23.01.2022 Good Evening! Tomorrow night (Wed 25/11/20) we will be out and about for training. Training will take place at the Carrickalinga Bushfire Last Resort Refuge reserve. 23.01.2022 Why Risk It? Fire Danger Season is upon us once again. Thinking about getting rid of that bit of garden waste with a quick fire? Or getting the angle grinder ou...t to fix that broken gate? What about having a warming campfire when you’re on your holidays? All these activities regularly cause bushfires, so to help raise awareness, we'll be releasing a series of four short video clips as part of our ‘Why Risk It?’ campaign. Please watch today’s video on garden waste burning and keep a look out for the others as summer progresses right here on our Facebook page, as well as on our website at https://www.police.sa.gov.au. You can support the campaign by printing out your own ‘Why Risk It?’ posters from the SAPOL https://www.police.sa.gov.au/your-safety/bushfire-prevention and also access our nine fire prevention fact sheets which cover topics including camp fires, garden waste fires, using power tools and harvesting practices. This Fire Danger Season, please help us to keep you safe by reporting any deliberate, reckless or negligent acts which may cause a bushfire by calling SAPOL on 131 444. In an emergency call Triple Zero (000). If you have any information about someone deliberately lighting fires call Crime Stoppers on 1800 33 000 or report https://crimestopperssa.com.au/. You can remain anonymous. To learn more about what you can and can't do during Fire Danger Season, visit www.cfs.sa.gov.au

22.01.2022 Good morning followers! Tonight we will be doing a training exercise with HayFlat CFS and Myponga CFS, you might see lots of flashing lights and about 4 fire trucks. Please don’t be alarmed as it’s only a training exercise. This will take place at the Normanville Hotel (corner of cheesman St and Main road) around 7:30pm (1930hrs) until approximately 10pm (2200hrs)

20.01.2022 This afternoon, CFS HAZMAT responded to a possible chemical spill in the Bungala River at the Normanville Jetty Caravan Park where an oily film with white fibre...s was covering 600m of the surface. Water samples have also been taken for analysis. UPDATE from Yankalilla Council Unidentified Material Found on The Bungala River. Quick action from the Council team has seen the appropriate authorities attend the Bungala River to investigate an unidentified substance in the Bungala River and prior to their arrival stop the substance from reaching the estuary. Council received an initial notification from a resident today, that he had observed a thick white film on the Bungala River. Council’s Environmental Health Officer (EHO) and General Inspector immediately attended the scene where they could see the material on top of the water west of the Williss Drive Bridge and spread for approximately 500m. Thankfully the material did not contain a smell and had not reached the estuary. Council’s EHO called the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to report the incident. The EPA mobilised the MFS, CFS and Hazmat Team to come down to contain the unidentified material. While waiting for these services to arrive our quick-thinking staff called in assistance from our Operational Works Manager, Damien Cross who promptly built a temporary floating boom from material at our depot and installed it to prevent the material moving towards the estuary. The EPA will contain the unidentified material, test samples and investigate where it came from. Protecting and caring for our pristine environment is a priority for Council and our Community, we will endeavour to keep you informed and provide an update when we receive information from the EPA.

20.01.2022 Long time no post! Now that covid restrictions have eased we’re back into our regular training routines and now participating in courses again. This weekend 3 of our members participated in ‘advanced resuscitation’ training, this vital training has granted these members with the skills and knowledge to deliver someone medical grade oxygen in an emergency situation. This could be anything from helping SA ambulance at the scene of a motor vehicle accident or on the fire ground helping out one of our own! Big thank you to Jenny from St John for giving up her Saturday and providing us this critical training for our members.

18.01.2022 Statewide Fire Danger Season commences from midnight tonight. The whole of South Australia will officially be in Fire Danger Season tomorrow, with the final fou...r districts: Adelaide Metropolitan, Kangaroo Island, Lower South East, and Mount Lofty Ranges, commencing their season from midnight tonight. Residents in these areas need to ensure that any fuel reduction burns are completely extinguished and find alternate options for clearing away excess vegetation, such as council green waste disposal. Please make sure your Bushfire Survival Plan is up-to-date and that you are familiar with your Fire Ban district, and what you can and can't do during Fire Danger Season and on days of Total Fire Ban. For more information visit www.cfs.sa.gov.au/bebushfireready

17.01.2022 We are much more than a bushfire service. Today our firefighters were deployed to Normanville to investigate a mysterious white ‘film’ over a waterway. Our crew...s utilised their specialist capability training in HazMat to investigate as required. We utilised high tech laser equipment to help identify this substance. See more

16.01.2022 Last wednesday night we trained with HayFlat CFS and Myponga CFS at the Normanville Hotel. Crews were tasked to set-up hose lines for LPG (gas) cylinder cooling as well as relay pumping and fire attack. Thanks to the Normanville Hotel for letting us use your space to train for these essential skills. Photos credit of Lands end photography.

15.01.2022 Have you seen Yankalilla’s new wheels? Our hardworking volunteers in the region are now responding to emergencies in their state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz VS3...0 Sprinter ambulance. The vehicles have a number of safety technologies to assist our crews particularly those on country roads. The safety features includes windscreen wipers that pre activate the brakes by bringing the disk pads closer to the disk during wet weather and stabilising interventions to reduce the vehicle body movement associated with gusty conditions. Another exciting feature is that there is a camera that can show an aerial 360 degree view of the vehicle and its close environment. It’s the first of 46 new ambulances that will be rolled-out across SA. Next up - Penola and Cleve!

15.01.2022 On Wednesday, #SAAS crews and #SAASSpecialOps treated a woman who slipped and fractured her lower leg at #DeepCreek. Paramedics Ian, Stephanie and Ron treated t...he patient on scene, before she was winched by #SAASSpecialOps Rescue Paramedics Dean and Simon. The patient was taken by State Rescue Helicopter to the Flinders Medical Centre in a stable condition. Another great multi-agency response from SAAS, South Australia Police, SA Metropolitan Fire Service, SA State Emergency Service and SA Country Fire Service crews working together to deliver great care for the patient.

15.01.2022 Rest in Peace Stuart Lambert ESM On Friday the 21st of August 2020, the SA State Emergency Service community lost one of their finest. Not only a loyal frien...d and a knowledgeable mentor, but an incredible rescuer. Stuart Lambert volunteered at Barmera SES for almost 50 years, landing himself in the Unit Manager position. Stuart also became one of the most important volunteers within the greater Riverland district, attaining capability coordinator roles, quickly becoming known for his rescue abilities. Not only did he volunteer at the local level, he became a well-known name across the state as one of the most knowledgeable Road Crash Rescue trainers, partaking in LUKAS hydraulic tool demonstration. Stuart taught Road Crash Rescue all over SA and even inter-state, to not only SES but CFS and MFS included. Along with a close friend, Danny Wood, Stuart wrote the 'Heavy Road Crash Rescue' training package and delivered it to local units to further our rescue capability, ensuring our capacity of rescue was always on par with local requirements. As stated above Stuart was not only an incredible rescuer, but an incredible friend... someone who showed great compassion and loyalty to those around him. There are MANY stories to be shared involving this amazing man and his outstanding achievements and never enough time to share. Our deepest sympathies go out to Stuarts wife, children, and grandchildren. We would also like to send our condolences to the entirety of Stuarts rescue family who are shook greatly by this tragedy. We hope you may do the same. Time has come to hang up the overalls, but you will always be riding shotgun with us. Rest in Peace Stuart Love from your brothers and sisters in orange from Loxton SES

14.01.2022 Are you one of the many Australians that loves to go for long drives with your feet on the dash?? Well this video is for you! Every year, passengers sustain un...necessary injuries from travelling like this. Their legs are forced back at awkward angles into their face and chest in a matter of milliseconds. Please, watch this video and remind your family and friends about the importance of keeping your feet off the dash. See more

11.01.2022 The Bureau has confirmed that a La Niña has formed in the tropical Pacific, with climate models suggesting it's likely to remain until at least the end of 2020.... La Niña typically brings: A wetter-than-average spring and summer to northern and eastern Australia; Cooler-than-average days and warmer-than-average nights; Increased tropical cyclone numbers; An earlier start to the monsoon and wet season; Average fire risk; and Less intense but more prolonged heatwaves across southern Australia. But every La Niña event is different. Once La Niña develops it usually finishes the following autumn, but some events have lasted 2 or 3 years. Rainfall can also vary considerably. During the last big event of 2010-2012 rainfall was above average across most of Australia (we saw Category 5 tropical cyclone Yasi devastate far north Queensland communities during this period), whereas rainfall during the La Niña event of 2008-2009 was much more patchy. 07.01.2022 We are facing some difficult conditions today with a mix of bushfire risk and follow up stormy weather. Fire danger conditions in the Clare Valley and Adelaide ...Hills are particularly concerning and if conditions accelerate we may need to consider disconnections to minimise the risk of a fire start. Be prepared for some extreme and changing weather conditions and the potential for outages. Remember to stay clear of downed powerlines and report them on 13 13 66. Click here for more information www.cfs.sa.gov.au/bans-and-ratings/

06.01.2022 Today sees aerial firefighting aircraft of the CFS activated for the first time this summer. For owners of drones, under CASA laws it is illegal for you to fly ...your drone over an emergency incident (including bushfires). If an unauthorised drone is flow over a fireground, all air support is immediately grounded. If you fly, we can’t so please leave your drone at home. See more

06.01.2022 Who you gonna call? Know the rules about taking and making calls while you're driving. It could save you $604.

06.01.2022 At this time in South Australia it is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended to wear a mask when out in public and you can’t physically distance (1.5m fr...om others). Please note: children under 12 years of age do not need to wear a mask, as they may not be able to handle it safely. The term ‘face mask or mask’ includes reusable cloth masks, and single-use face masks (commonly called surgical masks). At this time, ‘fitted’ face coverings, such as bandanas, scarves, or neck gaiters can be used if you are unable to find a cloth mask, or single-use surgical face mask. Face masks that have unfiltered one-way valves should not be used. Important things to remember about wearing masks: 1 Once your mask is on, it is important that you don’t touch or adjust the front of it while wearing it it’s the part that’s protecting you from COVID-19. If you do touch it by accident, wash or sanitise your hands right away. 2 Before putting your mask on and after taking it off, remember to thoroughly wash and dry (or sanitise) your hands. 02.01.2022 Hay Flat joined Myponga in a training exercise run by Yankalilla CFS down at the Normanville Hotel tonight simulating a search and rescue structure fire, and a ...gas cooling operation. The evening went well, integrating brigades working well with each other and we got to test our equipment in the process. Many thanks to Yankalilla Training Officer Cassandra for the invite to a well organised training evening, and a special mention to our own members for making the time to come along and participate.
