23.01.2022 Just a quick post to spread the word about a new Crytolocker variant called ‘Locky’ we’ve been seeing around in the wild. This version we’ve seen arrives attached to an email from a utilities provider, like AGL, claiming you have an overdue account or an overpaid bill which requires details for a refund. They typically have a Word document attached purporting to contain these details, but when its opened the text appears garbled with a message at the top asking to enable macr...os. This is the trap. The virus is attached to the macro and then takes over your files, documents and photos before irreversibly encrypting them and generating a message requesting payment to a criminal organisation to decrypt them. As always, vigilance is the best defence. If you receive a suspicious email with an inconsistent address, poor spelling and grammar, containing links to external websites or asking for your account password or financial details, always err on the side of caution and delete it. Utility and financial institutions will never ask you for these details, and if in doubt, contact them directly and ask. You can also forward these emails to us for a quick opinion. If we don’t reply within a day, it’s safe to assume that email was dangerous and deleted by our mail server, something you should consider as well!

11.01.2022 Just a quick post in lieu of a surge of new ransomware traffic we’ve been seeing Fake Australia Post websites spreading TorrentLocker Ransomware. Please be mindful and vigilant of emails received purporting to be a parcel notification for or from Australia Post. Any links, attachments or Captcha fields should be treated with extreme caution. Australia Post will never send you an email asking you to click on an attachment, ask you to click on a link to reconfirm your address, ...solicit you for payment or ask for any information regarding your account, password or credit card details. Hovering over links in Tracking Delivery emails and confirming the links as directing to http://auspost.com.au is also recommended to avoid potential infection and blackmail from criminal syndicates. Be safe!

10.01.2022 Microsoft Word spreads malware! Please be extra careful with opening files in Word, see link below and make sure you ask your IT support to update your copy of Word, once the vulnerability is patched, likely by tomorrow! https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com//attackers-using-a-word-z
