25.01.2022 With COVID-19 restrictions and state border closures; Work Placements almost were not a possibility for our students in our cross border communities. Xavier Hig...h School Information Technology students rounded off a difficult year on a good note with taking part in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Virtual IT Work Placement. One of the students, Ivy, received some amazing feedback from AWS, and produced one of the top project ideas for the program, being asked by Amazon Web Services Mentors to pitch her idea to all the work placement attendees across the state on the last day. Ivy said Through this program, I now feel more confident in the workforce and what I can offer an Employer. Thank you for the opportunity! COMPACT Inc. Executive Officer, Megan Mulrooney, stated ‘this is a significant contribution made by 50 AWS mentors and an important investment in their workforce of the future. For students living in regional, rural and remote areas of NSW it is difficult to ‘put themselves into the picture’ of a cutting edge career in ICT and AI. Through this project, AWS have connected students with industry professionals, no matter their location, and showcased their industry skills, shared their expertise and provided contemporary AWS training. The virtual work placement project has allowed country kids to experience first-hand the extensive and exciting possibilities that are available to them across the globe in an ICT career. 09.01.2022 An exciting new partnership developed between Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Workplace Learning Network (WLN) recently gave 275 ICT students across NSW from ...36 cross sector schools with the opportunity to take part in a Virtual ICT Work Placement. This opportunity enabled COMPACT students in the Riverina Murray region of NSW to engage in a quality, meaningful ‘virtual ‘ work placement, which until that time had been impossible by COVID-19 pandemic, cross border lockdowns and the sheer tyranny of distance. . This collaboration saw students from Kildare Catholic College in #WaggaWagga, St Paul's College - Walla Walla Australia in #WallaWalla and Xavier High School in #Albury, working in teams with AWS Mentors; World Leaders in Cloud Computing Technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Using AI Technology, students with the guidance of their mentors developed a Chatbot that simulates human conversation through text or voice command.
