20.01.2022 ONE AVON | Structural & Construction Engineering A $75m residential development in the heart of Sydney’s North Shore, this project infused the rich heritage of Pymble into modern residential lifestyle. Introducing modular construction techniques, including the use of propriety formed vertical elements, our solutions reduced project costs and construction program duration. #constructionengineering #structuralengineering #sydney #engineersaustralia #residentialdevelopment #buildingandconstruction #OneAvon #northshoresydney #pymble #heritagebuilding

19.01.2022 BEYOND | Structural, Civil, Digital & Construction Engineering Beyond is a mixed-use, multi-rise project consisting of 556 residential units, a 3,445sqm supermarket, and 900sqm retail space over four towers, one standing at 22-storeys high. Our construction planning and sequencing of the four towers minimised construction material use and maximised construction efficiency, resulting in significant savings and reducing the overall 2 to 3 year construction program by at least 6 months. #xavierknight #constructionengineering #structuralengineering #civilengineering #mixedusedevelopment #innovation #valueengineering

14.01.2022 Congratulations to our friends at Chalouhi and Growthbuilt on "breaking ground" last week at this Anglicare Sydney project. We're proud to have worked with the team, delivering an optimised, value-engineered design for the shoring wall. https://www.linkedin.com//adam-ashcroft-b862009_constructi

11.01.2022 Even in a busy office, it is important to take pause and nurture our wellbeing. Our 2020 Yoga Program was kicked off last week with a rooftop class offered to our team during lunch. #wellbeing #workplacewellness #workplacewellbeing #yoga #yogaatwork #engineers #lifexmultiplied #xavierknight

11.01.2022 "Knowledge is power, but enthusiasm pulls the switch." Ivern Ball | We've missed running our own Technical Insights seminars during COVID isolation, but it is great to see free online learning initiatives in the industry. Learn about finite element analysis of reinforced concrete structures with Association of Consulting Structural Engineers NSW and Emil Jankulovski. June 2 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm - Free! 09.01.2022 THE MILK FACTORY | Structural & Civil Engineering A current project for the restoration of a heritage milk factory in Camden. Bringing it back to its original glory, with the addition of a two-storey building providing a new retail precinct to the community. Taking on this $1 million over budget challenge, we value-engineered the project. Our team developed an alternative structural solution, reducing the number of piled foundations by over 100, saving 25% in suspended slab concrete and reinforcement material. We also presented an alternative drainage strategy, leveraging existing infrastructure, reducing costs and limiting disruption to the public. Thinking a little differently, our solutions enable this project to come to life. #valueengineering #structuralengineering #civilengineering

09.01.2022 TECHNICAL INSIGHTS | Punching shear failure is the brittle failure of reinforced concrete slabs under combined axial and bending stresses nearby a supporting column. The failure is characterised by severe cracking of the slab along at the column support which eventually leads to the column essentially punching through the slab. The nature of these failures has been observed in several global occurrences such as the infamous St-Laurent Carpark collapse in 2008, the 1997 Pipe...rs Row Park in the UK (featured in images below) and several other cases observed in the 1985 Mexico earthquake. In a recent Technical Insights session, our team explored the different approaches for estimating the punching shear capacity of floor slabs and how they compare to the approach adopted in the Australian standard. They deepened their understanding of Australian Standard torsion strip methods and the unique underlying principles for estimating punching shear strength and slab reinforcement. Experimental test results show a considerable scattering of the punching shear strength in slabs when using this method, which can justify conservative approaches in the design of critical slabs to prevent punching shear failures.
