23.01.2022 HOOF TRIMMING - Sheep/Alpacas: One of the things that we often hear during our Hoof Trimming Rounds is .. The Breeder/Shearer said that they only need trimming once per year during Shearing season. Sound familiar? What they don’t tell you is that this often suits the Breeder/Shearer’s agenda. Not the individual animals needs. The reason ... Breeders & Shearer’s often deal with large numbers of sheep & Alpacas hence it becomes financially & time challenging to treat each in...dividual animals needs. That’s where we come in ... we treat individual animals individual needs!! BECAUSE .. these animals are now YOUR PETS!! They are your FUR-BABIES!! They are no longer in a large herd. They are no longer one in a million. They are now Dora .. or Pacca .. or Milo. They can NOW be treated as an individual. They can now have their individual needs cared for. This guy .. Shank .. was trimmed during shearing late December. Notice that on the surface his hooves just look ghastly long. But unfortunately it’s more complicated than that. As you see in the photos .. once we trimmed back the layers he had quite horrid hoof infection. He’s lucky to have loving & caring owners who want Shank to feel more comfortable, infection & pain free. We trimmed & treated his hooves & now allow them time to recover. NOTE: Re-Treatment is required until infection is non-existent.

22.01.2022 FARM STAY is always fun for our favourite Vets BFF. She asked both of our dogs to play .. but they preferred to sleep. So the house cat had to do.

21.01.2022 HOME CARE: This beautiful girl had a visit from her wonderful farrier whilst her owner went to work. She’s only 2yo so needed some support whilst getting her Pedicure. She was such a good girl.

21.01.2022 KAHLUA had his teeth done yesterday & Vet Check. Unfortunately he has a lot of problems in his back teeth & will need an extraction done in a few weeks. He also has to have a special mouth wash for a few days too. Dentist confirmed that he is approximately 20yo & said other than his teeth .. he is in great health.

19.01.2022 HOOF TRIMMING for goats especially during winter is important to help maintain hoof health. This girl has grossly over grown hooves which have created the perfect incubator for Hoof Infections & Scold. Hoof Infection has a very potent rotting smell but often goes undetected for many months. Scold is the secondary infection, and is incredibly painful to it’s host. It can show unexpectedly over night. One minute our furry friend seems fine .. the next they are limping like they have a broken leg. You can see in these photos how much damage to the hoof that the rot has caused. It will take many months of regular treatment for this to heal. All of this can be avoided by keeping a regular routine of Trims every 10-12wks.

17.01.2022 G R I E F Hurts Gone Empty ... Grounding Pain Reminisce Guilt Loss Part of my job is to care for other peoples beloved fur-babies. To feed them ... know what the fur-babies needs are and fulfil them ... report back to their owners any concerns that i may see ... make sure that they are safe ... make sure that they have plenty of water & shelter ... check for any injuries or signs of illness .... make sure that they receive their required supplements and medications ................... but ultimately and above all > LOVE. I love them whilst their owners are away. And I love them when their owners return. Because you can't just switch-off loving something. You cant just switch off caring if something goes wrong regardless of whether they are in your care or not. So when one of those Fur-Babies becomes injured, unwell, or the news comes that they have or are crossing-the-bridge .... its devastating to me. Absolutely beyond words totally heartbreaking. So to all of the owners of Fur-Babies that have touch my heart and are currently going through mortal-crisis ..... or have already crossed the bridge ..... my heart and utmost heartfelt thoughts are with you today.

15.01.2022 Yesterday was a shitty day for our Pinnacle Pets Farm. Full of crappy animal-life challenges. I’m greatful that the day is over. But I wanted to share this moment of pure animal mourning. Our elderly Silky Hen of nearly 6yo passed in the summer heat. Here you see her two young mates sitting w her. And they say animals don’t have feelings. That chickens don’t have a brain. Well ... take a good look at this moment & tell me that these ladies do not miss their great grandmother.

14.01.2022 HOOF TRIMMING: Happy snaps from our most recent Trimming Run Teaching you to care for your fur-babies most precious assets

14.01.2022 HOOF TRIMMING .. VACCINATIONS .. INTERNAL & EXTERNAL PARASITE CONTROL ....... These beauties all had their pedicures & Health Care Checks last week. Hoof infections & external parasites/lice/mites seem to be rampid this year. Most likely due to our excessive rainfall. One of our visits involved assisting a very unwell goat with a possible tummy ache. We suspected strong winds may have toxic vegetation litter into his pen. If you think that we can assist .. please give us a call: 0407 220 966 or send us message.

14.01.2022 BILLY: What a brave little man he is becoming. Unfortunately Billy spent the first 8-10yrs of his life being chased around a large paddock by quad bikes. Apparently these humans thought that this was the best way for Billy to get exercise. Unfortunately it just made him incredibly fearful and gave him long term lameness in one leg from a tendon injury. He was then rescued by a very gentle & generous sole whom gave Billy a loving home for 5-6yrs. Unfortunately Billy’s dist...rust of humans meant that he needed to be sedated in order to have his hooves trimmed, vet checks, teeth & so forth. But his rescuer kept him in excellent health & of course he was loved & safe. A few months ago he was re-homed to a non-horsey family. He was loved .. they were kind .. but his basic needs such as founder control were not being met. He was surrendered to us after 6mths. His initial Vet Check here at the Pinnacle Pets Farm revealed that he is sight-impaired. His left eye is severely vision compromised. His right eye only allows approx 50% sight. He has bowed legs which have caused issues w his hoof-formations. His tendon injury also causes him pain & swelling. Then his teeth ... he has a severe under bite which means chewing is difficult. It also means that he needs 6mthly dental work due to his uneven chewing. Billy has relaxed soooooo much since arriving & his progress has been massive: When Billy arrived he was uncatchable ~ Now he walks twd us in response our kiss-calls He knows our voices and although will initially turn away .... he doesn’t hoon off like he used to. He simply turns away .. then turns back & walks directly up to us He also will stand fairly relaxed whilst we pat him. No more quivering. You may notice that he is halter free too. The next steps are to brush & pick out Billy’s hooves. We’ll introduce this slowly allowing him time to process & accept each step. Billy just needs time & minimalism.

13.01.2022 LAMBING SEASON is here and of course our wooly mummas always choose the windiest, wettest, coldest nights to deliver their babies. This mumma unexpectedly became unwell a week following birth. During our coldest & wettest day of the year. She’s a fighter .. that’s for sure .. and her humans are giving her the best possible chance to recover. But Mother Nature May have other plans.

11.01.2022 HOOF TRIMMING for Ponies is incredibly important. Especially Laminitic prone ponies. This is Chester & Chester is well over due for his Pedicure. (Covid has affected us all .. ). You can see in the photos how packed his hooves are with mud & faeces. You can also see the damage that this has caused his hoof health. The rot has almost completely eaten away his frog ... and his hooves rely on his frog to pump blood around his hoof to keep his hooves healthy. A simple way to help Chester is daily hoof-picking. We cleaned Chesters hooves & gave him a good trim. Unfortunately we couldn’t bring his hooves back to the correct level due to his long-term hoof neglect. But over time we can take more height off his hooves which will help him become more comfortable .. as well as allow his frog to heal & eventually start doing its job again.
