24.01.2022 Hello, all you good folk of Yack and district. Yes - it's time again for the call out for articles for the June/July issue of Yackity Yak. So, don't delay, but get your stories and photos into to us by then. [email protected] If you have a late deadline date on a story or event, please let me know and I can book some space for you.

20.01.2022 The call is out - yes, the next Yackity Yak will be out at the end of September, and our deadline for your great stories, articles, photos etc is 5pm on Friday, 18th September, 2020. We know that it's been a testing few weeks with the Stage 3 lock down and massive difficulties getting to and fro across the Border, but with things easing shortly and COVID-19 cases continuing to fall in Victoria, let's hope we have some better times ahead of us, particularly with Spring here an...d the thoughts of some warmer weather to come. So, please get your copy to us. If we haven't given you quite enough time, then let us know at the following email: [email protected] and we can book some space for you. Whilst posting this, Yack Health have asked us to let the good folk of Yack and District know that they are looking for new Committee of Management members. The people of Yackandandah have a long history of working to provide the facilities the town needs, and often succeeding by being a bit different in approaching issues. Yackandandah Health is community owned, and operates as a private not for profit’ Incorporated Association. It is governed by its own Rules of Association, and was established on site eighty nine years ago as a Bush Nursing Hospital with the overall purpose of responding to the Health and Wellbeing needs of the Yackandandah community. It has developed into a substantial operation and a very significant community service with its associated assets employing over 138 people. The service currently provides: Residential Aged Care for some 77 frail aged people; 10 retirement living apartments; A Family Medicine Service delivered by resident GPs & nurses; A 34 place Early Years Learning Centre; Care Sanctuary, and A thriving Men’s Shed on site. Providing the necessary strategic direction and effective governance for such a diverse operation - each area with its own compliance regulations - is the work of the Committee of Management. To do this effectively, we need to draw on the energy, expertise and experience in our community to sustain and strengthen this community resource into the future. We would love to hear from a wide variety of people who are interested, passionate about Yack and with a skill set and experience to apply to volunteer to support this community enterprise. Those applying for an Expression of Interest form (EOI) need to be registered members of Yackandandah Health. These forms are also available from the office. Please contact the Secretary at Yackandandah Health by email: [email protected], call the office on (02) 6028 0100 or drop into reception at Yack Health, 24 Isaacs Ave to request an EIO form which must be returned by end of September.

05.01.2022 The 2020 Kerferd Oration will happen before the next issue of Yackity Yak hits the streets at the end of this month, but it's covering such an important issue that Yackity Yak thought that you might like a reminder. "Young adults in Indigo Shire know what they need to step up to lead their communities. Thats the clear message from a report that has informed the 2020 George Briscoe Kerferd Oration to be delivered on Sunday, 26 July 2020. The report, The Australia We Want, co...mmissioned by the Kerferd Oration Committee in association with Quercus Beechworth, found that the key to encouraging young people to live and work in rural and regional areas was meaningful and personal connections with supportive mentors in business and the community. The 2020 Kerferd Orator is former Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan AO, who has long held a passionate belief in the strength and capabilities of young people. "These uncertain times provide an opportunity to think about the vision and values that guide our community and governments; now is the very best time to engage all of the community in this discussion especially the young adults who have such a vested interest in the future, Ms McGowan said. The 2020 Kerferd Oration will be streamed live for the first time this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, and can be viewed on the Kerferd Oration website www.kerferdoration.org from 11am on Sunday, 26 July 2020. The Chair of the Kerferd Oration Committee, Karenne Thistleton, says she hopes people will embrace this new way of delivering the oration, when social distancing is key to keeping the community safe. All you need to take part in this years Oration is an internet connection - you can view it directly from a link on our website and no bookings are required. Youll also be able to participate in a question and answer session with Cathy at the conclusion of the Oration, she said. The Australia We Want report and details of the Oration are on the Kerferd Oration website, Facebook or Instagram sites. Details about how to livestream the Oration and participate in the Q&A are at www.kerferdoration.org
