24.01.2022 Large pin punch

24.01.2022 A large fabricated box I made this week at my day job as a fitter/boilermaker for Bluescope Steel. This holds a 204L drum of oil for the Vacuum Degasser for the Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOS)

23.01.2022 316 Stainless Steel Couplings for the Hot Strip Mill at Port Kembla Steelworks

23.01.2022 New TIG 200 Amp AC/DC with foot pedal, up and down slope, infinite pre and post flow, crater control, hot start and on the fly current adjustment on the torch ( should I ever need to use it over the foot pedal ) Stoked! Plasma cutter is next!

21.01.2022 Set of gears for a milling machine in bluescope steels material testing laboratory. This machine uses two milling cutters around 250mm in diameter to machine hot rolled strip into "dog bones" for tensile testing.

20.01.2022 The start of a new grinding fixture.

20.01.2022 Pinion shaft, gear, bush and bolster plate

20.01.2022 Lifting gear rack I fabricated at work for the Hot Strip Mill workshop

19.01.2022 Kasto Power Hacksaw Cylinder for Bluescope steel completed. Cylinder and cylinder head were stripped right down to check for cracks and re painted. A new piston was machined and installed. Ready to be installed tomorow!

19.01.2022 The view from the top of the BOS. This is looking down toward port Kembla!

18.01.2022 These are some rollers for a special scissor action door at the BOS Ladle Desulfurization Plant at the Port Kembla steelworks. The loco parks the ladle in the desulf tower, and the doors come down to contain the firey process of desulfurizing the torpedo ladles. At my day job, we will be building the new door frames.

15.01.2022 Some interesting parts I made.

15.01.2022 Picture from the old days at Bluescope Steel. Think this is the No. 2 Open Hearth Furnace??

14.01.2022 A part I made for a friend of mines boss. Its off a old pipe bender. Probably cant tell from the photo but the walls of the slot are tapered 1 degree each side. Was a pretty good job. Enjoyed making it. Material is 1020 steel.

14.01.2022 Tailstock for my dividing head on my milling machines

12.01.2022 Crane inspections and repairs at Bluescope Steels Hot Rolling Mills

12.01.2022 Little sign I made up at my day job. One of my repeat jobs here at the port Kembla works is refurbishing the side guides for No. 1 & 2 Coilers at the Hot Strip Mill. Thought Id make a few of these up to make my area look a bit more professional and to warn people of the welding arc, which is 300Amps running a 5mm Iron Powder welding rod - thats hot!

12.01.2022 Todays job is a hydraulic cylinder for bluescope steel. This cylinder is from a KASTO power hacksaw that dates back to 1966! The rings on the piston are shot so I am making a new piston to take more modern seals. I will also check for leaks and tidy it up a bit as Id say its a bit tired after 50 years of service!

12.01.2022 Parts for a coil transfer car at Lysaghts Rolling Mill at springhill

12.01.2022 Aluminium parts.

11.01.2022 Very glad I rebuilt my lathe again, properly this time. Its a pleasure to use, and very accurate.

10.01.2022 Making some tooling for the workshop - this is the start of a 125mm sine bar.

09.01.2022 Very glad I rebuilt my lathe again, properly this time. It's a pleasure to use, and very accurate.

06.01.2022 Electric motor refurbishment. I fitted new bearings, inspected the windings and rotor, performed checks on the insulation of the windings, and an earth leakage check.

05.01.2022 The before and after pictures of my side guide refurbs.

05.01.2022 Another one of my repeat jobs I do a couple times a month, is assisting to repair the oxygen lances for the BOS Plant. This area is way up in near the ceiling of the huge BOS Building. 90 feet above the operators floor - Carbon Monoxide Personal Monitors are required the whole time. While Im up there, and the boiley is welding the new tip on the lance, I set up the water test, paint the lifting end and if Ive got some spare time, I clean the place up and try to make it a bit safer and nicer to work in. Heres a big pedestal grinder I refurbed over a couple slow days earlier this year.

03.01.2022 Frame and trolley we made to remove thrust rollers from the Lime Kiln at Bluescope Steel

03.01.2022 Small tailstock I am machining for my milling machines dividing equipment. This makes it possible for machining splines and gears etc in longer shafts

02.01.2022 More work on the ram housing

02.01.2022 Worldskills practice part. This is one part out of a 4 part assembly.

02.01.2022 Crank Pulley Hub. Unique design about this is that instead of running a rubber crank seal, it uses a clearance in the bore of the block of a few thousandths of an inch on the threaded spigot and the oil is "slung" back into the block by the LH square thread. Neat job Material was K1045

01.01.2022 Ram housing up in the lathe.

01.01.2022 Who says fitters cant weld

01.01.2022 Next time any of you are at the Mount Kembla Motocross Track, think of xZakt Engineering when you wash your bike with these new nozzles Ive made for the hoses I am going to try both types and see which is better, then make 3 more.
