25.01.2022 Duct tape (cloth tape) Challenge. We are revealing one of our challenges to all our XRACE families. Somewhere out on course, your team must make a phone holder out of cloth tape like in the photo. Easier said than done. There is so much more to cloth tape then holding together Grandpa's Holden. You can make anything you like out of duct tape, once you know how to make the "fabric". With this heads up, tell your kids to get on Youtube and see how to make all sorts of different items out of cloth tape. Here's hoping the weather plays ball and we get this challenge away.

24.01.2022 Weather advisory for XRACE Gold Coast. A weather advisory statement is in place for XRACE Gold Coast, dated Saturday, race morning at 7 AM. This weather advisory replaces any previous communication. Regardless of what the weather does - these changes will remain in place. CRAZY STORY BUT TRUE We have dodged the weather for 22 consecutive XRACE events. Our last full wet event was Wellington, New Zealand in February 2017 and here is where the story gets good. It was categorical...ly one of the most fun events our XRACE families have ever had. Know it sounds crazy but trust us, doing events like XRACE in the rain are certainly memorable. Our tip is simple. Work out your clothing, bring along an empty wet bag and pack replacement clothes, undies and flip-flops and change straight after the event. WE ARE 100% GREEN FOR GO At XRACE, when it rains we all get wet. We are 100% set to go. Your waves remained completely unchanged. Please go through your prerace schedule is per your initial planning. NIPPERS The Nippers go-ahead completely unchanged at 9:40 AM. CHALLENGES SWITCHED OUT We have no choice but to modify two of the 10 challenges that are out on course. These challenges are not suitable with the level of rain forecast and a decision has been made to replace them with challenges more suited for the weather conditions. DUCTAGAMI CHALLENGE This challenge has been switched out for another, weather suitable challenge. For the diehards that would like to make their cloth tape phone cases - we will be ductagami workshops under shelter at the finish line. This is post-race and not part of your ten timed challenges. COURSE The course will remain the same the only changes will be the switch out of two of the 10 challenges. We do anticipate the race to be slightly faster than normal. SHORTENED PRIZE-GIVING + SPOT PRIZES To stay or go is up to you. We will be holding a prize-giving where we will hand out the winners of the age-groups and overall XRACE champion trophy for the fastest team. We will be posting results live to our website every five minutes this way, you can check in and see how well your team went and whether you want to hang around for the age group awards. So just confirm: AGE GROUP PRIZEGIVING We will still be holding an AGE GROUP prizegiving. This will take place at 11:30 AM. Results will be posted every 5 minutes after the first finisher. Results will be on www.xrace.com.au SPOT PRIZES Spot Prizes will be handed out at random as you cross the finish line. We will NOT be handing out spot prizes at the prize-giving. FINALLY Like you, we are disappointed about the weather but make absolutely no apologies. At XRACE, we are not made of sugar. See you at the start line.

22.01.2022 In a weekend of very heavy hearts, one beautiful moment filled mine. It was Palmerston North and teams had just completed their penultimate challenge - the water run. It was a dad teaming up with his 10 or 11 year old daughter and here is the transcript of their very one-sided conversation. Dad. Slow down. We cant continue unless we put our shoes on.... Have you got this? She continued. Put the challenge cards down, Ill sort them. There was one teammate in total control and it wasnt the father. For some reason, dad was genuinely struggling to put his shoes on. She continued in a most calm and gentle tone. You can do this dad. Mercifully for the daughter, dad finally managed to shoe his feet and then putting them to good work, sprinting off to the dance challenge. That was it. That was the moment - one that almost all Kiwi dads with daughters can relate to a strong daughter watching after dad. This father daughter team were fresh immigrants to New Zealand and just quietly, anonymously, getting on with the task of becoming XRACERS. Her dad has chosen the perfect country to raise his beautiful daughter and I was in such awe of her strength and love towards her dad. A strength she had in passing, unwittingly shared with me. Her timing could not have been more perfect. Heres to all of us. Shane Hooks NZHL XRACE Series.

13.01.2022 Being a dad doesnt come easy. XRACE began years before the first-ever family teams pulled on a red shirt way back in 2013. We began with this simple idea how do you create an event that strengthens the bond between a father and son. That was it. That was the crazy idea that started it all....Continue reading

11.01.2022 We would like to share a special story of Alix Mcgunness. She writes about her XRACE yesterday in Leeds, racing alongside her 6-year-old son, Lukas. "To say I am proud of Lukas is an understatement. I am bursting with pride, today my boy and Maisie completed the XRACE and he has the medal to prove it. Not only that, he and Maisie have raised funds to help Pendle Dogs in need. Thank you to everyone that sponsored him." She continues.... "When we found out that Lukas had cerebral palsy, we had no idea what to expect other then that it affects his entire body and he will need a wheelchair and ongoing treatment for the rest of his life." "I made a promise to Lukas that I would never ever let him miss out on anything he wanted to do." At the weekend just gone, in Leeds (UK) alongside her sidekick, Lukas' grandmother, these two super women showed just how strong a mothers (and grandmothers) love really is. "Grandma and I pushed Lukas around as fast as we could and his determination was inspirational. He really shows you that anything is possible if you believe in yourself. I am incredibly lucky to be able to share my life with such an amazing young man. Now, pass me the wine I am knackered." Alex, there is a very large XRACE family out there reading this message right right now, other XRACE families from the Netherlands, The Aussies, the Brits and the Kiwis. On behalf of all these families we say Lukas isn't the only inspiration in this story - so too are Super Mum Alix and Super Nan. Go grab that bottle of vino, you are also our heros. The XRACE team.

04.01.2022 A square peg in a round hole. How tough must it be for a mum to openly describe her eight-year-old daughter as a square peg in a round hole. Rebecca Taylor has shared with us her family story of ongoing struggles and as you will see, successes along the way. Her daughter, Zara is now nine years old and it is fair to say she struggles in the classroom - diagnosed with a combination of dyslexic conditions and ADHD Rebecca tells us Zara always feels like a square peg in a round... hole. She continues. We have tried all sorts of team sports, but the rules and co-ordination required often meant that she gets left out, she doesnt get the ball passed to her, she doesnt get picked but she loves being active and has always wanted to take something in to her classroom news at school! Giving up wasnt an option for the Taylor family and after trying many different sports, found that running was the perfect outlet for their hyperactive daughter, it was just one foot in front of the other she describes. After seeing the advertisement for her local XRACE, Rebecca decided that without any expectations, this mother-daughter team would have a crack at our crazy race - not knowing what challenges lay around the corner for her daughter that already faces enough challenges on a daily basis. Straightaway it was Mum struggling to keep up with her super active daughter, I will let Rebecca continue. She pushed me all the way around the course, it was amazing. She was motivated, engaged and so excited to be part of a big event. The challenges were the toughest part for Zara - having challenges that involved memory, coordination and gross motor skills. After receiving this email from Rebecca, outlaying all the difficulties Zara struggles with and having to Google terms like dysgraphia (inability to write coherently) and dyscalculia (difficulty in making arithmetical calculations), I will be honest and say there was a twist to the email we weren't expecting. Anyway, Zara went really hard and ended up taking out the champion in the eight-year-old category! Brilliant. Just brilliant. XRACE is fiercely inclusive. The best tonic for the Taylor family is to stand on the start line, just like any other family without a disability beginning with "dys" - just another mum and daughter team at XRACE. Rebecca tells us, "I want to thank everyone at XRACE. This day had a huge impact on my little girl. The confidence and finding an activity that works for her on the way SHE works is awesome. I really want to compliment your team on hosting such a nice, relaxed, friendly event that gives a place to everyone to join in. I bet Zaras age-group winning medal would have made for great news at school that Monday. The XRACE team.

03.01.2022 BEAT THE PRICE RISE ON SUNDAY NIGHT. It's time to lock in the best price right now. The price of a ticket for your XRACE team goes up by $10 per team this Sunday at midnight. Sign up now and secure your place. WWW.XRACE.COM.AU

03.01.2022 Sydney - advisory. Water, inhalers and changing races. Hi all. Perfect weather tomorrow but we suggest asthmatics double-check they have their inhalers with them at all times. The weather forecast includes possible smoke haze and a high of 26 in the afternoon. If you want to switch between races, morning to afternoon or afternoon to morning, all good to go. Just come down, grab your shirts and transponders and go in the wave you were set down to go in. So if you were in WAVE ...16 in the afternoon session, go in WAVE 16 in the morning session and visa versa. And. Tip 1. Place a couple of water bottles in the freezer tonight and grab them before you go. They will be perfect on race day. Tip 2. We don't provide paper cups at the finish line, only the facility to fill your bottles. Tip 3. If you use an inhaler, pack it and bring it. Tip 4. Early bird gets the parking - those early for the 9 AM race there should be parking in Jamieson St, after that it is as per the photo attached. See you all tomorrow.

02.01.2022 CAN YOU HELP WITH VOLUNTEERS? Like any event, we are always on the lookout for volunteers and supporters to help us produce the best XRACE possible. Best of all, it is a truckload of fun. So, if you have a member of your household who is coming along, invite them to be part of the action. We will place your family member/volunteer on a challenge, helping us help you make the day go smoothly.... Here is what we require. You need to be over 16 years of age and prepared to help out. You must be on site one by 8 AM. (5 PM for Canberra). You will then help out on the challenge until the last team comes through. At that point, you will help out with the breakdown of the challenge and return the assets back to the start finish line. That's it. In return, we offer the following payments options, in kind. There are two options: The latest XRACE T-shirt plus a $50 pressie card./ Gift voucher. -or- The latest XRACE T-shirt plus a free family for four entry into next years 2019 XRACE. In the past, we have had grandparents, uncles and auntie's and older brothers and friends helping out. It's a whole lot of fun. All you need to do is complete the form below and we will contact you seven days before your event to confirm. https://www.xrace.com.au/support

02.01.2022 Here is our posting of the year. It was a week out from our XRACE and here is what we asked. "Very special volunteers needed for this Sunday. We are looking for two-three STRONG people - read rugby prop types to help out a family with an 8-year old girl who is autistic and has cerebral palsy. We've said 100% yes to this super team but we just need the big guns to lift and carry the chair where chairs aren't meant to go. So, can anyone find us a couple of strong dudesses or du...des that can get this team around the course. It will be a tough one." Tough was an understatement. The course had a good kilometre of soft sand. Rocky, uneven singletrack and of course a steep uphill section with no trail whatsoever. Three guys raised their hands and turned up, taking turns on the chair. One was a fireman I think and I honestly have no idea what their names were. They had no connection to any teams whatsoever - complete XRACE strangers who just said, "yeah, mate" and turned up and gave an 8-year old girl a bit of a push when she needed it. A local reporter got wiff of the story and came down to cover this fantastic family and these super heroes. He immediately found the going tough and would have got better comments from a bag of rocks. These guys didn't want to be interviewed, didn't want to be patted on the back and were quite embarrassed about all the fuss being made about them. They mumbled through the reporter's questions and in the end simply said "mate, got a work shift. Gotta go" and with that, they disappeared. To these three from all of us, You deserve too much Christmas pudding and a long snooze on the sofa. Thanks boys. Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you. See you all again in 2019. The XRACE team.
