25.01.2022 OPEN DAY 2020 - WE NEED YOUR INPUT! Every year, the Yackandandah CFA opens the shed doors, squirts some water for the kids and answers your burning questions (pun completely intended) about anything from preparing your property before summer to what to do on a high fire danger day. With the current situation, we can't do that this year. But we know that this information is important and that you no doubt have more questions than ever after the fire season we experienced in 20...19/20. The suggestion has been made to host a video forum one evening to answer questions as usual, all hosted online in a drop-in and drop-out scenario. Hop online, ask a brigade member your question, hang around if you like or hop off and continue your evening. If this format is something that appeals to you, date yet to be decided, please let us know what day and times work best in the comments below. You may not see us as regularly as before but we are always here to help and support our community!

24.01.2022 Dig deep today, Yackandandah! Donate below using the link: https://fundraising.virtualtinshake.com/Yackandandah-CFA

It’s free of dust and cobwebs.... It beeps and has a 10 year lithium battery. If it is older than 10 years, time to replace it. See more

21.01.2022 REMINDER: Virtual Open Day (Night, really!) is on this Thursday evening. Due to current restrictions, we're not able to run our Open Days as usual. That means no squirting water or climbing on the trucks for the kids BUT we still want you to ask your questions about the fire season! Join Neil Padbury & Cameron McKern on a virtual panel and get informed advice and direction. There's no obligation to stay for the whole event, simply pop in and out as you please.... Our volunteers are here to help you and our community, so let's use the time wisely!

20.01.2022 Summer is approaching and with it the fire season. Yackandandah Community Centre's Yack Chat and the Yackandandah CFA have teamed up for a series of live-to-air discussions on what you need to do to prepare and keep yourself safe in the coming months. Take a look at this video of a discussion between Yackandandah Brigade captain, Yves Quaglio and Yack Community Centre manager, David Thorpe to hear what is planned for Yack Chat on Indigo FM in the coming weeks.

19.01.2022 On behalf of the Yackandandah CFA Brigade our hearfelt thanks to Terry Collins, the musos and local businesses who supported the Open Mic afternoon at the Dederang Hotel. The resulting donation to the Brigade was enormous. Rest assured the money will be well spent in providing support for our very generous community. Thanks again everyone.... - Bryan Smith, Secretary/Treasurer

18.01.2022 You might be seeing smoke or seeing that DELWP and CFA are conducting planned fuel reduction burns, but please be aware that restrictions are still in force until CFA (Country Fire Authority) advises otherwise. If you plan to burn off on private property during the Fire Danger Period, a permit is required (in fact, local laws on burn-offs apply all-year-round, especially if you're within town limits). Check with Indigo Shire Council before lighting up and complete an online application via https://firepermits.vic.gov.au/ PLEASE NOTE: An application does not guarantee that a permit will be issued.

18.01.2022 Don’t forget - this workshop is on this Saturday. It’s never too late to prepare your property and plan for next year.

18.01.2022 Head along to a workshop hosted by Yackandandah Community Garden to hear a CFA community safety presenter explain CFA community warnings, outlining current thinking around what we can do in and around our homes and how to give them the best chance of surviving a bushfire. This session will be valuable for all residents of Yack and surrounds. As recently seen in Corryong, all houses in the township are vulnerable to nearby fires. Even those who plan to leave early can learn ways of giving their homes and gardens a better chance by attending this session.

16.01.2022 It's a highlight on our calendar every year, but this year we're sad to not be participating in the Good Friday Appeal as we normally would. A virtual tinshake is taking place across the state in place of traditional measures and as always, we're proud to be participating.... To donate to the Royal Childen's Hospital Good Friday Appeal, you can click this link and donate online. https://fundraising.virtualtinshake.com/Yackandandah-CFA Your generosity goes a long way and we're blown away by the contributions Yack community makes every year!

14.01.2022 REMINDER: FIRE RESTRICTIONS ARE STILL IN FORCE. Until 1am on March 29th, burning off is not permitted unless a permit has been issued. Dont be sneaky, friends. Smoke does rise and your neighbours WILL call us, as did happen yesterday when a column of smoke was seen on Yackandandah's outskirts.... Do the right thing & put off lighting up until you have all the right permissions.

14.01.2022 Expect to see an"unnamed" fire truck driving around the streets of Yackandandah and its surrounds over the next couple of weeks. The new Heavy Tanker is a replacement for our current ageing truck but first our drivers and crews need to be inducted in its use. We are expecting the new truck to be on-line in about three weeks.

14.01.2022 We may not be able to be face to face with you to collect on behalf of Good Friday Appeal this year... but we can still shake it for you Yackandandah! #CFAGFA As this post goes live, Yackandandah is 22nd in the state of Victoria for the generosity of donations that are coming in! 11.01.2022 In the light of current circumstances, we’re sure that you, our community, will understand the brigade’s decision to halt any trainings and meetings under advice from higher up. While you won’t be able to come down to the station on a Saturday morning for a chat, or see us spraying barrels down at the sports park on our usual training drills, rest assured that should you need to dial 000, our brigade members are answering pagers and calls as normal. Stay safe. Safe healthy.

08.01.2022 There is a significant incident near Cressy (west of Geelong), involving seven high voltage power transmission lines which have come down due to storm activity in the area. This incident may have an impact on Victoria's power supply as there is a high likelihood of power outages and load shedding. Current advice for all Victorians from the Australian Energy Operator is -... *Turn off non-essential appliances including your washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher *Set your air conditioner to 23-26 degrees *Switch off your pool pumps If you have a critical need for electricity (eg. for medical equipment) please plan ahead now.

08.01.2022 Spontaneous ignition is the leading cause of haystack fire in Victoria, and just one damp bale is enough to ignite a haystack. There are a number of things you can do to minimise the likelihood of a haystack fire starting on your property, including: Make sure hay is well cured before bailing Know the history of the hay you purchase... Keep haystacks to a limited size Monitor moisture and temperature of your hay regularly Watch for unusual odours - such as pipe tobacco, caramel, burning or musty smells. Keep your haystacks safe as the weather starts to warm

05.01.2022 In case you missed it, the Fire Danger Period has been lifted. Please stay vigilant and register all burn offs by calling 1800 668 511.
