21.01.2022 Yamaha-Motor SKY Australia were in Pemberton WA working in conjunction with Biological Services Australia servicing avocado plantations in the region. This involves deploying a payload of vermiculite which is mixed in with millions of predatory mites. 18.01.2022 Yamaha-Motor SKY Australia were in Spring Station Creek, Tharwa in the ACT working in conjunction with ACT Government, Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development servicing Blackberry control in the region. This was a two day spray trial organised by the ACT Government inconjunction with local farmers to help them erradicate Rubus fruticosus L. agg. better known as Blackberry. There are lots of different blackberry species. In NSW, the European blackberry (Rubus frutico...sus) is most common. The stems are called canes growing up to 7m long. These can grow vertical, arched or along the ground.. Covered in prickles they appear green, purplish or red depending on how much light they exposed to. Introduced from Great Britain, Blackberry infests about 9 million hectares of land across Australia. How does it spread? Blackberry produces a lot of seeds. There can be up to 13,000 seeds per square metre under a blackberry bush at the end of a fruiting season. Birds and animals feeding on the berries spread the seeds in their droppings. Seeds also spread by water and with soil. Why is it a problem? Blackberry can dramatically decrease the economic viability of grazing land and lower land values. It invades pastures and replaces more productive types of grass, especially after overgrazing or soil disturbance.
