25.01.2022 School is back full-time from today! Last week the children continued with their mixed program - learning between school and home. At school, we managed to create amazing 'Northern Lights' art and design our own Water Cycles. There is so much to learn about our Earth and Solar System. God is good.

20.01.2022 This year has been tough for all schools, but it has proven to us that we can overcome anything when we know God is in control. Since term 2, Yanginanook High has been utilising the beginning of each day to explore our literary interests through a Drop Everything and Read initiative. The students love the added routine and as teachers we couldn't be more proud. Their improved reading confidence has been obvious as we are tackling our first Shakespeare play, A Midsummer Nigh...t's Dream, and it's a piece of cake. Our teens are becoming young orators! Here is a picture of our students crafting together Shakespeare's famous Globe Theatre, they look absolutely awesome! High School enrolments for Years 7-8 are now open for Term 3 and beyond. Please contact Ann on 0451 001 977 for more information or to book a school tour.

20.01.2022 "Every child is unique, therefore their eduction must be also." - Jeannie Fullbright

19.01.2022 We make beautiful memories every day at school.....but this week we are making ancient memories. Our primary students are learning about DINOSAURS and had a lot of fun making fossils. There is so much to learn about our created universe - and looking back at our past can help us make positive changes for the future care of our world :)

15.01.2022 What came first? The chicken or the egg? Trick question, the answer is the chicken coop! Yanginanook HS is working hard learning about different types of timber and materials they will need to get some of these flightless fellas into our lively community! This picture was taken at local garden New Leaf Nursery when we inspected their coop! Know anyone who would love to give their kids an alternative style of education? Send them our way! We are currently enrolling year 7 and 8 students. Contact Ann at 0451 001 977.

13.01.2022 So thankful to be a part of this awesome team - that works together to help every child be all that God has created them to be!

10.01.2022 Yanginanook Kindergarten - a nurturing environment where children develop a lifelong love of learning with the help of dedicated teachers and programs which honour each child's individual needs. Our kindergarten students enjoyed creating their own books this past week, showcasing their writing skills.

09.01.2022 Yanginanook High School is a place of individual learning. Every child is uniquely created with the immense potential to thrive and become all they were made to be. This is Christian, although we do not have a uniform, he chose to dress to impress for his assessment this term. This is him looking fly while presenting about the lifestyle of the Japanese Samurai. The Samurai, an extremely honour-focused people, would have respected the commitment, detail and oratory talent that... Christian demonstrated during his speech. Yanginanook is uniquely positioned to craft adolescents into powerful and confident young adults. This is partially due to the high teacher to student ratio - a growing mind needs an educator's attention. As Socrates once said, wisdom is asking questions. We never need to pass by students' questions simply because there aren't too many minds in one room, struggling to establish the foundation of their learning. Good job, Christian! It's so great to see your love for learning!

08.01.2022 We have had an amazing few weeks! Presenting PowerPoints on Planets, making slime & play-dough, creating Solar Systems, designing landscapes and making beautiful friendship bracelets. It's good to be back!

08.01.2022 We are having so much fun - mixing our tailored classroom lessons with practical life experiences. From cooking lunches to making our own paint, there’s always something new to share and learn.

07.01.2022 A wonderful way to finish our Solar System term - with a visit from the Planetarium, Pyjama Day and a sausage sizzle - topped with creating out-of-this-world artworks!

07.01.2022 "The future influences the present as much as it does the past" - Fredrick Nietzsche People have been using technology since the dawn of time, from the first wooden wheel to the first computer. Our kids are now wholly embedded within internet spheres, interfacing with one another in complex and innovative ways. Alphabet, Google's parent company, has been eyeing cities around the world to adapt into Smart Cities. In our Yanginanook High School Technology classes, we have been... investigating the positive and negative aspects of such towns. The benefits are limitless - a more focused and deliberate society that features a personalised interface (advertisement that knows what you like and dislike), streamlined transport systems (no more speed zones with automated vehicles) and self-sustaining agriculture. The negatives - more surveillance, gated access with a social credit score and more government control! Crazy stuff, right? Well, too much innovation is challenging to manage. That said, as a staff, we are ready to help our students prepare for the future by understanding new innovations and solving real problems of inequality, through technology that is here to stay. This term, our focus leads us to understand how automation might impact our businesses and industries. We are building a model city to practice our automation and problem-solving skills. 06.01.2022 Bones hold all of our body systems together. What makes us human could not exist without the scaffolding that is our skeleton. This term our high school students learnt a lot about our created human bodies - how they grow and how our systems interact with one another. In this experiment, we explored how density affects the strength of our bones. Just like a human skeleton, the scaffolding of the human mind is important - a strong education needs a value-based foundation, wit...h the flexibility to question, discover and learn. We are committed to helping our students develop a passion for lifelong education that is not limited to the walls of a classroom. High School enrolments for Years 7-8 are now open for Term 3 and beyond. Please contact Ann on 0451 001 977 for more information or to book a school tour.

06.01.2022 "The course of true love never did run smooth." A Midsummer Nights Dream. Up in Yanginanook High we have experienced some mass confusion. Its okay though, for it was all intended. You see, a fairy named Puck gave us a visit (at King Oberon's orders of course). He taught us a lesson on why many of Shakespeare's plays are called comedies... Let's just say, when fairies get involved, things get very chaotic. Suddenly, Titania the fairy queen fell in love with a donkey, and four ...courtsmen and women fell in love with the wrong people! The major themes of the play are Power, True Romance and the Distortion of Reality. The archetype of the Fool, in the form of Puck, helped us and our characters understand how to bend the will of reality to achieve our deepest desires and how stand up to injustice and overbearing bullies. All pretty crazy stuff. I'm still a bit confused with who loves whom - so I got our students to make some pretty awesome character love webs. We've stuck them around our room to make it look more colourful. Thanks guys! Yanginanook High is still looking for students who want to dive deep into learning and discover the hidden meaning in texts. These are often misunderstood but very essential skills. If you can't discover meaning in a book, how can you expect to find it in your life? Not on Yanginanook High's watch! Here at Yanginanook we're forming forward thinkers by unravelling intricate themes, implementing intentional problem solving and engaging in interesting experiences. Schooling in a home-like environment can make all the difference! Personally interested or know someone who is? Contact Ann on 0451 001 977. We are currently enrolling Years 7 & 8. We are looking forward to commencing Year 9 in 2021.

05.01.2022 Yanginanook High features flexibility that is impossible in most schools. Last week we had a great time at Zone 3 in Dee Why where we separated into teams and participated in extreme cardio via laser tag. The students struggled to keep up with laser tag professional, and occasional High School teacher, Nathan Ravesteyn. Do your kids want something different from their PDHPE experience at school? Yanginanook values community integration and actively seeks input for what studen...ts find engaging. This week we ran a lot and focused on competition, in a future week will be doing an escape room - our ability to participate in a team will be tested! If you are interested in how we do schooling and community or know someone who would be please contact Ann at 0451 001 977. We are currently accepting enrolments for year 7/ 8 for 2020 and year 9 beginning 2021.

05.01.2022 Our High School students enjoy the flexibility of independent learning. How does a child's personality form? If you have ever wondered about how teens ‘tick', this post will be a long one, but beneficial for all those involved in a teen’s education. ... "Children love and want to be loved and they very much prefer the joy of accomplishment to the triumph of hateful failure. Do not mistake a child for his symptom." - Erik Erikson, Psycho-social Developmental Theorist In the larger schooling systems, teachers are often too busy with the demands of teaching multiple classes of 30+ children. This is not what happens at our small high school where we have the opportunity to meet our students’ individual needs. Our teens enjoy communal trust, hope and purpose as a foundation for their learning. We recognise that every student comes with a wide range of needs that must be met for learning to begin. The needs of a student can be categorised as a child's 'psychosocial development'. Without meeting these needs, students will struggle to embark on their Hero's Journey; to respond to their call to adventure, to ready themselves to face the unknown. It is during the high school years that this development mainly occurs. Erikson's Psycho-social Theory explores the obtainment of 5 virtues throughout an individual's growth. 1. The virtue of Hope. Hope is obtained by giving and receiving trust and identifying mistrust. 2. The virtue of Will, discovering autonomy and shame. Vulnerability helps develop bravery, so our children are willing to weigh risk and reward adequately. 3. The virtue of Purpose, as children wrestle with the notion of guilt and initiative. Humour, empathy and resilience are all developed at this stage. 4. The virtue of Competence, as they begin to manoeuvre social situations and academic arenas, they are confronted with the notion of skill. It is here that they learn humility. 5. The final discovery that children make (before they become adults) is the virtue of Fidelity. The wrestle of identity - confusion makes the difficulties of growing up daunting. It is at this point that the Hero returns from his, or her, journey and understands who they are. They learn the complexities of life and hone their perceptions of logic and beauty. After these virtues have been achieved, an individual will be able to discover Love, Care and Wisdom. Yanginanook High School is dedicated to helping teens smash through their psycho-social development and emerge as functioning, well-adjusted and confident adults. In the meantime, if you ever feel like pulling your hair out with your teen, read Erikson's theory and contemplate where your child is learning and growing..it might take some of the edge off the conflict. Interested in giving your child the best educational environment to thrive? Phone our Principal Ann Russell on 0451 001 977 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13

02.01.2022 Yanginanook HS is not only an excellent place to develop your mind, it is also a fantastic place to explore the physical world. Here are some of our students, hands on with tools, fixing a platform destroyed in a storm earlier this year. As every single person is gifted with different skills we celebrate the skilled experts in our community that help us explore possible paths in life. Here is Paul Ravesteyn, a member of our school board and life-long builder, teaching us how ...to safely and effectively use power tools (getting us ready to build our chicken coop in Term 4). If you are interested in a personalised education for school years K-10, give us a call on 0451 001 977. We are currently accepting enrolments for Years 7, 8 and 9.

02.01.2022 Last week, in the calm before the storm, we did something a little unusual. We did chemistry... but outdoors! A bit out of the ordinary, sure, but it is the Yanginanook way. Nothing is off the table when it comes to learning and we love to keep the kids on their toes and interest them in unique and engaging ways. What happens when you mix Hydrochloric Acid and Zinc? Ask one of the Yanginanook High students. I'm sure they'll be 'popping' to tell you. After this experiment, we... had less fortune when testing with Magnesium. We plan to reattempt that experiment later this week, along with a full and comprehensive introduction to Bunsen burners. Exciting times! Don't be ordinary, be extraordinary! We are currently enrolling Years 7 and 8 for 2020, as well as Year 9 from 2021. If you are personally interested or know someone who is contact Ann on 0451 001 977.

01.01.2022 Excellent student teacher ratios allow for unique learning experiences and lots of fun at Yanginanook.
