24.01.2022 YSSC Blue Tongues would like to congratulate our sporting partner Yarrabilba Touch Association on their first ever QLD Touch Football State Cup campaign. After getting their affiliation with QLD Touch Football only recently, Yarrabilba Touch entered 3 teams into State Cup (Open mens, open mixed and mixed 30s). Club president Cam Perry has been a consistent presence in our college this year, refereeing our teacher vs student game and our primary school touch gala day, as well... as working with our year 7 classes this term as part of the sporting schools program. The success of Yarrabilba Touch is a great thing for the suburb of Yarrabilba as well as for our college. Our students play in the Friday night competition, and hopefully we can see some Blue Tongues representing at state cup in the future. https://qldstatecup.qldtouch.com.au/yarrabilba-attends-qld/

01.01.2022 Our lovely Lemon Myrtle trees are flowering! These versatile small trees are perfect for planting around the house. Their root systems are not invasive, they don't drop leaves and they attract lots of lovely pollinators. The leaves have been used by Aboriginal people for thousands of years both in medicines and cooking. You can use the leaves as you would bay leaves in savoury dishes, as you would use lemon slices in cold drinks (bruise the leaves first to release the flavou...r) or steeped in hot water for hot or iced tea. Mrs Brown has already had the Food Technology students baking Lemon Myrtle Cupcakes and she generously donated this Lemon Myrtle to keep near the kitchens on site. As always, do your own research and confirm identification before eating any unfamiliar plant. #sustainableschool #keepitgreen
