24.01.2022 OVER 45: LIONS SET FOR FINAL SHOWDOWN The stage is set for the pinnacle event in the BDAFA 045s Men’s calendar with Bankstown Sports Stars FC set to battle it out against Yagoona Lions FC in the 2020 Grand Final on Saturday afternoon. With all the uncertainties regarding the COVID-19 pandemic this year, not too many thought that we would be fortunate enough to reach this point of the season and credit to the clubs, players, association and referees for their efforts over the... past six months. Bankstown Sports come into the contest as the only undefeated side in 2020. And yes, you read that right - the Bankstown club have been the benchmark of the league with thirteen wins from as many games an astonishing achievement. Yagoona on the other hand, love to spoil a party. They did just that last weekend on the road against Revesby with a ruthless display that saw them score three unanswered goals. The Lions have been hot on the heels of Bankstown recording only one loss from their last ten outings and with the Yagoona faithful expected to play as a twelfth man, could the Lions sneak a major upset ? 2:30PM | YAGOONA V BANKSTOWN | COLEMAN PARK

23.01.2022 EAGLES EDGE OUT LIONS AT JENSEN The afternoon belonged to Greenacre Eagles FC after a late goal saw them crowned the BDAFA Premier League II 2020 Champions. In true grand final spirit, both sides were at each other’s throats from the offset as they looked to stamp their authority on the game from the first whistle.... In a first half that lacked that creative edge, it was Markovski who grabbed the games first goal with a low drive from 20 yards out to give the Yagoona the lead. Fast forward three minutes and the scores were levelled at 1-1 when Greenacre converted from the penalty spot to send the teams into the dressing rooms even. A half time team talk by Yagoona's Tom Markovski seemed to have done the trick with the Lions taking control of proceedings after the break. Both sides appeared to be missing their shooting boots with a host of promising ventures in the attacking third resulting in straightforward saves for both goalkeepers, and Greenacre came closest when a great chance was blasted wide from close range. With the minutes ticking away, the players and spectators were bracing for extra time and possibly a penalty shootout as the rain continued to fall. But it was in the final 10 minutes of the fixture that all the action arrived, with Greenacre taking the lead after a swift counter attack. A barrage of Yagoona pressure ensued for the final stages of the match were tense but Greenacre hung on, And so, it ended as the Eagles claimed the Grand Final and the Lions settled for football in Premier League 1 in 2021.

19.01.2022 SEMI-FINAL | YAGOONA V PADSTOW Yagoona’s time for celebration is over and it is time to get back to business as the newly crowned premiers take on Padstow United at Jim Ring Reserve this Saturday. The Lions has been a model of consistency for most of the season and it is this which will play a major role if they’re to qualify for the grand final.... Defenders Steve Kotevski and Jonathan Dalleh have been sound at the back all season for Yagoona setting a brilliant platform for the rest of the side to build from. However, it is the Yagoona attack which has been their biggest strength over the second half of the season with fan favourite and attacker Tommy Markovski in scintillating form this campaign providing a playmaking outlet for the side as well as chipping in with a few goals of his own. Padstow United may have narrowly missed out on securing a top three finish, but it means they will be more determined than ever when they meet the premiers on Saturday. Boasting a midfield full of skilful scheming playmakers that can cut a defence to pieces with a few passes, United are a side which can win a game in more ways than one. They have managed to grab 25 goals from their last four outings and finished the season with the best attack in the league with 63 goals from sixteen matches. This game has the potential to be a shootout with both sides likely to flex their attacking firepower at every opportunity. Expect this game to go down to the wire as both Yagoona and Padstow are capable of snaring a late goal or two. RESERVES YAGOONA V BIRRONG 2020 Premiers Yagoona Lions will have to be at their best when they take on 4th placed Birrong at midday on Saturday. Yagoona were one of the most consistent performers throughout the rebooted season aside from the lapses against St Christophers and Revesby, they were one of the form sides in the competition. The Briskoski, Tanevski and Vrtkovski link has been a highlight this season as the Lions have found the net 48 times, and the trio have brought a winning edge to the Yagoona team. In a game that can go either way, Yagoona will look to attack early and the question will be if Birrong is focused on the job at hand or are still switched off from the week off. Birrong on the other hand ended the season with the best defensive record, they conceded just 17 times over the course of the rebooted season. It has not been long since these two sides came up against each other with the reigning premiers securing a 3-0 triumph against Birrong at the beginning of August. If the men in white maintain their defensive shape, then they may have a chance of outclassing the Lions and spoil the party for the visiting Lions.
