25.01.2022 #2: Tricks of the eye My EP has songs with complex and sometimes dark themes on it. This one is the opposite of that. :) It's a simple song about how love can be scary- knowing that it's a risk but also knowing that its worth the risk. I did also want to play around with some simple sweet, dreampoppy guitar chords and harmonies. There's not a lot else to it, but sometimes that's all you need, anyway

23.01.2022 At Rocks Laneway today :)

12.01.2022 Song #1.) Pale, Blue Indifference: This song is written from the perspective of being in a relationship with a person who in the beginning seems warm and loving, but over time becomes abusive. It focuses on the moment when a certain persons eyes first register a coldness to them that you've never seen before. The song is also addressing the victim blaming words and attitudes that a lot of people have when witnessing another person being in a toxic relationship- such as 'why d...id they choose to be with them, why don't they just leave, why do they allow themselves to be treated that way etc?'. Whereas no-one actually goes into something with the desire to be hurt and treated with disrespect and often it creeps in subtly at first, with the situation worsening over time until the line is well and truly crossed. The song ends recognising the courage and bravery it takes for a person to take control back over their life. 07.01.2022 Cold as steel, cold as ice, how I feel, In your eyes Pale blue eyes, such a cold steel grey, winter skies They freeze, the warmth drains out completely, fades like the daylight Pale blue indifference, thinly veiled disguise Never would believe they would turn completely, right before my eyes... They say there must’ve been a wilful strain of doubt Some kind of strange payoff leaves me lost without But unless you’ve ever been, you’ve only seen it from the outside, and you know nothing about it IT’S A COLD, STILL, INVISIBLE LINE, SUCH A COLD, STEEL, INVISIBLE LINE (x2) Pale blue eyes, such a cold steel grey, winter skies They freeze, the warmth drains out completely, fades like the daylight Pale blue indifference, thinly veiled disguise Never would believe he would turn completely, right before my eyes You Say I must’ve seen it coming, but I choose to ignore would’ve helped to have a measure of what to be looking for Cause, it crept up from behind, and took me by surprise Left me winded on the side with my lungs on fire SUCH A COLD, STILL, INVISIBLE LINE , IT’S A COLD, STEEL, INVISIBLE LINE IT WAS CROSSED BEFORE I EVER SAW THE SIGN x2 Took so much from me, things you never even needed- Just because you could,( just because you could) Left me broken down and reduced to a shadow of, The person that I was, to begin with Took so much from me, things you never had a right to- Just because you could,( just because you could) Left me broken down and reduced to a shadow ,but, The person that I am, is bringing her back FROM A COLD, STILL, INVISIBLE LINE , SUCH A COLD, STEEL, INVISIBLE LINE THAT WAS CROSSED BEFORE I EVER SAW THE SIGN x2-4 She’s bringing her back

06.01.2022 Song #4: Running Circles around. Musically, it all started with me looping a simple trip hop beat and guitar riff before layering flute over the top of it and then I went from there. (I later ditched the flute on this recording but like how there are different variations of the song). Reminiscent of late 90s trip hop, this one is strays into dark dystopian territory with a witchy feel and sense of foreboding. Lyrically, the spark for this song came from when school students ...were striking over environmental issues and the line "Right before our children's eyes, futures stolen in plain sight " came about from hearing Greta Thunberg speak about it before the UN. I wanted to make the vocals almost singsong to reflect the way in our society we like to bury our heads in the sand and act as though the problems don't exist = magical thinking. All the while chasing things that are ultimately meaningless if we haven't got a future planet to enjoy them in. Fully knowing that we all have our part to play in the problem and the solution. 01.01.2022 #4): Highway 540 This song is about growing up in a close-knit community with a very fixed belief system and walking away from that because I didn't believe in it anymore. When this happened I found myself caught in a bit of a crossroads and feeling lost. It wasn't a matter of just adapting my existing life to suit my new beliefs, I basically felt I needed to burn my bridges to my old life and start a new one entirely- new friends, new beliefs and values, new ideas, new dream...s for the future. It's a scary place to be in hanging over the edge of the unknown and that looks different to everyone, but I think most of us have felt that feeling in one way or another. My resulting years were a push and pull between caring too much and not caring at all, Letting everything go and clinging to whatever was there for dear life and this is the song I wrote about it See more
