24.01.2022 How do we face this emergency? The first step is truth telling. And for many rebels that deep truth telling started with a Heading for Extinction talk. The talk covers the facts on the climate and ecological crisis. Facts you won't hear in the newspaper. It then covers how we can use civil disobedience to shift our government into action.... NEXT PRESENTATION: FEBRUARY 6 AT 10 AM CAFE OUTSIDE THE SQUARE, ADELAIDE https://www.facebook.com/events/1005173333305052/
20.01.2022 75% of Australians support a net zero 2030 emissions target. 72% support banning donations from fossil fuel companies. Yet the government does nothing. This is not safe.... It’s time for civil disobedience to play a central role in our activism. Asking nicely hasn’t worked. We must rebel, peacefully, non-violently, respectfully. 20.01.2022 Have you seen Extinction Rebellion's Red Rebel Brigade? We're the ghostly-white figures cloaked in scarlet-red, drifting gracefully throughout some of XR's actions. We come to support the arrestable rebels, to de-escalate confrontational situations, we block roads by crossing slowly or flocking in junctions, but only long enough to provoke emotive responses. We make appearances in both nature and urban settings, creating a contrast with the surrounding environment. South Aust...ralia's Red Rebel Brigade is holding an information session this Sunday. Come along and meet us and learn more about this silent street theatre activists group. https://www.facebook.com/events/217294073379240 All genders encouraged. Drinks and nibbles provided
20.01.2022 According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) 2050 is 20 years too late to transition to net zero emissions AND we need absolute zero emissions, net zero is not far enough. Any plan which fails to consider experts warnings of 100 million deaths and social collapse if absolute zero emissions aren't achieved by 2030 (at the latest), is climate denial and incredibly dangerous.
19.01.2022 We must reseize the reins of government and put people in charge through citizens assemblies. Read more about how we can upgrade democracy through citizen assemblies here: https://ausrebellion.earth//Citizens_Assemblies_Guide_-_Ex
15.01.2022 Even the country's biggest coal generator and polluter AGL see's the writing on wall. They're building a massive 250MW battery here in South Australia. "The significance of this battery is the four hours of storage, the first in Australia, which suggests that AGL now sees batteries as competitive with gas generators to meet peak demand periods, and to operate primarily to shift the supply of wind and solar to when it is needed most."
14.01.2022 On Friday rebels danced in a conga line through Westfield Marion shopping centre drawing attention to the toxic system which has created the conditions for Black Friday Sales to thrive. We demand radical change from a system that encourages mass consumerism at the expense of all else to one that cares for the earth and each other. We must hold the CEOs, government officials, and ‘top dogs’ accountable for the mass-manipulation and mass-exploitation they are executing.... Hyper consumerism is built on the exploitation of workers, often young children, women or marginalised groups who work in conditions of modern slavery. Our planet is littered with immense amounts of trash, seas are full of micro plastics and forests are cut down to make space for cotton plantations. It all contributes to global carbon emissions. We must reduce, reuse, repair, recycle, restore and continue to rebel demanding that the Australian government and powerful institutions take emergency action required to curtail destructive hyper consumerism. 14.01.2022 LIVE: END BLACK FRIDAY SALES Rebels are dancing a conga through Westfield Marion shopping centre to draw attention to the toxic system which has created the conditions for Black Friday Sales to thrive. We demand radical change to the system that encourages mass consumerism at the expense of all else. We do not blame consumers. Rather, we blame the toxic system that has created the conditions for Black Friday Sales. We must hold the CEOs, government officials, and ‘top dogs...’ accountable for the mass-manipulation and mass-exploitation they are executing. We demand that the Australian government take emergency action to curtail the destructive behaviour of corporations. One of Extinction Rebellion’s demands: ACT NOW! We demand net zero carbon emissions by 2025. #EndBlackFridaySale #EndBlackFridaySales #NetZeroEmissionsby2025 #ActNow #ClimateEmergency #ExtinctionRebellion
13.01.2022 What's this? Oh, just the Australian Defence Force undertaking exercises targeting Australians. Under "Specified circumstances" determined by Peter Dutton, the ADF could be called out regarding potentially anything that could impact on "Commonwealth interests", including protest actions. "Exercise Austral Shield is the first ADF/police exercise to practise defending ‘critical infrastructure’ from ‘terrorist’ and ‘domestic violence’, under new laws that came into law in June, ...2019" Source: https://www.buzzfeed.com//people-are-worried-peter-dutton-
13.01.2022 The Prime Minister of Aotearoa (New Zealand), Jacinda Ardern will personally introduce a motion in parliament next week to declare a climate emergency. The world is shifting but will Australia be left behind? Don't leave it to others to decide. Join the rebellion. https://ausrebellion.earth/join-the-rebellion
12.01.2022 "He did something that very few people would have the courage to do. He said no."
11.01.2022 What we are seeing now is beyond the realm of what was possible previously."
10.01.2022 "We’re currently already making around 100 billion new garments every year of which it’s estimated that 73% of which will end up in landfill or incineration. Faced with this harsh reality of how quickly we routinely discard our clothes, these global mega-discount sales that drive up consumption must be put under ethical scrutiny. Fashion is one of the world’s most polluting industries. During our current global climate crisis, now more than ever, we need to slow down consumption and consider how our closet and styling choices impact the world we live in."
08.01.2022 Extinction Rebellion South Australia understands that you cannot have climate justice served without extending your understanding to racial justice and social justice. The climate crisis we face is interlinked to other crises such as racism, sexism and ultimately wealth inequality. XRSA Decolonisation is dedicated to levelling the playing field for those disenfranchised by the system. The first priority is to understand the difference between privilege and disadvantage and ho...w this is impacting the global climate crisis. By battling against systemic individualism we are rebelling against one of the leading causes of our climate crisis. It is part of the rebellion to decentralise the global climate movement from the privileged to those whose struggles are not given a platform, to those who the climate crisis affects the most, to those who face hardships by the system and to those who are under-represented by media. By engaging in works of decolonisation, we hope to start conversations that encourage you on how to join a global movement with empathy, respect, understanding and fire. It is us versus the fossil fuel and gas corporate and political elites who put money over the earth and profit over human life. Let’s come together and take a stand against it. #ExtinctionRebellion #Decolonize #ActNow #SystemChangeNotClimateChange
08.01.2022 scomo says not stonks . . . .... . Image description: Text reads "when you wanted to create 1464 jobs but 7 billion people are protesting because they don't want the earth to die" An image of the "not stonks" meme, a businessman crosses his arms in disappointment as the stock crashes, text says "not stonks". Scott Morrison's grumpy face is shopped onto the businessman to highlight that Scomo is the key player selling the future of the earth to coal companies. See more
07.01.2022 Live: Bicycle swarm against Drivers’ Month! This month Adelaide City Council is holding its embarrassingly out of touch ‘Drivers’ Month’ (aka Park & Play). Today we’re swarming against what "might be the most stupid decision in the city council’s history" (David Washington, InDaily). When it comes climate action we don’t want Adelaide to be at the back of the pack. The council needs to chuck a uey and get back on track.... The swarm is touring the sites of "Drivers' Month" with visits to Town Hall and several UPark Car Parks ending with a picnic by the Adelaide Himeji Japanese Garden on South Terrace. This livestream is in a series of three. Watch the other parts. 05.01.2022 Reject Consumerism. Embrace sustainability. XR Youth US on Black Friday.
01.01.2022 Racism is the systemic oppression and discrimination of a human being based on their race and ethnicity and it has instilled itself in our culture and society. This capitalist system is responsible for many disasters and the climate catastrophe is one among others. To seek out climate justice means to seek out racial justice. Understanding how the two are linked closely to each other is the hard work and responsibility of those who want to oppose the system that destroys the ...earth for profit. Climate justice will be the result of social justice and social justice will be the reason why this system will dismantle. Anti-racism is to rebel against the climate criminals. Anti-racism is to bring peace and equity into our communities. Anti-racism is to claim our humanity. Anti-racism is to hold ourselves and each other accountable. Anti-racism is the struggle for climate justice. Join Extinction Rebellion South Australia Decolonisation circle’s last Anti-Racism Training session for this year on the 28th of November from 11am to 1pm on Zoom. 01.01.2022 Follow the money. Last year there was over $24 million of 'donations' made to Australian political parties. https://www.michaelwest.com.au/donations-day-live-coverage/
