21.01.2022 Howdy friends and Yamaha lovers. Got this vintage FG200 Green label a couple of months ago and finally got around to doing some work on it. As you may see it was in a pretty sad state. The body had been painted with a can of brown spray paint, a very thin layer I'm glad to say. That was stripped off, the original Nitro finish polished and buffed up. The head stock was very grubby, about as grubby as I've ever seen, and along with the original tuners was cleaned and polished u...p. For the set up I made a custom bone nut as I find the string spacing on the original nuts is too close for my big hands and fingers. A custom bone saddle was made. The nut and saddle was from a good quality bone and I feel like it makes a difference. Bridge pins were replaced with Camel bone, new Elixir Nanoweb PB's in 11's, always 11's on these guitars as they have a reputation for being a bit touchy in the neck area. The neck on this is good though the saddle is lowish but good for quite a few years yet. The truss rod still has adjustment so life left in that too. I also fabricated a Brass Plate Mate as the bridge plate was a little chewed out. You can see the strip of brass in one of the pics. A couple of proud frets were file. Frets then cleaned and polished. Fretboard and bridge oiled liberaly as they were pretty dry. My brother, visiting from Brisbane, and I were playing my vintage Martin D35 from 1973, he turned around to make a coffee in the kitchen. As I was playing and commented on how nice that Martin is. What he didn't realise is that I had swapped to this beautiful vintage FG200, same year, 1973. I said yeah it is, then I realised, he thought I was still playing the Martin. Then I told him "No, that was the Yamaha FG200"..... It really is that nice. You hear people say these are as good as....put your brand name there... and think, yeah, right. Honestly, this is so close to the Martin there's hardly any difference. Not what you want to hear when your precious solid wood vintage Martin is 10 times the price of the laminate Japanese guitar. Happy trails Terry

09.01.2022 Howdy folks. Here's a little vid on how I extract bushings from the headstock of our valuable, precious and vintage Yamaha FG guitars. If you've attempted this before you know how tight these bushings are pressed in and how easy it is to damage the headstock trying to force, hammer or screw them out.... This is how I was shown to do it, that is, after my first attempt at forcing them out and lifting the laminate on the guitar, "Oh No" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnuPSCzk6rc&feature=youtu.be

07.01.2022 Howdy Hi friends and fellow Yamaha FG fans. Just purchased from a local online site this awesome FG230 red label 12 string. What I discovered is these have tone by the bucket load. This has been set up with quite a low action of about 2mm which is rarely seen on these guitars due to the string tension of those 12 strings and these guitars are quite lightly braced too. Looking in the sound hole comparing it to a 6 string FG the neck block is a bit larger on the 12 string vers...ion. To achieve the set up on this meant the saddle got sanded down so low it only just sits proud of the saddle slot, the bridge pin holes have been severely ramped and the strings can slide across the top of the saddle, though it is still playable. The plan is for this guitar to be given a neck reset. Looking forward to the completion of this project. Very cool old guitar. Happy trails

07.01.2022 Here's a link to a domo come shoot out, FG200J V FG180J. A close result I think. These models were marketed new towards the student level player but these guitars are really quite good. Very lightly braced, good design with Nitro finish and hide glue used in the construction, all features sort after in quality vintage guitars.... They definitely need proper care though no more than what is expected for any high end vintage guitar. Enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7K8Ki9Qw8m8&t=2s
