19.01.2022 Exciting and scary, the energy revolution gathers steam and the tipping point approaches; falling costs and urgent need... "Production costs for solar panels and wind turbines have plunged, by 90% in the past decade for solar, for example, and are continuing to fall. As a result, in many parts of the world they are already the cheapest electricity available and installation is soaring: two-thirds of all new power in 2016 was renewable."

19.01.2022 LAST CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST! If youve been thinking about making an expression of interest for partnering with Yarra Glens community renewable energy project Yarra Glenergy today is the last day. No upfront costs and a simple "behind the meter" arrangement that has many precedents in similar projects. And if youve got some concerns or uncertainty in your circumstances feel free to submit an expression of interest anyway, this is only a first step and we can work through the issues in the assessment phase. Feel free to ring if youve got any questions.

18.01.2022 Some insight into Californias clean energy industry. It makes great business sense, solar accounts for the largest share of power generation workers in the US.

17.01.2022 Come for the tea and cake, stay for the committee.

16.01.2022 A night out and an exciting collaboration with our counterparts in Healesville. This is a film about solutions to the climate and energy crisis, not fear, and concludes with a very relevant call to arms, Use your voice, Convince your town/city/school to convert to 100-percent renewable energy. Because your works depends on it.

15.01.2022 Yarra Glenergy is celebrating its first anniversary, and planning the exciting next steps that this local, community-owned enterprise will now take. So, what has been achieved? The business case has been established and a model developed that gives multi-tiered value for the community:... economic environmental social cultural This is a model that is elegant in its simplicity but will have an enduring legacy. Money is easy to spend, but much more difficult to conserve and weve been very conscious to make sure that the money is not wasted or frittered away. Yarra Glenergy is confident that the care, consideration and detailed background work that has been completed so far, will ensure the community gets maximum impact, not just a one-off purchase of some solar panels, but an investment that can return value and see benefits throughout the community. Its completely understandable that our community want to know more and are impatient for outcomes, but rest assured that our group of focussed local volunteers are taking a great deal of care to get a fantastic outcome. Can you get involved? Absolutely, everyone is welcome. Dont worry if you dont think you have relevant skills, it takes a whole village to run a community venture like this, and a little help from a lot of people can make for a powerful project. Being a member is not an obligation to attend meetings or join a committee. To become a supporter costs $5 and entitles you to receive updates/progress reports via email, receive notification of the Annual General Meeting, receive notification of upcoming events, and (optional) attendance at the Annual General Meeting. Full membership costs $10 and entitles you to voting rights and the right to nominate for positions on the Incorporated Association Committees, receive minutes and agendas for meetings, receive updates/progress reports via email, receive notification of upcoming events, and (optional) attendance at Committee/Sub-Committee meetings and Annual General Meeting. The Annual General Meeting is on this Wednesday (tomorrow), 6:30PM at Hargreaves Hill. Yarra Glenergy meets every 2-4 weeks, just get in touch to find out the details [email protected] - chat soon!

07.01.2022 Heres answers to some good questions that have been asked regarding the current call for expressions of interest for solar power in the Yarra Glen area: How does it work? This will be a "behind the meter" system. Yarra Glenergy will install solar panels at a site and the power will be used at that site. It wont go onto the grid but will be bought from Yarra Glenergy by the business at the site "behind the meter". A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) will be entered into between... the business at the site and Yarra Glenergy to agree price and the terms. At the end of the period of the PPA (probably 10 years) the ownership of the solar system will be transferred to the business at the site with no further cost, and this will be well within the working lifespan of the system installed. It would be expected that the price for the electricity bought from Yarra Glenergy would be below the current market rate. What are the costs? Only the cost of the power you buy. There is no setup costs. You will need to provide some detailed analysis of your power use to make an assessment of its viability and design the system, but this information is easily available. Can you install your own system in parallel to the Yarra Glenergy system? You could, it would need to be metered separately but could be possible. However, assuming the system that Yarra Glenergy installs meets your current minimum daytime power usage you would need an increase in power usage to make it financially viable as surplus electricity generated goes back onto the grid and you dont get much money for that.

05.01.2022 Yarra Glens Community Energy project is the legacy of these womens hard work and vision. During the late 1940s and 50s they raised funds with cake stalls, catering jobs and progressive dinners to finance the land and building for the Yarra Glen Maternal and Child Health Centre which opened in 1954. In 2012 it closed, and some money from the sale has been used to fund Yarra Glenergy - renewable energy projects that will be owned by the community and be able to return value... back to the community. Its very exciting that their dedication to a project lives on 70 years later! Thanks to Tess Birchall for providing this fabulous photo. 02.01.2022 Congratulations to Yarra Glen Preschool

01.01.2022 Super little scheme, and if you would like to know more the time to act is now - the recruitment period for solar on Pensioner homes in Yarra Ranges finishes on Friday July 13th. Call Solar Savers on 03 9385 8512.

01.01.2022 Tonight on Four Corners. And seems prescient with YGlenergys expression of interest currently open, an opportunity for local businesses to make meaningful change to their energy supply that might otherwise feel overwhelmed at the thought of more workload and change.

01.01.2022 Interesting article regarding battery storage for solar power - more Australians are seeing the benefits in generating and storing their own power!

01.01.2022 And add to this impressive project some pretty big solar arrays going on a couple of Yarra Glens own wineries.
