then the Palm Sunday March was moved to an online event. We were in the preparing and organising stage for our XSJN Dinner in support of JRS and then had to make the ...Continue reading

15.01.2022 We are delighted to announce that Mr Matthew Egan has been appointed to a new role here at the College as Head of Football (AFL). Over the past months, we have embarked on a thorough search and have been overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of applicants. The role is to lead all aspects and levels of our Football program, assisting all players and coaches in what is widely acknowledged as a signature sport at Xavier. Matt joins us from Melbourne Football Club where he ha...s been the Head of Development for the past four years. Although being retained by the club through the recent period of restructure across the AFL industry, we are delighted that Matt has chosen to join the Xavier community and our football program. Prior to his time with the Demons, he worked at Essendon Football Club as an Assistant Coach from 2012-2016, including an interim period as Head Coach. Matt began his coaching career as a development coach at Geelong Football Club post his retirement from AFL football. He was a successful AFL player in his own right having played 59 games for Geelong from 2005-2007. He was named in the All-Australian team at centre-half back in 2007, before a fractured navicular bone prematurely ended his career. Interestingly, Matt took up the game of Football late in his development after having been a promising highranking junior tennis player and journeyed on the international circuit. We warmly welcome Matt, his wife Bianca and four young children to our Xavier Family. He commences this Monday 30 November and we trust you will also extend to him a warm Xavier welcome.

10.01.2022 At the very end of this extraordinary pandemic year of disruption and dislocation, at a time when uplifting stories seem to hold even deeper value, it is fitting to be able to announce the 2020 Xaverian Award. The Xaverian Award is for a past student of the College who has shown a deep commitment to the ideals of St Ignatius of Loyola, primarily through a generosity of spirit manifested in a dedication to making a difference in the wider community through compassion, competen...ce and conscience. With the Rector, Fr Chris Middleton SJ, it is my pleasure to announce to the Xavier College community that the 2020 Xaverian Award has been awarded to the late Dr Peter Salama (OX 1986). In a year of global pandemic through the COVID-19 virus, it is especially fitting that Peter is recognised for his exceptional lifetime’s work in global health a true Ignatian life spent in the service of others seeking to make a difference throughout the world. Award accepted by his mother Vivian Salama.

02.01.2022 Celebrating the learning of Italian Language at Xavier College. During term 3, the Early Years celebrated their First Virtual Italian Day. With great success! This year was the 12th annual Italian language celebration day. Although this year varied greatly from our previous Italian day celebrations, 2020 allowed the students and families to engage more in the cultural and family connection of Italian language learning. All of the students had a fabulous time engaging in many ...different Italian and cultural experiences which included drawing, music, dance, cooking and art. An interactive Italian language booklet was created for the students to access at home with their families. The booklet included video links enabling the students to participate in learning how to draw the Colosseum or the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The students learnt how to create pizza dough and make their own pizza to share with their family. Students went back in time to the Roman era to learn interesting facts about the Roman times and the significance of the Gondola as well as the history of the Tarantella dance. There were also many art and craft opportunities with students creating Venetian masks, flags, pasta art and creating a 3D version of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. During remote class times via MS TEAMS, students dressed up in costume and shared their experiences, enjoying an Italian meal prepared with their family. Learning Italian in the Early Years opens students up to a new world of culture and discernment. The 2020 Early Years Virtual Italian Day was a great opportunity for connection. The students were able to connect with each other and include their families in their celebration. Students had the opportunity to experience the uniqueness of Italian Language learning whilst embracing the new world of remote learning.
