19.01.2022 The pain just came out of nowhere, I wasn’t really doing anything. This is something we hear a lot with patients but generally pain doesn’t happen for no reason - there is always something that it can be linked to and a lot of the time bad posture and bad movements are the culprit. Our bodies are creatures of habit, this means they adapt to specific situations they are put in. A lot of us are doing desk work or looking at screens so much more than previous generations and... our body ends up adapting to this position - this becomes our norm and the body becomes locked in this position. It is only when we go to move our body that we start to notice how tight and stressed our bodies feel. So, what you can do about it? It’s simple. Get up and move! Our bodies were designed to be upright and moving , and movement is what helps joints function optimally. Don’t let your body stay in awkward postures for too long. Whether you combat this by breaking it up with some stretches or a short walk , it doesn’t matter, the main thing is that you move your body! Exercises on our website https://yaksich.com.au/osteopathic-osteopathy-helpful-exer/ is a great place to start if you are unsure on stretches you need to be doing so make sure you jump on a have look!

12.01.2022 Lifting objects off the floor can be a tricky movement and if done incorrectly can put unecessary strain on your low back. Remember to keep a wide base of support with one foot slightly ahead of the other. Squat down, bending at the hips and knees only. ... Keep good posture - this means looking ahead, keeping you back straight, chest out and shoulders back. Slowly lift by straightening your hips and knees. Hold the load as close to your body as possible , you can do this by sliding the object up one thigh. Don’t lift with outstretched hands. Avoid turning or twisting your body. Do not attempt to lift by bending forward. If it’s too heavy do not try and lift it by yourself. Always do a quick assessment of what ever you are lifting.

10.01.2022 Stretches are something that we have all been prescribed before whether we have followed those instructions is another question! As we have become a society that watches more television, has more desk jobs and spends more time in cars it has become more evident how important stretching is to maintaining a healthy spine there is no doubt that stretching has some great health benefits! Some of these health benefits include: 1. Improved performance ... 2. Decreased risk of injury 3. Improved flexibility 4. Improved circulation 5. Better sleep 6. Increased energy Of course, these things do not happen overnight, so it is important to make a habit of stretching. Try and start off by aiming to do one session per day either as soon as you wake up or before you go to bed. Some things to remember when stretching: 1. Hold your stretch for 20 30 seconds, breathing normally whilst you do this. 2. Aim for tension not pain if there is pain back off to a point where there is no pain. 3. Don’t bounce, stretching should be a smooth methodical movement; bouncing during stretching can actually contribute to tightness and cause injury. 4. Focus on stretching both sides equally. For some good stretches and exercises make sure you head over to our website www.yaksich.com.au. Stretching doesn’t mean you are not going to get injured playing sport or participating in physical activity; however, it puts your body in its best position to perform optimally as well as avoid injury.

08.01.2022 SITTING POSTURE We spend a lot of our time sitting. We sit on the way to work, we sit at work and then we get home and sit down some more! Did you know that the average person spends 5 years of their life sitting down waiting in lines and queues , and roughly 6 months of that is waiting at traffic lights. ... That’s a hell of a long time sitting down! Now imagine if you’re spending all that time seated in a bad posture! Here’s a quick tip to help straighten out your spine at work, in the car or anytime when you remain seated for an extending period of time. Lumbar support: you can buy lumbar supports from your local automotive stores or office works however, if you’re looking for a cheap alternative just roll up a towel or sweater and place that at the small of your back. This encourages the natural curve of your lumbar spine and ensures it’s sitting in neutral! If we are not conscious about our posture when sitting it will result in the low back/mid back rounding and a forward neck posture - all these things being less than ideal if we are trying to eliminate back pain!
