21.01.2022 We wanted to say a big "thank you" to the incredible firefighters and community members who have done so much over the last few months. It's been a mammoth effo...rt from firefighters from all agencies, across all states and territories, and from the US, Canada and NZ. And when we say a big thank you, we mean big. Thanks to a very kind donation of ad space from Silvercast, we've taken the message to a 70 foot high billboard in NYC! #ThankYouFiries

17.01.2022 After 240 days of fire activity, all major bushfires in NSW have now finally being declared inactive, what a mammoth effort that was, because of the scale of this event we would like to take this time to thank a few people in a post and reflect on this black summer that we have endured. 09.01.2022 Today marks the official end to the most devastating bush fire season in the states history. Firefighters have responded to more than 11,400 bush and grass fir...es that have burnt more than 5.5 million hectares, the equivalent of 6.2% of the state. 2,448 homes were destroyed however more than 14,400 were saved. Most tragically 25 lives were lost including those of three NSW RFS volunteers and 3 US aerial firefighters. The response of emergency services and the community over these months has been nothing short of amazing.

09.01.2022 Very High fire danger for the MIA tomorrow, no total fire ban.

08.01.2022 With an increased risk of grass fires, now is the time to start preparing your property and reducing the risk. One of the simplest way to do this is to put fire breaks in around your property. Effective fuel breaks can be achieved by grazing, slashing, ploughing or mowing, using summer fodder crops, herbicides or burning off. A few simple tips: Put fire breaks in place around assets and standing crops, as well as boundary fences. Check that your farm equipment is in good... repair and ready to deal with a fire should one occur. Be aware that when blades of slashers, mowers and similar equipment hit rocks or metal, sparks can ignite dry grass. Have a farm fire plan in place. These are available online (link below) or through the MIA District Office. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare/farm-fire-safety See more

06.01.2022 The NSW Rural Fire Service is closely monitoring grass and crop growth. With growth like this there may be the potential for a significant grass fire season. On arrival crews found the rear of the house well a...light and worked to extinguish the fire. Thankfully due to a WORKING smoke alarm, the occupants were awoken from their sleep, alerted to the danger and able to evacuate the premises without injury.
