18.01.2022 Meet Georgia Yanner (Née English) (Class of 2001) I loved all things languages and music at school, especially the Carols service and rehearsals. Ms O’Driscoll ...ran a tight ship but it taught me discipline and to take pride in my performance. I still keep in contact with my Austrian exchange student Uschi from Sacré Cœur Pressbaum. I’ve visited her many times; I sang at her wedding and last year we caught up in Hamburg. I studied Arts/Law at Monash, spending a few months studying in Florence. After university I lived in Hamburg for a year and taught English at Airbus. I’ve lived in Ballarat for 10 years and now own my own law firm specialising in property and succession law. Living in a regional city, I have the opportunity to really get involved in the community. I am a director on the board of the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute, which focuses on immunotherapy & ovarian cancer research. I’m so proud this world leading research is being done in Ballarat. I’ve also recently joined the board of Ballarat Grammar as I wanted to find a community like Sacré Cœur to get involved with closer to home. My guiding goal of the Sacred Heart is social awareness that impels to action and I live that every day. My Year 12 Annual quote was Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re probably right. Self-belief is everything and the sooner you get on board with backing yourself the better. Our vale assembly song was Closing Time and the line go out to the places where you’ll be from made me sad at the time, Sacré Cœur was only the beginning but it got me so ready for all that was to come! #sacconnect #sacrecoeuralumnae

What is unique about your business? We aren’t just lawyers, we’re navigators. There are legal obstacles in life that we each must plan for and navigate, such as the death of a relative, dealing with property, our own aging, complex business and personal relationships to name a few. An obstacle by definition is not a problem per se, it is something that obstructs or hinders progress. We work with our clients to move through the legal obstacles that everyone encounters at various stages of life from nesting, and investing to retirement and beyond. We have a firm wide desire to ensure that all clients leave having had a pleasant and helpful experience. If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be? Trust your gut, make it happen. Take a chance. If you could do it again, what would you do differently? Stress less about the things that were really out of my control. What were the most important factors that contributed to your business success? Supportive mentors (thanks Kay Jackson Simplex Insurance Solutions & Commerce Ballarat!). Sound accounting advice (thanks Ewen Fletcher Sharp Accounting!) Knowledgeable, supportive and reliable staff. What’s something very few people know about you?
