14.01.2022 The milkmaids! Tracie Burke & Christie Woodard milking out Clydie (known as Deb) for the foal. This mare had a standing foaling which is not unusual for them. The foals are often very slow to stand and nurse which leaves them exposed to low IgG levels, and later illness. We find it easiest to milk & tube colostrum into these foals straight away knowing we have t=got the goodies into them rather than do battle when they get bigger and stronger. Clydies also tend to have much lower standard of colostrum quality than the thoroughbred, but gosh their nipples are huge! You can never be in a hurry around a clydie!
