23.01.2022 We were out and about this morning for some more course checking. Afterward, we heard that there is likely to be more clamping down of activities. We are still hoping we can continue with the Donny Dash in May. We will keep you all updated with any progress, both positive or negative (if negative, all entries will be refunded). Onto the positives, we explored some more interesting places this morning. Looks like some people misread their car sat-nav badly and ended up in the drink. Also, on the positives side, we are proud to be one the races for the inaugural A2 Adventure Race Series (Qld). Please have a look at the web site for details. www.adventure2series.com
22.01.2022 Out exploring the area for the upcoming Donnybrook Dash. Hot, sweaty and dirty. Should be a bit cooler come race day. Finished off with some good burgers and sangas from the local takeaway. Race entry via our web page www.xciteadventureracing.com.au
22.01.2022 This morning, we were out riding about in the forests of Donnybrook under beautiful blue skies (although they were hidden by grey clouds and rain). We rode into some wet areas, along some nice gravel surfaces, soft sand, and the very odd section of old asphalt surface. There is some water lying around, which is great to see. Plenty of riding options for the 2020 Donnybrook Dash, and we even found some (smallish) hills. Certainly some area to cover around here. Entry to this years Dash is via the link below. https://xciteadventureracing.com.au/upcoming-events/
22.01.2022 Fun night nav races by Sunshine Orienteers. Next one at Tewantin.
22.01.2022 Hi All, As expected, due to the current Coronavirus health crisis, we have had to cancel our inaugural Doonybrook Dash race. All entries will be refunded. At this stage, we are looking at dates for later in the year, however, it looks like the calendar is becoming over-crowded and we may re-set for next year. The location and the race venue we had sorted out were super, and we are looking forward to setting this race up in the future. We hope you are all well and continue to maintain safe practices when out and about.
20.01.2022 Can’t compete in any races but can still get out and about with your teammate (in these days, it helps if that teammate is your wife). We have had a few days riding around our local patch and have seen some interesting sights. Keep up the training and we look forward to kicking things off again later in the year or next year.
20.01.2022 Team Xcite has done another run around the streets of Brisbane this evening as part of the 3hr Urban Rogue Rogaine race. This years edition was held in a sauna, or at least that is what the first 1.5hrs felt. We had a fun race round the city including seeing some dodgy characters shooting up in a park (we really did see the syringe before injection time); a lovely near face plant by Darryn (just caught it in time and have some cuts and bruises to show); seen some lovely lights in the Roma St parklands; some cats, possibly feral but thankfully they didn’t attack us; and we freaked out a lot of people running around with headlights. In the end we covered about 18km, and came around 20th of 60 odd teams, and 2nd in the mixed oldies category. Thanks Liam of Rogue Adventure, and all the crew.
18.01.2022 Finally we were able to get out and race on the weekend. After all the COVID problems and race delays, or cancellations, it felt good to be out amongst it again. Teams Xcite had two teams racing in the Maximum Adventure Race at Wildhorse Mountain. Team Xcite AR were joined by Team Xcite 2 (Tony Mayer and Adam Woods). As we were both on the same course, although 6 minutes apart on start time, it was game on. We started off poorly with a disastrous route to CP1 meeting a sea ...of lantana that wasn’t on the map. From that, we completed the foot Rogaine comfortably then onto the bikes. Xcite 2 by this stage were travelling well and caught up to us. Recent rain made the course a big boggy which adds to the fun. After some fast riding it was off to another run leg. We must remember to practice those brick sessions (or at least do some). Both teams ticked off the bonus run CP before completing the run leg then back to the bikes. This bike leg headed off to the kayak leg, which was about 3km long. This leg gave us the highlight of the race, which comprised a camper on the river bank cheering everyone whilst decked out nothing more than a pair of mighty whitey underpants that your grandfather would wear and a fishing top. Those undies were also pulled up near his armpits. This was all rather disturbing as we had to pass him on the way out and back. Anyway, his cheering seemed to lift our spirits. By the end of the kayak leg Xcite 2 had a slight advantage on us and were looking strong, which drove us on to riding the final bike leg as hard as we could. After a couple of sneaky route choices, we ended up together, although as we started 6 mins before then we knew we had to grab the bonus CPs (with the time bonus) to draw level. We rode like demons, in the wrong direction, then turned around and headed on the correct route to those CPs. We picked them up and ended up drawing more or less level with the Xcite 2 team. Both teams raced well and achieved good results. See more
18.01.2022 Xcite AR took on the 4hr Bayside Paddlegaine at Cabbage Tree Point yesterday. For those who don’t know where Cabbage Tree Point is (and that included me), it is just to the north of the Gold Coast. A lovely little coastal hamlet. This race had it all, open waters, creeks, small islands. The day started off with flat water and no wind. Much better than the 25kn winds predicted. We picked a route that would take about 20k or thereabouts, as long as we didn’t get lost. At the ...start we headed off in the same direction as about 40 of the 50 boats in the race. Hit the first couple of easy checkpoints. Then the fun started. We turned around a corner of a small island and found the wind. Still not 25kn but getting up there. Approaching CP31 we heard some racers shouting about about wasps and we had a bit of a chuckle (we can be a bit evil at times). We weren’t chuckling when we got to the CP. Little black wasps were stoutly defending the CP against all intruders. I got hit on the arms and forehead, which caused me to smack my prescription sunglasses off trying to hit one of the blighters. Unbeknownst to me, my glasses don’t float. As Fi was getting whacked we quickly checked off, left the glasses at the bottom of the ocean, and bolted through knee high water. This is when I tripped and fell into the water, causing hysterical laughter from my understanding teammate. Water was very cooling though. Fi must have thought so, as she then fell over in the same place. Of course, I wasn’t allowed to laugh. Plowing on, we came across the predicted 25kn winds which were causing some nice wind wave runners. We found ourselves heading sideways a few times but didn’t capsize, which we heard a few people did manage to do. At some stage around the middle of the race, the wind eased up to be replaced by a downpour. As we were in calm waters it felt very refreshing. Out in the more open waters it may have felt a bit different. We were picking up CPs quite comfortably, more so than one team we came across who had broken their rudder pedal. That would have made some hard paddling/steering heading into the wind. We had finished all but one of the 16 CPs we marked out on our route, with about 35min to go. We tossed up whether to head back upstream to grab one more 40 pointer or get the final 10 pointer and head back to the finish. We decided the easy way, grab the 10 pointer and head back. In the wash up, we ended on 540pts, which gave us 8th place overall and 2nd in mixed veterans. Many competitors ended up with penalties for exceeding the 4hr mark, as it was very hard pushing back against the strong wind or tide. I also had someone find and return my glasses. Thanks again to Adam and his group of volunteers, and the Qld Rogaine Assoc. Well done to all teams for having a crack out in those conditions.
14.01.2022 2020, what a year! Things started off well with a Paddlegaine at Ormeau held by the Queensland Rogaine Association (QRA) in January, then everything went to custard with COVID19. Events were postponed or dropped (such as our own Donnybrook Dash race), then when things looked rosier, events were re-scheduled. Then delayed again, then thankfully on again. Once things got back to some semblance of normality, teams from Xcite were able to race in the Wildhorse Mtn Adventure Ra...ce, Wildfire Raid 6hr at Lake Manchester, Yarrabilby Hop 8hr rogaine, and finally, the Granite Belt Duo 6hr foot (Girraween National Park) and mtb (Passchendaele) rogaines. Unfortunately, due to work commitments we were unable to suit up for the Rogue Raid 24hr race. To finish the year off, we ran around the streets of Brisbane for the 3hr Urban Rogue (we went for more hills this year not a good plan). We had some good races, and some maybe not so good. Over some of the races we teamed up with Adam & Katina Woods and Tony Mayer coming along to provide good company and humour, as well as additional cunning and guile. There was laughter, and some tears (particularly when we were slogging around in the heat at Yarrabilba and getting confused in the boulders at Girraween). As usual, we visited some awesome race locations, highlights being the paddle leg of the Wildfire race; views from hilltops at Yarrabilba; and Girraween National Park (although we will all be happy not to see another giant boulder for a while). The ride through Passchendaele National Park was also a pleasant surprise. We hope that you all had a great end to the year and looking forward to 2021. Although we were disappointed not to have been able to hold our race this year, we did do a lot of background work, and are very please to announce that we will be holding the Donnybrook Dash 6hr race in 2021. The race will be held in the pleasant fishing village of Donnybrook (as the race name suggests), located between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Our planned date for the race is Saturday 5 June. The race will again be a rogaine or points style race, with kayaking in the Pumicestone Passage, running/trekking through urban and forested areas, and riding through pine forests with Glasshouse Mountains in the background. Due to the large expanse of possible course options we have increased the race duration to 6 hours from our previously held 3 hour races. Anyone who has competed in the Dam Dash will be familiar with the format. Entries will open early February. We will also be providing further announcements and updates regarding this race over the next few months so stay tuned. See more
11.01.2022 For anyone who has completed the Dam Dash, this will be a great step up. There is a 3, 6 and 12hr race. Similar format as the Dash. We are doing the 12hr.
07.01.2022 We are pleased to announce that entries are open for the upcoming 6 hour Donnybrook Dash Adventure Race on 24 May 2020. Entries are $160 per team (incl GST). Enter via our website below. Further details will be provided closer to race date. http://xciteadventureracing.com.au/upcoming-events/
06.01.2022 6hr Mitchie Madness Metrogaine.
01.01.2022 We are pleased to announce our new race for 2020, named The Donny Dash. Due to planned works at the Ewan Maddock Dam next year resulting in no water access, we have had to find a new setting for the race. The Donny Dash will be held on Sunday 24 May 2020 at the coastal township of Donnybrook to the south of the Sunshine Coast. This race will be a similar rogaine style format to previous races, however we have increased the race duration to 6 hours to allow us to utilise e...verything this area has to offer. Kayaking will take place in rivers and estuaries; mountain biking through open country roads and forestry areas; and running in a mix of urban and rural settings. This area allows for many navigational decisions to be made by competitors, as well as testing fitness and abilities across the various disciplines. Entries will be opened soon. See more
