25.01.2022 Ross Rynehart and Gayle Jennings from Mt Beauty spent the weekend in Gippsland . Exploring the coast from Mallacoota to Wilsons Promontory by air in their beautifully built Kitfox 7. They were shown the local area by club members doing some beach landings along the way. Great aeroplanes, weather, scenery and company.



25.01.2022 Great flyin at the Omega airfield near Woodside today. 25 odd aircraft and their owners from around Gippsland were treated to a great venue, food , company and music. Many thanks to the Eppelstuns.

25.01.2022 The adventurous Tasmanians returned to Yarram today on their way home. John and Lee Spilsbury called in today after flying their motor glider to Burketown and back. The aircraft topped up with fuel before the Bass Strait crossing. They had 6 successful flights soaring along the Morning Glory , a cloud formation that forms in the Gulf this time of year and creates considerable lift over a long distance. What an adventure.

24.01.2022 Rick Taylor travelled down from Tyabb today in his newly completed Just Highlander. Having just completed flying off the test hours, Rick is really enjoying this beautiful aircraft.



23.01.2022 Another great aircraft at Yarram today. A Beechcraft 200 Kingair out of Essendon and owned by Interair. Brought a group of people to the area to spend the afternoon.

23.01.2022 Once again, its all go at Yarram Aerodrome. Jimmy Barnes and crew flew in this evening in a Pilatus PC-12 to perform at the Regent Theatre Yarram. Jimmy pictured here with daughter Mahalia.

22.01.2022 Club member Steve has just arrived back at Yarram with his new love. A beautiful Eurofox with all the bells and whistles. An absolutely immaculate aircraft and ready to tour the country. Its parked in the hangar with another Eurofox and with any luck they may breed.

22.01.2022 Since the commissioning of the new fuel facility at Yarram there has not been a lot of activity due to smoke from East Gippsland. But from today all systems go for Frank Willebrand from Flinders Island Air Charters with 2 return trips to Flinders Is. Loving the new fuel setup.



22.01.2022 Another one from the past. A great photo from the air show at Yarram in 1994. DC3 VH-AES. Built in 1941 for the USAAF by Douglas Aircraft Co. in Santa Monica. After finishing its military career was then operated by TAA. In 1979 it was put on display at Melbourne Airport and in 1987 removed and returned to flying condition. The aircraft has flown over 51000 hours and still going. This photo was taken on the grass area in about the spot where the primary wind indicator is now situated. Don Christison and Bob Edmonds are taking care of the refueling on the day.

21.01.2022 YAC members Brian Lucas Geoff Boyd Alan Jarvis and Jim Christison on an adventure to Lake Eyre and beyond. Headed via Echuca, Mungo, Broken Hill , Leigh creek, Lake Eyre William creek and now returning via Mildura. Many laughs and good times and now staying in high class accommodation on the good ship Hammet on the Murray River.

21.01.2022 Great to see Wellington Shire getting into some well needed maintenance at Yarram Aerodrome today. With some added gravel and re profile of the main runway, everything should be ok for the coming winter. The aerodrome will be closed for the week to allow works to be completed.

20.01.2022 Another interesting and fun aircraft at Yarram today. A Tecnam P92 TD. owned by Gordon Rorison from Coongulla near Glenmaggie. One of only 3 in Australia. Gordon enjoyed the improvements to the runway and will be back soon.

19.01.2022 Yarram Aero Club trip away to Mt Beauty. The gathering of the moths flyin. 4 aircraft from Yarram travelled up Saturday morning in under 2 hours.

19.01.2022 Chris and Ariana from Tiger Tours from Rosedale, will be operating from Yarram Aerodrome during Easter. The aircraft they operate are a Stampe sv4b and a DH 82A Tiger Moth. TheTiger was built in 1942 and originally a training aircraft with RAAF. Come on out to Yarram Aerodrome for a flight of a lifetime Saturday and Sunday. Give Chris a ring 0402937747.

17.01.2022 A couple of happy flyers at Yarram this morning. Barry and Angela Seaton from Melbourne spending a few days in the area flying their trike checking out Cornet Inlet and Wilsons Promontory. What a day for it.

17.01.2022 About to head off across Bass Strait in their beautiful Cessna 180A is John and Linda Walmsley from Coominya Qld. After fueling and a coffee they headed for Tasmania.

16.01.2022 Club member Jim Christison, got long time local Les Webb into the air for a flight around the area. Les has just had his 90 th birthday and was one of the foundation members of the Latrobe Valley Aero Club where he flew Avro Cadets and Tiger Moths.

15.01.2022 Finally some news out of Yarram. Work has started this morning on the new fuel installation. Should be up and running with avgas to start with, in the next month. It will be the standard 24 hour visa card facility.

14.01.2022 A visit this morning at Yarram from Jack Peters . Jack was passing through on his way to deliver his just sold Searay amphibian to Grafton. Jack has been through Yarram many times over the years in his much loved Searay that he build himself. He is retiring from flying after 30000 hrs....not a bad effort.

14.01.2022 Some interesting visitors toYarram Aerodrome today. A Cessna Caravan owned and flown by no other than Dick Smith. He arrived with wife Pip and friends for a boating trip around Bass Strait.

14.01.2022 David wheatland brief bio David is a commercial Pilot with 40 years of experience as an ag pilot, flight instructor and test pilot. Before gaining his commercial licence he flew as a private pilot from the age of 17 years old in his fathers Jodel D11 VH-RDW and as an Air Training Corps Cadet in the early 1970s Now approaching his mid 60s he has flown in 27 countries, and in over 100 different types of aircraft.... Traditional wisdom states that a good pilot is one with an equal number of take offs and landings, he acknowledges that while he wishes he was a good pilot he admits he is lucky one. David was born in Mildura near the old WW2 air force base turned Mildura Airport, and moved down to the Latrobe valley in 1960. Davids dad Rupert learned to fly at Mildura with the RVAC in the 1950s on a flying scholarship, and David won a Cadet Scholarship in 1973 at LVAC where John Willis OAM was his first instructor. Having now flown completely around Australia and criss-crossed all of the interior deserts, the Barkley tablelands and the channel country, he has flown from top to bottom of the Americas, in Africa, Asia and the subcontinent, the UK and continental Europe. Sights such as the Grand canyon, Krakatoa, the Amazon basin, the Orinoco river, the Andes and the Altiplano, the frozen tundra of Canada and the ice fields of Alaska have passed under the wings of the Airvans he has flown in these amazing places.

13.01.2022 Two members from YAC , Brian Lucas in his Eurofox and Jim Christison in his Wittman Tailwind headed to a new airstrip near Inverloch for a flyin run by the owner Mick Moloney, his wife Chris and the local aero model club. What a great spot.

13.01.2022 Peter Johnson from Leongatha with his Pietenpol Air Camper. His first trip away from Leongatha after finishing the build. The aircraft is a 1929 design and originally designed for a Ford model A engine of 35 hp. This aircraft has a Continental 65 hp.

13.01.2022 Another interesting visitor to Yarram YYRM this evening. A Coulson fire fighting Sikorsky S61 and 3 crew trying to get to Tasmania. Spent a large part of the day stuck in the middle of Bass Strait on Hogan Is. Very bad weather and was able to just sneak back to Yarram.

12.01.2022 de Havilland DH 50 aircraft at Yarram. Date unknown but in the 1930's. The photos were believed to be taken at the Plane Paddock, belonging to the Moore family.The area is about the site of the saw mill along Church Road Yarram.The owner of the aircraft is not known but probably owned by Larkin Aircraft Co from Coode Island Melbourne

12.01.2022 This nearly says it all. The aircraft a CAC Wackett VH-BCP owned by Cliff Wynne was killed with his friend Herb Nicol, May 1959 at the aerodrome.Herb Nicol owned the property ' Parkside' that the Yarram Aerodrome is now located. The memorial is at the main entrance to the aerodrome.

12.01.2022 Well its on. An inspiring group of Club members met today to start planning a flyin at Yarram Aerodrome March 24 and 25 2018. This is to commemorate 100 years of the first military aviation action in Australia. Capt Frank McNamara VC. piloted a FE2B aircraft from Yarram into Bass Strait looking for the German raider Wolf that was laying mines in the area. What makes this event more significant is that Capt McNamara was the only VC recipient in the Australian Flying Corp during WW1 Now the planning is under way. More info to come as things progress.

12.01.2022 Yarram Aerodrome is back in tip top shape with the addition of nearly 1500 mt of new gravel thanks to Wellington Shire and their operators. A bit of rain during the earth works created a bit of a hiccup but everything has settled and now better than ever.

11.01.2022 Reece Wade got his new toy back to Yarram this evening. A big ferry flight by the previous owner from Townsville over 3 days. A Zlin Savage Cub. A scaled down Piper Cub. Reece and Jim arrived back from Lilydale not long before last light on the final leg of the trip.

11.01.2022 Probably the first Lake Buchaneer to land at Yarram. Ben and Vicki Hutchinson from Caloundra Qld. stopping overnight at Yarram on their way to Hobart. An amphibious aircraft with a floating hull, the couple have toured extensively with this capable aircraft/ boat.

10.01.2022 An exciting visitor to Yarram today. A Percival Proctor Mk 1 owned by Paul and Liz Gliddon. Today was the first off field landing since a full 7 year restoration at Latrobe Valley Airport by Brian and Damo Turner. The Mk1is the only one in the world in this condition that is flying. What a machine . The owners plan to travel around Australia in it and then maybe fly it back to England.

10.01.2022 A new hangar at last for Yarram. The concrete pour this morning for Brian Lucas and David Packham accomplished by South Gippsland Concreting and Phil Corn.

09.01.2022 A new aircraft for Yarram. Brian and Deb Lucas took delivery of their Eurofox last week. The near new aircraft was ferried across the continent from Western Australia. Brian is looking foreward to finishing his training with PAJ Aviation in this aircraft so he and Deb can go touring.

08.01.2022 Yarram Aero Club had a very productive meeting with Paul Bennet and Glen Graham from Paul Bennet Air Shows today. Things are heating up for the air show to be held at Yarram next year on March 17. Paul and Glen flew in from their home base north of Sydney this morning to discuss some finer points of the show. Next year will be 100 years since the first operational military flight in Australia. These flights were conducted from Yarram in a FE2B aircraft out into Bass Strait looking for the German raiding ship the Wolf. This operation was flown by Capt Frank McNamara VC. from the Australian Flying Corp. Yarram Aero Club want to honour the centenary of the event by holding an air show for the local community.

This morning the unit was commissioned and filled. This facility adds greatly to the local community and the infrastructure at Yarram Aerodrome.

07.01.2022 Another interesting aircraft at Yarram today. Peter Henry from Latrobe Valley in his newly completed Waiex. It is a kit build with an 80hp VW engine. It has taken Peter 5 years to build and he is now flying off the test hours. The aircraft has now done 26 hours.

06.01.2022 Bandicoot Adventure Flights had a busy weekend showing enthusiastic pasengers around the Yarram district. Local Ian Nicol is seen here about to be taken around the local area by pilot David Knowles. The aircraft is a De Havilland DH 82 Tiger Moth.

06.01.2022 Two very keen aviators from Tasmania on a big adventure. John and Lee Spilsbury from near Ross in Tassy on their way to Burketown in the Gulf of Carpentaria to fly the morning glory in their motor glider. They endured up to 50 knot head winds in Bass Strait today slowing their progress so had an enforced stay at Yarram for the night. The aircraft is a Scheibe MotorFalke.

04.01.2022 All aviators and local enthusiasts are invited to a Flyin at Rob and Therese Eppelstun's Omega airfield tomorrow, 23/4/16. 900 metre east/west strip is in great condition and freshly mown.BBQ snags etc.

04.01.2022 Members from the Yarram aero club ventured to Bunerong airfield just west of Inverloch today to enjoy a fly in. 30 plus aircraft attended from southern Victoria. Very pleasant day had by all.

Warren Wilson is seen here giving his old aircraft a last pat before Tom Scott , who is ferrying the aircraft for the new owner, heads north. Lets hope the new owner has as much fun with it as Warren has had in the past years.
